---- Chapter 49: Say It Again-Whose Wife Are You? After work, Aaron invited Clara to go with him to Silverton the next day-but, surprise surprise, she flat-out said no. Aaron tried to sweet-talk her, "I gotta stay there overnight tomorrow. You sure you don't wanna come? Won't you miss me all alone in the empty house?" Clara shot back without hesitation, "Nope! Don't want to! You stay as long as you like. It's been forever since you've seen your friends-don't you wanna catch up?" Ha! As if!
Not only did she not miss him, Clara was practically ready to break into song and dance just to celebrate having one peaceful night to herself. ---- Man, life was wearing her down. Why was getting a decent night's sleep so impossible? Aaron was constantly all over her, and Clara had hit her limit. She was barely holding it together. Honestly? She might not even last three months before breaking down-without Aaron even having to push her. Aaron glared at her, feeling frustrated. Just the thought of not being able to hold her that night made his chest tighten.
Meanwhile, she was grinning like she'd won the lottery! His gaze darkened. He leaned in and pressed his lips to hers. Wrapped in that familiar taste, Clara felt comforted... but also strangely fluttery inside. Habits were a powerful thing. After so much time together, she'd let her guard down, closed her eyes, and melted into the pleasure Aaron was giving her. Her hands climbed up his neck, pulling him closer without even realizing it. ---- Through their thin pajamas, Aaron felt the soft brush of her chest against him. His body reacted instinctively, the urge growing stronger.

But seeing her so relaxed and trusting softened him. She trusted him now. How could he break that? Aaron held himself back and told himself to be patient. Sooner or later, she'd be his in every way. No need to rush. Slow and steady wins the race. When Aaron mentioned he was heading out, Clara wasn't the only one excited-Leo was buzzing too. Leo was eating breakfast and said, "Mom, I wanna sleep in your room tonight. We haven't done that in forever!" Since Dad moved upstairs, Mom's door was always locked. Mornings were off limits, and he'd missed being close to Mom. ---- "Sure!" Clara smiled.
Aaron jumped in, "No way. You're four and a half now." Leo protested, "But Elsie sometimes sleeps with Mom!" Aaron said, "Elsie's a girl. Are you?" Leo cocked his head. "Didn't you sleep in your mom's bed when you were little?" Aaron said firmly, "No! Not once." Leo's eyes went wide. "That's so sad! Mom's so soft and smells so good-you never got a chance to share bed with her?" Clara looked up, surprised. He'd never talked about his family before. Aaron said, "Not sad! My wife's soft and smells good too." Clara blushed... again. After dropping off Leo, Aaron drove Clara to work.
---- The morning traffic crawled. Aaron held the steering wheel with one hand and gently toyed with her soft fingers with the other. Clara chatted about this and that, no real topic-just passing time. Aaron wasn't talkative but loved these quiet, intimate moments. It felt like a cozy old-married-couple vibe-warm and peaceful. Clara asked, "So, are we heading straight to the airport later?" Aaron said, "Nope. Got a meeting in the morning. I'll head over in the afternoon." Clara asked, "Is Matt going with you?" Aaron replied, "No.
I'm just meeting Tristan to talk." He didn't want to dive into family drama, and there wasn't much to say anyway. Probably no reason for them to cross paths again. Clara asked, "Is my house listed with him? Can ---- you check for me?" "Yeah! Did you like the flowers yesterday?" Aaron asked. He'd picked up a new hobby-figuring out what little gifts to send her office every day. Sometimes flowers, sometimes snacks, sometimes candy... he never got bored. Thinking about the blue roses from yesterday, Clara frowned. "I liked them, but stop sending! I'm turning into the office landmark!
The guys say I'm stirring up trouble for their families and told me to cut it out." Aaron chuckled, "Isn't spoiling your wife what husbands are supposed to do?" Clara said, "Alright, alright! No more. Let's keep it low-key. We can't become the office villains." Ata red light, she leaned over fast and planted a quick kiss on his cheek. Aaron kept a straight face, but inside he was grinning like crazy. Next time, he'd send
