---- line between "truth or dare" and "just drink" had completely disappeared. Then Caspian lost again, and this time Logan came out on top. Vivienne leaned forward with a sly grin. "Alright, superstar. What's it gonna be?" Brooklyn's lips curved into a knowing smile. "Dare." Vivienne's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Pick a man in the room and give him a five-second hug." Brooklyn gasped dramatically. "You're evil" Under the dim golden lights, her features glowed like something out of a dream-flawless skin, red lips, every inch a movie star. Around the room, hearts thudded.
Every man secretly hoped she'd pick him. After all, when else would a world-famous beauty offer a hug? Brooklyn's gaze glided around the table and landed on the opposite side. Aaron. He was lounging in a single-seater couch, still focused on his phone, the picture of apathy. Brooklyn bit her lip, then rose gracefully. Every ---- movement was polished and deliberate, her elegance almost theatrical. This was it-the moment she and Vivienne had planned. Her chance. Everyone leaned forward, eager for the show. Tristan tensed. Brooklyn's target was obvious, and this could go south fast.

He knew Aaron well-when it came to women he wasn't interested in, the man was made of stone. Brooklyn stopped right in front of him. Her shadow fell over his phone screen. Aaron finally lifted his gaze. His eyes were sharp, cold, and full of warning. He shifted slightly, giving her space to pass, and went right back to his phone like she wasn't even there. Brooklyn froze, a lump catching in her throat. Her eyes shimmered, the humiliation impossible to hide. A woman like her-beautiful, confident, adored-how could any man stay that indifferent? It was just a game. Just a hug.
No strings attached. Any normal guy would've leapt at the chance. But Aaron wasn't normal. ---- She swallowed hard, forcing her smile back into place. She couldn't afford to make a fool of herself. Turning smoothly, she crossed the room to Logan instead. "Logan, you're the one I know best. Guess I'll take advantage of you tonight." Her tone was light, teasing, her smile dazzling. Logan hesitated for a heartbeat, then stood and wrapped his arms around her. He'd seen everything that had just happened and couldn't help feeling a little sorry for her.
Aaron didn't play nice with anyone he didn't care about. The air between Logan and Brooklyn lingered a litle too long, and Vivienne's eyes darkened. Her nails bit into her palm. Seriously? I try to help you, and you go for my man? After two or three seconds, Vivienne's voice cut in, sweet but sharp. "Alright, that's enough. Any longer and Tl get jealous." Brooklyn laughed softly and stepped back. Logan's fingers twitched at his side, remembering the softness of her touch. He quickly downed his drink to cover it up. Vivienne immediately looped her arm through his, clinging tighter than before.
Logan's throat bobbed as ---- he drained the rest of his glass. Brooklyn's smile stayed perfectly in place as she sat back down, and the tension in the room gradually dissolved. Tristan let out a quiet sigh of relief. If she'd come for him instead, his budding romance with Olivia would've died right there. He glanced at Olivia, who was still watching with bright curiosity, blissfully unaware. Maybe it was time he made his move. The next round began. Aaron suddenly stood, smoothing his sleeves. "You guys keep playing. I'm heading out." "Come on, it's still early!
Not even eleven!" someone protested. Aaron's voice stayed cool. "My wife's not here. Not much fun." Logan smirked. "Listen to him-married life turned him soft already!" Aaron didn't even blink. "That's right." And with that, he left. The second he was gone, the atmosphere flipped. Without Aaron's heavy, commanding presence, the ---- group loosened up completely. Laughter grew louder, drinks poured faster, the energy electric again. Everyone was having a blast. Except Brooklyn. She sat quietly, eyes unfocused, pouring herself another drink. Then another. And another.
