---- Chapter 52: Model Husband The next afternoon, Clara sat at her desk, leisurely scooping up spoonfuls of warm caramel pudding. One bite, and whatever irritation she'd felt earlier completely vanished. She sighed. Honestly, she was too easy to bribe when food was involved. Not that her coworkers were any better. Every time Aaron sent over treats, he always ordered enough for ten people. Naturally, whoever was in the office got to enjoy the extras-and the praise for Aaron never seemed to end. Today, Mia was one of the lucky ones. "Clara, this pudding is insane!
So soft and creamy, and the sweetness is just right. Girl, I'm sticking close to you from now on-your food game is top tier!" Coworker A chimed in, "Clara, your husband is ridiculously thoughtful. Seriously, he's setting a whole new standard. I'm showing my man the receipts tonight." Coworker B groaned dramatically. "My husband? I'm lucky if he remembers to bring home the groceries. ---- Clara's man is clearly not one of us mere mortals." Coworker A perked up. "Ooh, what do you mean by that?" Clara blinked, a little curious herself. Yeah, what did she mean?

Coworker B lowered her voice like she was about to spill hot gossip. "Remember those fancy pastries he sent last month? I recognized the packaging-it was from that five-star place downtown. I tried to order them the next day and the staff told me they don't even sell those to the public. Said it was a custom request." "What?! From Le Morceau?" Mia gasped. "Clara, you married a freaking unicorn!" Clara gave a modest shrug. "It's probably no big deal. Maybe he just knows someone there?" Coworker C let out a long sigh. "Still. You better hold that man tight. Guys like that?
Endangered species." Coworker D jumped in. "Right? You blink and someone else will swoop in!" Coworker C added dramatically, "Handsome, rich, and spoils you like a queen? God, I need one of those. Universe, if you're listening-send me a model husband!" ---- "Clara, thank him for us tonight, okay?" "Yeah! And make sure to show your appreciation!" "Be bold! Be daring! Be passionate! That's our message!" Clara was left speechless. She kind of wanted to ask: could someone please define exactly what "bold," "daring," and "passionate" entailed?
At exactly 5:30, Clara clocked out and took her usual riverside route home. These days, people were really into healthy living. The park was packed-joggers, soccer kids, dance groups. It was a lively, buzzing scene. Clara genuinely admired people who could stick to an exercise routine. Aaron, for example, hit the gym twice a week and even went on early morning runs. Dragging yourself out of bed before sunrise? That took some serious discipline. She, on the other hand... wasn't built for it. Every time she started a workout plan, she dropped it a few days ---- later.
Just then, a voice came from her left, "Hey there!" She turned to see a tall, sporty-looking guy jogging up beside her. He looked like a college kid-clean-cut, energetic, and clearly trying to be friendly. Probably someone who'd seen her around during her walks. Out of politeness, Clara gave him a small nod. "Hi." He smiled brightly. "I see you here a lot around this time. Must be fate! Just got off work?" Clara immediately sensed where this was going-yep, classic flirty energy. She wasn't in the mood, so she gave a noncommittal, "Mm-hmm," and kept walking.
The guy adjusted his pace to match hers. "Wanna trade WhatsApps?" Clara replied calmly, "Sorry, that's not convenient." "Are you seeing someone?" he asked. "I'm married," she said without hesitation. He blinked, clearly surprised. "You're married? No way. How old are you?" Clara didn't respond, just picked up her pace.
