---- You've worked enough today-go rest." Her assistant's face lit up. She'd met plenty of celebs who thought they were royalty. But Scarlett? Scarlett was a rare gem. Even when she was going through her own mess, she still looked out for her staff. It was honestly touching. "Got it! Rest well, Big Star Scarlett! See you tomorrow!" Scarlett didn't turn on the lights after walking in. The place felt... empty. She lived on the 25th floor, and her floor-to-ceiling windows offered a panoramic view of the city.

Outside, neon lights sparkled in every color imaginable, casting dancing reflections across her apartment. She kicked off her heels and flopped into her beanbag chair, completely drained. Sure, being in showbiz had its perks-like this killer view. She could soak up the city lights every single night. So why did she still feel so hollow inside? ---- Click. The lights flicked on. The stillness shattered. Scarlett looked up-It was Derek. Wearing pajamas, hair messy from sleep, slippers slapping against the floor as he wandered out of the bedroom. "You're back?" he asked, voice thick with sleep.

It was such a normal tone. So natural, like a husband casually greeting his wife after work. For a moment, Scarlett was stunned. Then her mind caught up. "What are you doing here?" Derek walked over and pulled her into a hug. "I missed you." Scarlett stepped back immediately. "We broke up, remember?" Derek gave a lazy grin. "I must've missed the memo." Scarlett's eyes narrowed. "Well, you're getting it now." ---- His smile faded. "Why?" Scarlett stayed calm. "We're adults. If it doesn't work, we move on. You're here now-pack your things and go." Derek's expression hardened.

"Is this about Cyrus?" Scarlett frowned. "What does this have to do with Cyrus?" she snapped. "This has nothing to do with anyone else." "Then I deserve to know the reason." "We're not compatible." You really don't know? she thought bitterly. Do I have to spell it out? I wanted to get married. Derek exploded. "We were just fine for two years-and now suddenly we're not?" Scarlett snapped. "That's right! I'm done. I don't want to play anymore. Got it?" What was the plan, anyway? Date another two years, then another? Grow old still 'dating'? Please. ---- Derek's jaw clenched. His eyes burned.

He had his pride too, dammit. He'd already swallowed his ego, calling her again and again. Now he showed up, and she slammed the door in his face? He'd been spoiled his whole life. Even his own mother hadn't gotten this kind of rejection. Blood boiling, he spat, "Fine. Best of luck to Scarlett the Great. Hope you find your dream man real soon." He stormed into the bedroom, changed clothes like a tornado, then stormed right back out, slamming the door behind him. The apartment fell silent again. Scarlett sank to the floor, covered her mouth, and finally let the sobs escape.

She curled up on the ground like a kid who'd just been abandoned, tears streaming down her face. Why was love so easy for everyone else... but so ---- damn hard for her? She'd actually been that girl-pushing for marriage like a fool. How humiliating. She wanted so badly to vent to her girlfriends... but she couldn't swallow her pride. It's fine. She still had her career. Go, Big Star. You got this!
