---- Chapter 185: Out of His Mind Tristan brushed past the two girls and claimed the passenger seat in Logan's car. Logan shot him a dirty look. "My girlfriend's here, dude. You're sitting in the back." Tristan shot hima glare right back. "Can you not? Are you two physically incapable of keeping your hands to yourselves for five seconds?" No way was he sitting back there. That Tara girl was a human limpet, and her cloying perfume was giving him a headache. Logan gritted his teeth. The heartbroken get a free pass. Fine. He'd let it slide. He fired up the engine and pulled out.

Two minutes later, Tristan was at it again. "Change the song. This is garbage." Logan: "What do you know? This is the hottest track on the charts right now, 'Love on Demand." Tristan, already annoyed, reached over and mashed the skip button himself. Okay, Logan had to admit, a song about instant love ---- probably wasn't the best choice for a guy who'd just been shot down. But not a minute later, Tristan skipped again. Logan was floored. "Seriously? This isn't doing it for you either?" Tristan: "Nope." A few seconds later, he skipped again.

He just kept going, back and forth, not letting a single song play for more than ten seconds. Logan didn't know how to handle this. "Tristan, why don't you just sing to yourself? I'm pretty sure there isn't a single song in the world that meets your standards right now." Tristan just hit the power button, killing the music entirely. After they grabbed a bite to eat, they arrived at the racetrack. A few of their buddies came over to greet them, and Logan bantered and joked with the group.

Meanwhile, Tristan casually snagged a set of keys, not even bothering to check what car they were for, and was already sliding into the driver's seat. Logan watched him, noting his completely deadened ---- expression. He hadn't cracked a smile or said more than two words since they'd left the office. After a moment's thought, he called out to Tara. "Hey, get in. Go keep Tristan company for a couple of laps." Tristan, one hand resting on the window frame and the other adjusting the mirrors, shut him down. "Tara, don't bother.

You don't need to ride with me." He'd been with Aaron for too many years, and some of his habits had rubbed off on him. When it came to women, he'd rather be alone than settle. Back in the day, opening one restaurant after another had given him a huge rush. Every success was a massive achievement. Once the Edenfield Group was founded, he'd been so swamped he barely had time to breathe. And by the time things were running smoothly, Aaron had shifted his focus back to the law firm, leaving Tristan to carry the weight of the entire corporation. He had zero energy for games.

He'd always found women to be more trouble than they were worth. And this just proved it. He tries to go after one woman, fails, and now he's so frustrated. Tara flinched at his sharp tone and didn't dare get in ---- the car. Logan thought fast, then opened the other door and hopped in. "Alright, I'll come along. Let me see what the great Mr. Black's driving is all about." Tristan gave him a sideways glance. "What? You think I'm going to drive us into a wall?" "Nah, of course not! This is purely a professional exchange!" Logan cackled. It wasn't that he thought Tristan was suicidal.

It was that he was afraid Tristan would do something reckless. You know how it is with first love and all that romantic nonsense. It makes people completely irrational. If Tristan drove them off a cliff in a fit of passion, Aaron would have him drawn and quartered. Logan shuddered at the thought. Logan had just clicked his seatbelt when Tristan slammed on the gas. The car rocketed forward. The force of the acceleration pinned Logan's head to the headrest. The world blurred, and for a second, he thought he might pass out. Before he could even get a word out, Tristan floored it again.

Cars on either side became a blur as they flew ---- past, the engine's low growl mirroring the dread churning in Logan's gut. He'd run this track a hundred times; he knew every inch of it. A sharp 120-degree turn was coming up fast, but Tristan didn't just fail to brake-he actually accelerated. "Dude, slow down! The turn!" Logan gripped the oh-shit handle, his palms sweating as adrenaline flooded his veins. His mind raced, but he couldn't get a grip on his panic. "Hey! I said slow down! Are you out of your mind?" It was like Tristan was in another world.

His hands were locked on the wheel, his eyes fixed dead ahead. The high-pitched screech of tires fighting for grip on the asphalt filled his ears. After what felt like an eternity, Logan pried his eyes open. They were through the turn. He wiped a sheen of cold sweat from his forehead. "Tristan! Take it easy, man!" Tristan actually cracked a smile, his first of the day. "Look at you, you're terrified. Trust me, I value my life more than you do."
