---- Chapter 63: You're Making Bank! Winter in Greystone was an absolute delight-temperatures hovered comfortably in the 60s, the breeze was gentle, and the city was awash in springtime colors. It felt more like March than the end of the year. People often said that once you came to Greystone, you'd never want to leave. Warm, clean, peaceful, and full of charm. Clara definitely agreed. There was a line that had gone viral online: There's a kind of romance called standing on the Greystone Overpass.
Looking down from that overpass, it was easy to be stunned by the azaleas blooming like red satin ribbons stretching along the roadside. It was even more beautiful than the pictures. With year-end approaching, everyone was ---- scrambling. Clara, too, was swamped with year-end summaries, performance reviews, and back-to-back meetings. But today, thank goodness, no overtime. Clara glanced at her computer and pressed the call button-just one last patient to go. A young mom entered with a little girl in tow. The girl was super cute, dressed in a sparkly Elsa princess gown.

"Hi, Doctor!" Clara smiled. "What's up with our little princess today?" The mom explained, "She's been coughing for three days." "Is she coughing a lot?" Clara asked. "Mostly in the morning and at night. Hardly coughs during the day." Clara listened carefully with her stethoscope, then said, "Sweetie, open your mouth and say 'Ahh' so I can check your throat, okay?" ---- The little girl was sweet and well-behaved, making the exam easy. Afterward, Clara prescribed her medicine and gently reminded, "I've written up two sessions of phlegm-clearing treatment.
After paying, drop your slip off at the therapy room queue. And make sure she drinks plenty of water!" The little girl whispered shyly, "Thank you, Doctor!" Clara grinned. "Such a polite little princess! Here-you've earned a fairy wand lollipop. But you've got to wait until you're all better before you eat it, deal?" She fished a lollipop from her coat pocket. She always kept candy on hand-it helped with the fussy ones. The mom thanked her and left. Clara started cleaning up her desk when she suddenly felt someone's eyes on her. She looked up-and there he was.
Outside the glass window stood Aaron, who had been ---- missing in action for days. Bathed in golden light, dressed head to toe ina sleek black suit, he stood tall and elegant, like something out of a magazine. The contrast between him and the cartoon-covered pediatric walls made him look like a visitor from another world. Clara blinked, thinking it might be a trick of the light. Then he smiled and waved. Her heart skipped. "What are you doing here?" Aaron walked in coolly. "Came to pick up my wife from work." Clara beamed.
"Hold on-I'll be quick." She packed up at lightning speed, sanitized her hands, and shrugged off her white coat. Aaron stepped forward and helped her into her wool jacket like a gentleman. By now, her coworkers had gathered around the door, heads popping out from every direction. One nurse spoke up first. "Hey Aaron! Thanks ---- for all the afternoon teas you treat us to!" Aaron flashed a modest smile. "No problem at all. Thank you for taking such good care of my wife." A wave of teasing broke out among the staff. It was peak end-of-day gossip hour, and more and more people were showing up.
Embarrassed, Clara grabbed Aaron's hand and bolted. "We're heading out! See you tomorrow!" Steven's office was right next door. He leaned against his doorframe, quietly watching the pair walk away. The guy was tall, polished, and ridiculously handsome in his tailored suit. Clara, wrapped in a long gray coat, looked petite and delicate beside him. Even with heels, she barely reached his shoulder. She was smiling and chatting, holding his arm like she belonged there. And honestly? She did. Steven's chest tightened. His eyes burned, his
