---- Chapter 48: Zero Chance to Spark Some Chemistry Linsey's internship wasn't nearly as glamorous as she'd imagined. A whole month had passed, and she hadn't even gotten within arm's reach of Aaron's suit jacket. At first, she'd followed Olivia around like a shadow-running errands, juggling files, going on three business trips back to back. She was so exhausted she felt like a stray mutt being dragged around on a leash. After subtly dropping hints that she wasn't a fan of business trips, she finally got her wish... and immediately regretted it. Her new daily grind?
Printing documents, fetching coffee, running Google searches. From the minute she clocked in to the second she dragged herself out, she was too swamped to even touch up her lipstick, let alone find a chance to "accidentally" bump into Aaron and spark some chemistry. All those carefully curated outfits? Wasted! ---- She was a proud graduate of a top law school, reduced to being a glorified intern-slash-barista. She glanced at the fresh manicure she'd gotten just yesterday-already chipped at the edges. The more she thought about it, the more pissed she got.
She took it out on the keyboard, clacking away like it owed her money. Meanwhile, Olivia sat in her office, sipping the latte Linsey had made. Not bad. Actually, pretty damn smooth. Honestly, Olivia's first impression of Linsey had been quite positive. The girl was gorgeous, charming, respectful, and had a killer body to top it off. She was a brand-name university grad with all the right boxes checked. Olivia had even considered taking her under her wing for real. She'd brought Linsey along to all the major cases, hoping to mentor her.

But it didn't take long before Linsey started whining about the travel and the long hours. Fine. Office duty it was. But once she had time on her hands, Linsey started wandering from department to department, digging around for gossip about Aaron. ---- At that point, it couldn't have been more obvious. Linsey wasn't here to learn. She was here to chase a man. So Olivia did what any seasoned woman would do-she buried the girl in busywork. The last thing she needed was this lovestruck intern pestering Mr. Devereaux. If he complained, it'd come back to bite her.
Through the office blinds, Olivia peeked out and saw Linsey hammering away at her keyboard like she was punishing it. Her face practically screamed I'd rather be anywhere but here. Olivia let out a long sigh. Oh well. Now it was just a waiting game-see how long the girl could hold out. Finally, 5:30 rolled around. Linsey didn't even check if her work was done-she whipped out her compact mirror, reapplied her lipstick with precision, and gave herself a once-over.
After confirming she looked flawless from head to toe, she grabbed her purse and made a beeline toward Aaron's office, hoping for a casual "oops, didn't see you there" moment. She'd overheard his assistant mention earlier in the break room that Aaron planned to leave work on time ---- today. But just as she was about to step away from her desk, Olivia popped out of her office with a bright, syrupy smile. "Linsey! Mind giving me a lift? A client just called and needs to hand off some paperwork. My car's in the shop today-total bad timing." Linsey hesitated.
"Olivia, I'm actually not really-" Too late. Olivia was already linking arms with her like they were lifelong besties. "You're the sweetest! Thank youl By the way, where did you get that dress? It's stunning. And your skin! I've been dying to ask-what spa do you go to? You're literally glowing... Oh my gosh, walking next to you makes me feel ancient! People will think I'm your mom!" By the end of it, Linsey was all smiles again, chauffeuring Olivia around half the city.
It wasn't until she got home and flopped dramatically onto the living room couch that it hit her-Yet another day without seeing Aaron's face... At dinner, her dad Wyatt asked casually, "So, it's been a month at the firm. How's the bonding with Aaron going?" Linsey pulled a face. "What bonding? I barely even see him!"
