---- Without even looking up, Clara gave a deadpan, "Mm-hmm." "So fast? It's only been two days!" Aaron sounded genuinely disappointed as he undid his tie and walked into the bathroom. He was just starting to enjoy himself! Clara gently rotated her sore wrist and shot daggers at his retreating back. How could one man be so sweet by day and so dangerous by night?! That night, to avoid getting booted out, Aaron behaved himself and slept as primly as a monk. Lately, it wasn't just Matt-everyone at the firm had noticed how cheerful Mr. Devereaux had been.

Sure enough, at 3 PM sharp, the staff got treated to afternoon tea: delicate, high-end pastries from an infamously hard-to-get bakery. They only made a limited batch each day, didn't take preorders, and the only way to get them was by lining up in person. Derek was practically dancing as he munched away in Aaron's office. "I knew it! You still love ---- me. You remembered my sweet tooth! Since you went to all that trouble, I guess I can forgive you for threatening to cut me off last time. You nearly broke my heart, man." If Matt were around, he'd roll his eyes and say, Mitchell, please.

Those pastries weren't for you. Aaron kept working without looking up. "They good?" "Mmhmm! So good!" Derek nodded like a pecking chicken. A faint smile tugged at Aaron's lips. As long as they were good, someone at home should be in a better mood now. Then Derek added, "So when are you gonna introduce your wife? Let's all grab dinner sometime! I mean, c'mon, we've been friends forever and I haven't even met her properly. That's just wrong." Aaron gave a noncommittal, "I'll ask her." Meanwhile, outside Olivia's office, Linsey was nibbling her pastry, heart fluttering in her chest.

---- No way this is a coincidence, right? First day on the job and Aaron brings snacks? Is he celebrating me joining? This is way too obvious... Should I text him to say thanks? Or maybe invite him out for a meal tomorrow? At the same time, Clara was in the office break room with a few coworkers, munching on the same pastries. Coworker A let out a happy sigh. "Wow, these are amazing! Last time I waited in line for forty minutes and they still sold out before I got to the front. I nearly cried." Coworker B added, "Right? My husband won't even try to get them-says they're a pain and overpriced.

Clara, your man's something else. He's hot and thoughtful!" Coworker C joined in, half-joking, half-jealous. "Clara's married life is straight-up sugar-coated. Ugh, I'm so jealous. My husband and I? We're like bunkmates now. Touch him and he doesn't even flinch." Coworker A nodded dramatically. "Back when ---- we first got married, we could go at it all day and night. Now? We're lucky if it happens once every two weeks!" Coworker B leaned in. "Clara, listen to your big sis. You've gotta set the rules early in the marriage.

Men are like Jekyll and Hyde-in bed and out." Coworker C added, "Your husband is a unicorn. Guys like that don't come around often. There are probably dozens of women out there just waiting for a shot. You better wear him out at night so he doesn't have any energy to stray!" Coworker A giggled. "I mean, look at him-those legs, that butt? Damn, even I'm. tempted." Coworker B gasped. "No wonder you were late this morning! Y'all must've had a wild night. It's cool, it's cool-if you ever need help covering your shift, just say the word.

We've all been there!" ---- Clara sat there, unable to get a single word in. Her jaw had dropped somewhere around "wear him out," and the conversation had gone so far off the rails it was practically orbiting the moon. Hello? Guys? Can we please go back to talking about the pastries? Meanwhile, the only male coworker still at his desk was sinking into a full-blown identity crisis. Who am I? Why am I here? What did I do to deserve this? Eventually, he slipped out of the room like a ghost, tears in his eyes. Ladies, I'm still single! Y'all are way too much!!
