---- Most people would've gotten the message by now. Not this guy. He kept at it. "You look like you're my age. Come on, just add me. What, your husband won't let you?" Clara's voice was flat. "Yeah, he won't." The guy scoffed, "Seriously? It's 2025. You don't have to tell him. It's just a little chat. I really like you-we could be friends." At that point, Clara was done being nice. At first, she'd thought he was gutsy, maybe even charming. In an age where most people only had the guts to swipe on dating apps, it was rare to see someone brave enough to shoot their shot in real life.

But after she'd clearly told him she was married, he was still pushing? That wasn't courage. That was just being disrespectful. She frowned, veered toward a crowded path, and pulled out her phone, pretending to make a call. "Hey, babe? Yeah, I'm almost there. Don't worry, I'll be home soon. Anything you want for dinner is fine-I'll eat whatever you want." She kept up the act for two minutes, then glanced ---- back. The guy had finally taken the hint and jogged off in the other direction. Clara sighed in relief. What was the world coming to?

Even clean-cut athletic types were out here hitting on married women? Good men really were going extinct. Her thoughts drifted to Aaron. He had never once flirted with anyone else. He'd even coldly rejected that bombshell last night without blinking. Her coworkers were right-he really was the gold standard for husbands. Clara opened WhatsApp and sent him a picture of her pudding. So good! My coworkers asked me to thank you on their behalf. Ina dead-silent conference room, the sudden ding of a message broke the tension like a gunshot. Everyone jumped. Aaron had been stone-faced since 9 a.m.

Who the hell forgot to silence their phone? Everyone subtly checked their own devices. Thank ---- God-not mine. There was a collective sigh of relief. The whole day had been a high-pressure grind. The construction plan lacked detail? Redo it. The environmental report didn't cover enough ground? Redo it. The public opinion survey missed the target demographic? Redo it. They were supposed to do a site inspection that afternoon. Now it was nearly 6 p.m., and no one had eaten anything besides cold takeout.

Just then, Aaron-still seated at the head of the table-picked up his phone and looked at the screen. And then... his lips curled into a smile. Areal smile. The shift in energy was so dramatic it gave everyone whiplash. Was this... warmth? Was the ice king melting? Aaron tapped out a reply, then looked up. "You've all worked hard today. Let's head out for dinner-my treat." "No trouble at all, sir! It's our honor to have you here. We're just sorry you've had to deal with so much," one ---- director said quickly.

Another chimed in, "I've got a great bottle of red-Chairman, join us for a toast?" Someone else piped up, "And after dinner, let's hit the club lounge. I've got the tab tonight!" The mood in the room instantly shifted. Laughter returned. Faces relaxed. The tension was gone. Tristan muttered under his breath, "Bunch of shameless brown-nosers..." Aaron stood up. "No need. Dinner's on me tonight. Tristan, you handle the arrangements. You all can return the favor next time." As he walked out, Aaron took out his phone and typed: Home yet? Clara: Almost. The river looks beautiful tonight.

She sent a photo of the sunset over the water. Aaron: Let's watch it together next time. Hurry home-you must be starving. Clara: Okay. You eat well too! Aaron: On my way to dinner now.
