---- Chapter 137: Derek Just Didn't Deserve an Easy Life Mr. Thompson said to Aaron, "On behalf of the citizens, thank you so much!" Aaron replied with a grin, "Having such a good deputy mayor like you is truly a blessing for all of us!" Mr. Thompson chuckled. "Haha, I'm just doing my job. But Aaron, you know how it is. I'm only the deputy mayor. The new mayor just took office, and no one knows what kind of plans or policies he'll roll out.
As for the accident and the public buzz around it, make sure you keep things under control on your side." When the accident had first happened, it actually made the local news. But the reports had been objective and carefully managed, so it didn't cause too big of a stir. "I got it," Aaron replied. Mr. Thompson continued, "Get everything ---- ready. There'll be plenty of inspections from City Hall in the coming days." Aaron said confidently, "Of course. We'll cooperate fully and make sure you don't have any trouble." After hanging up, Aaron turned to Matt.
"Have Tristan's assistant come over to help for now. Let them handle the stuff we're not familiar with. And tell all senior staff there's a meeting in forty minutes." Lately, Clara had been having a hard time getting in touch with Aaron. Whenever she texted him during the day, he wouldn't reply until late at night. When she called Matt, he always said Aaron was busy or in a meeting. In the group chat, she was talking with Scarlett, who said Derek had been super busy too. Scarlett complained, "I'm starting to think he's trying to run away. Maybe he doesn't even want to marry me anymore!

He's been coming home after one in the morning every night." ---- Sierra teased, "What did you do to him this time?" Scarlett said defensively, "Excuse me? He's a grown man! What could I possibly do to him?" Sierra laughed. "Wasn't it you who kicked him out three times in one night to buy you midnight snacks?" Scarlett huffed. "I was hungry! What was I supposed to do?" Sierra continued, "And the person who made him massage your legs in the middle of the night, that wasn't you?" Scarlett sounded a little guilty. "My legs were cramping! What else could I do?" Sierra pressed on.
"And at three in the morning, when you made him sing to you, what was that about?" "That was... for prenatal bonding," Scarlett said, her voice noticeably weaker. Clara laughed so hard she nearly fell off her ---- chair. "If I were Derek, I'd check into a hotel! You're harder to serve than a queen!" Scarlett said indignantly, "What? The baby isn't just mine, you know. But wait, Sierra, how do you even know all this?" Sierra said, "Derek called Austin to complain. He was wailing so much I could feel his pain through the phone." Scarlett sighed, "Fine, fine! I'll behave.
But seriously, he's so petty! All I did was suggest using Cyrus as the baby's middle name, and he totally lost it." Clara couldn't stop laughing. "Of course he wasn't happy!" Sierra added, "Exactly!" Scarlett said, "But Cyrus is my baby's godfather. What's wrong with using his name as the middle name?" Sierra said, "Keep it up and watch your husband pack his bags. Don't come crying to us when he walks out."
