---- Which made one thing perfectly clear: Asher hadn't been trying to kill. But Clara trying to downplay everything to make him feel better only made him feel worse. She was the one lying here in bandages, and she was still trying to comfort him. After a moment, she asked, "How's Mr. Storm?" Aaron replied, "He needed more than ten stitches in his hand, but the bones are fine. No tendon damage either. He's staying overnight for observation, but he'll be discharged tomorrow." Clara's face tightened with worry. "I still can't believe he dove in like that... That's his hand! He's a pianist!
I just hope it won't affect him in the long term." Aaron had already sent Matt to check on him. "The doctor said he'll recover just fine. It's not serious. We'll thank him properly once he's discharged." After a while, Aaron stood and opened a thermal container. "I brought you some congee. Want to try a little?' Clara blinked. She hadn't eaten dinner-no wonder she felt like her stomach was eating itself. She grinned. "Yes, please! I'm starving. I could eat a horse." Aaron could tell she was trying to lift the mood.
The ---- corners of his lips curved slightly as he sat down beside her and began feeding her, spoonful by gentle spoonful. Clara looked fragile as ever, pale as a ghost. But as soon as the spoon reached her lips, she opened her mouth and took the bite obediently, chewing slowly. Trying to cheer him up, she teased, "Getting spoon-fed by one of the country's top lawyers? Honestly, this injury was totally worth it!" Aaron's face darkened instantly. "Don't say that." Clara realized she'd gone too far and quickly changed the subject.

"Did you talk to Leo tonight?" Every night before bed, she made a point of video chatting with Leo. She didn't want the boy to worry. "I missed his call," Aaron admitted, "but I called Lucian back afterward." "Don't tell them what happened, okay?" Clara reminded him. "They'll just worry." "I know," Aaron said softly. "I didn't tell them." They kept chatting like that, their voices quiet and warm, until Clara finished all the congee. Feeling a bit better, Clara got up and shuffled to the bathroom to wash up.
Watching her move around on ---- her own finally eased the knot in Aaron's chest a little. When she came back and lay down, she insisted he not sleep on the cramped hospital cot. So they squeezed into her narrow bed, curled up together under the blankets. Only then did the uneasiness in both their hearts finally settle. Clara pressed her cheek to his chest, breathing in his familiar scent. His presence, his warmth-everything felt like a protective cocoon. The horror from earlier faded like a bad dream. Within minutes, she drifted off into a deep, peaceful sleep.
The next morning, Clara woke up alone in the bed. The sheets were warm, the sun was shining through the windows, and everything around her felt quiet and serene. It was... blissful. She finally understood why people always said, "Peace and health are the greatest blessings." After everything she'd been through, Clara knew deep in her heart-so long as her loved ones were safe and well, she didn't need anything else. She heard soft voices coming from the other room and headed to the bathroom to wash up.
When she came out, she realized the hospital room was actually a private suite, complete with a sitting ---- area and open kitchen. In the kitchen, Aunt Paige was busy cooking breakfast. Aaron and Sebastian were sitting on the couch, talking in low voices. As soon as they saw Clara come out, they all looked up and asked how she was feeling. When she said she felt fine, Aunt Paige's eyes turned red in an instant. "You scared me half to death with that phone call!" She'd already seen Clara as a daughter for a long time. Watching her get hurt like this nearly broke her.
Clara rushed to reassure her. "I'm fine now. I'm mostly just craving your cooking!" Aunt Paige laughed through her tears. "Well, breakfast is oatmeal. But I'll make you something special for lunch." With that, she turned back to the kitchen, already clattering away with pots and pans.
