---- He walked up behind her, looking at her reflection with her. "Next time, just talk to me, okay?" he said gently. "Don't cry like that. Look at your eyes-they're all puffy." Clara shot him a glare. "What, you saying I look ugly? Or annoying?" Aaron acted innocent. "Would I dare? Honestly, I'm lucky you even give me the time of day." He bent down, scooped her up, and carried her back to bed. Once she was tucked in, he handed her the honey water and watched her drink. Then he leaned in, smiling. "Want me to put on an eye mask? Or some ice?
I'll take care of it-your eyes will be perfect by morning." Clara lay down, turning her back to him. "No. I'm going to sleep. If I'm annoying, go sleep downstairs." Aaron knelt beside her, face inches from hers, voice low and warm. "Look... you're not looking your best right now-puffy eyes, messy-but I'm looking at you, and I still can't help but feel ---- turned on. If desire isn't proof of love, then what is? How could I ever be annoyed with you?" Clara's face flushed. She shoved him away. This man was unreal-even after all that, still flirting.

Aaron caught her hand, pinned it above her head, and leaned down for a kiss. She turned her face. "Don't kiss me." Aaron blinked. "Why not?" Clara huffed. "Because you're still being punished." Aaron groaned. "I already admitted I was wrong. Can't we move on?" Clara raised an eyebrow. "If an apology fixed everything, what would we need cops for?" Aaron sighed and flopped onto the bed beside her. This night was supposed to be sweet and romantic... instead, what a mess. "So, how long's this punishment going to last?" ---- he asked, exasperated. Clara rolled onto her side, back to him.
"I dunno." Aaron let out a long breath. "Your Honor, I'd like to appeal. As a first-time offender who confessed and showed remorse, life imprisonment seems a bit harsh." Clara didn't even turn around. "Fine. Submit your appeal in writing." Honestly, Aaron thought, she'd make a hell of a judge-cold, ruthless, and unyielding. With a sigh, he slid behind her and reached for her hand. Thankfully, she let him hold a single finger. And just like that, it hit him-he loved her even more than he'd realized. But right now? He was drained-physically, emotionally, every way possible. He needed sleep.
They'd deal with the rest tomorrow. ---- Clara, though? She couldn't sleep. Her body was tired, but her mind raced. Those damn photos still haunted her. She'd said she understood his past. She wanted to understand. But she couldn't stop imagining it-what was Aaron like before? Cool and calm? Passionate and reckless? She knew it wasn't fair, but the harder she pushed those thoughts away, the deeper they dug, crawling under her skin, refusing to let her rest.
