---- Clara had just forwarded a trending gossip article about Scarlett and Cyrus. The piece was dripping with drama-romantic timeline, photos, video clips-the whole package. Even in the pictures, Cyrus's eyes were glued to Scarlett like she hung the moon. Derek's brows pulled together, but he forced a casual tone. "So what? It's just some fluff piece. Doesn't mean anything." Aaron shot him a side glance. "You sure? From where I stood last night, Cyrus didn't let her out of his sight. Guy was smooth, attentive, practically glowing.
Better looking than you, too-and probably richer." Derek grabbed the phone, forwarded the article to himself, and muttered under his breath, "Nagging like this, you sound just like my mom... As he retreated to his own office, Aaron called after him with a smirk, "You forgot your file." ---- Derek turned around without a word, snatched the folder like it was on fire, and disappeared. The second he sat down, he pulled up the article. And the more he read, the more annoyed he got. The write-up was pure gold-like someone had taken a romance movie script and turned it into a gossip column.
It painted Scarlett and Cyrus as star-crossed lovers who'd waited ten years to finally shine together. The photos weren't helping. In every shot, Cyrus looked at Scarlett like she was the only person in the room. The comment section? Even worse. @InMyFeelings: "If these two don't end up married, I'm boycotting love altogether!" @CyrusStan: "Those eyes. That smile. That chemistry! Don't tell me it's fake-I won't believe it." ---- @DramaQueen: "They were clearly in love this whole time. It's been real since day one." @EventInsider: "I was at the gala-they didn't leave each other's side.

It's 100% real!" @HopelessRomantic: "Please just make it official. I'm begging you." @VisualEvidence: "This looks like a wedding announcement, not a performance!" @OldHollywoodVibes: "Ten years together, both at the top of their game. If they're not meant to be, who is?" Derek was fuming. He immediately pulled up Scarlett's WhatsApp and sent a flood of screenshots. Scarlett: Jealous already? Derek: I'm a man. Of course I'm jealous! Scarlett: You knew I was in entertainment when you met me. Derek: Doesn't mean I have to like this crap. ---- Scarlett: I didn't write the article.
Can't control what people say. Derek: Where are you? I want to talk face-to-face. Scarlett: Not in Greystone. I went home. She locked her phone and rolled her eyes. Let him stew. If he really cared, he'd step up. At this point, she wasn't playing games anymore. She wanted marriage. She'd spent nearly a decade climbing the industry ladder, been through enough highs and lows to write a memoir, and honestly? She was tired. She wanted peace. She wanted a home. That morning, her mom had called saying her dad had fainted. Of course, she dropped everything and flew back.
The thing is, every time Scarlett went back home, her mom couldn't help but nag. Scarlett pinched her forehead, already feeling a headache just thinking about it. ---- By the time she got to the house, it was dinner time. The streets were packed with people. Her assistant helped her get fully covered-sunglasses, mask, and a hat, making sure she was hidden from sight. "Scarlett, I am staying at the hotel next door tonight. Just holler if you need anything!" her assistant said.
"Oh, and we've got a shoot the day after tomorrow, so we need to be back by two in the afternoon at the latest that day." Scarlett slung her backpack over her shoulder. "Got it. Thanks for all the trouble. You should explore the area a bit. Treat yourself-dinner's on me. I'll let you know if I need anything." The assistant's smile brightened. "Thanks, Scarlett!" Scarlett got out of the car, pulled her cap low over her eyes, and headed straight inside. She made it home without any trouble.
But the moment she stepped into the house and ---- saw her dad drinking wine at the dinner table like nothing had happened, she nearly exploded. "You've gotta be kidding me," she said, tearing off her mask. "Didn't you say it was serious? That Dad passed out? What part of him is sick, exactly?!" Her dad looked momentarily sheepish. "My heart. It hurt from missing you too much." Her mom just waved a hand. "If we hadn't lied, would you have come home at all?" Scarlett slumped onto the couch and groaned. "Fine, fine. You win. Now feed me. I'm starving."
