---- Chapter 124: Is Clara Playing Dumb on Purpose? The second race started. The jockeys gripped their reins tightly, fully focused, chasing each other neck and neck. From the very start, the pack ran side by side, but by the end of the first lap, the positions had mostly settled. Two horses were clearly just along for the ride. Their strength didn't match the others, and they quickly fell more than twenty lengths behind. Dana's prediction was sharp. From the second lap onward, number one, Black Iron, took the lead easily, looking completely in control.
As the favorite, countless spectators cheered for it. Ironheart ran in third and fourth place, performing steadily but nothing remarkable. Kacey and Dana kept their eyes locked on Black Iron, tension written all over their faces. Donald's gaze flicked casually toward Clara. She looked completely relaxed, chatting with Aaron, barely glancing at the track, as if she hadn't bet a million dollars. ---- Was Clara that confident? Or did she simply not care about winning? The three women were around the same age, but the difference in their poise and composure was striking.

Donald turned his attention back to the track. The third lap had begun. The announcer's voice rang out across the stands. "Black Iron is unstoppable. Can it hold on to win? We are at the most nerve-wracking moment. Only fifty meters to go. Oh my. Ironheart suddenly bursts forward. What is happening? Did it not show its full strength last race? Black Iron is relentless, still in contention. Twenty meters. Ten meters. Five meters. And Ironheart wins. Ironheart takes the victory." Curses and groans erupted from the lower floors. Too many people had bet on Black Iron.
Dana threw her binoculars onto the table. "Unbelievable. It ran so well in the first two laps." Kacey looked equally frustrated. Her little fortune had vanished. Mr. Cole, however, was all smiles. "Mrs. Devereaux, you have great instincts. You won again. Hidden strength, I see. Clara smiled brightly. "Not at all. I just believe losing is ---- no reason to sulk. You have to get stronger after setbacks. Horses are like people. That is why I went with Ironheart." Dana smirked coldly. "Clara, you wouldn't be pretending to be dumb just to surprise everyone, would you?" Clara shrugged.
"Miss West already said it. 1 am just a pediatrician. I don't have time or money to spend on horse racing, do I? Maybe I am just naturally lucky." Mr. Cole laughed loudly. "Then I will bet with you this round and ride your luck." Dana's face darkened. She could not believe it. Luck could beat skill? Clara turned to Aaron and waved before heading to the restroom. After washing her hands, she walked down a long corridor. Floor-to-ceiling windows ran along it, looking straight at the audience seats on the first floor. They say you can see all of humanity in a racetrack, and it was true.
Some people pounded their chests in frustration. Others shouted for joy. Some studied strategies for the next race with intense focus. Clara did not rush back. She stopped and watched for a ---- moment. "Clara, running out of luck so you do not want to go back?" It was Dana. Clara turned with a mocking smile. "I am just afraid you cannot handle losing. Crying in public would be unbecoming." Dana's face twisted in anger. "Do not get too cocky." Clara stayed calm. "Funny. I feel like you are the one being aggressive." Dana glared. "You think a little charm lets you stand next to Mr.
Devereaux?" Clara smirked. "Why do not you try it yourself?" She was growing tired. Why did they not go talk to Aaron if they had the guts? Ridiculous. She turned to walk back. Suddenly, a force slammed into her from behind. Her shoulder was hit hard. Wearing seven-centimeter heels, she lost her balance and stumbled toward a nearby plant. This was going to be a messy fall. But the expected pain never came. A strong arm.
