---- Sierra clapped. "Yes! That's the mindset! Broaden your horizons, be bold! You and Derek had great chemistry. Just because he didn't want to get married doesn't mean you couldn't have had a baby! Take a page out of Clara's playbook-she took action! No hesitation! Girl, just go get yourself some premium donor DNA and make it happen!" It was like a lightning bolt hit Scarlett. Her eyes lit up, and she leapt to her feet. "YES! I'll just have my baby-what the hell does it have to do with him?!" Sure, telling her mom might be a nightmare...
but once that soft, chubby baby showed up, her mom would be too busy playing grandma to even care about marriage papers. Scarlett grabbed Sierra by the shoulders and shook her with excitement. "You, my friend-I LOVE YOU! From now on, no matter what, I've got your back. Fire, flood, you name it-I'm there. Now drink with me!" Sierra lifted the bottle and clinked hers with ---- Scarlett's.
"Say no more!" Clara watched, shell-shocked, as the two of them linked arms and dove headfirst into a new topic: ovulation tracking, pregnancy prep, tricking Derek into drinking, and even sabotaging condoms with a needle... Meanwhile, Aaron lay alone in their massive bed for the first time. It felt colder and emptier than he expected. The blanket was chilly. Sure, nothing much usually happened between them-but hey, even soup was better than no soup, right? He was starting to miss his sweet, soft-smelling wife. Wondered when she'd be back. After a while, his phone buzzed.

Clara: "Big star Scarlett won't let me leave. I'm sleeping here tonight. You get some rest." Aaron sighed and tossed the phone onto the bed. Seriously? Derek, you idiot. It was bad enough you've been dragging your gloomy butt through ---- the office all week like a brokenhearted ghost-but now you're dragging me into this?! He flipped over, then back. Couldn't sleep. Just then, his phone buzzed again. He grabbed it, heart skipping-maybe Clara changed her mind? Nope. It was Tristan. "Boss, you done working? Wanna grab a drink?" End-of-year projects were piling up.
Aaron was supposed to fly to Silverton, but he refused to travel. So Tristan hauled a mountain of files and flew over instead. He'd been crashing in Greystone the past few days. Aaron: "No time." Leo was home. He couldn't leave the kid alone. Besides, it was freezing. What was the point of two grown men freezing their asses off just to get drunk? Then he hesitated. Changed his mind. Aaron: ---- "Come over. Bring Derek." If he didn't get that guy hammered tonight, he was gonna blow a fuse. They showed up quickly. The moment Derek walked through the door, Aaron caught a strong whiff of alcohol.
Tristan raised a brow. "I dragged him outta the bar. Looks like he's already half-lit. What's eating him?" Aaron smirked. "What do you think?" Tristan looked intrigued. "Did he lose a lawsuit or get dumped by the celebrity?" Derek made a beeline for the wine rack. "Wow, the big boss himself is pouring me a drink? I get to pick, right?" Aaron shot him a warning look. "Touch my vintage collection and you're a dead man. You wouldn't even appreciate it. I've got whiskey for you. Drink that." Tristan winced. Whoa. Derek must've seriously ---- pissed the boss off.
Derek acted like he didn't hear and casually pulled out a bottle of red wine. "Had white earlier. Need to balance it out with some red." He swayed into the kitchen to find a glass and started drinking alone in the dining room. Aaron ignored him and joined Tristan in the living room. The two sat and drank, and before long, the conversation drifted back to work. Tristan said, "By the way-heads up. Richard's team put in a bid for the artificial lake project at the resort. I quietly axed it." Aaron nodded. "Smart. Let's not get involved with that guy. All talk, no follow-through.
I want zero association with him." Tristan added, "Saw your grandpa Maverick at a gala recently. He looked good. Cornered me with some small talk, tried to get info on your marriage." Aaron just raised a brow. "Noted." ---- It didn't matter whether Maverick knew or not. Either way, it changed nothing.
