---- She was twenty-five. She knew what this was. Her body didn't lie, even when her mind tried to. Every time they got this close, her reason would start to crumble. And yet... there was still hesitation. Yes, they'd technically known each other for ten years. But most of that had just been her one-sided fantasy. In truth, they'd only really been together for a few short months. And deep down, she still feared the future. Her mom's voice echoed in her ears-old warnings, painful lessons. Was Aaron really the right person? Was she just repeating the same mistakes?
Plus, like most women, she couldn't help but believe-if a man gets something too easily, he won't value it. Clara did like him. A lot. Maybe too much. And that made her cautious. Aaron's eyes were bloodshot, full of suppressed hunger. "Just tell me how long I have to wait. I'll wait as long as you need." He didn't want to push too hard. He was terrified that rushing her would make her feel unsafe, make her ---- doubt how serious he was. But if he didn't push at all, would she keep running away? It was a razor-thin line, and he had no choice but to dance along it.
Gritting his teeth, he let his hands do the persuading, testing her will with every caress. "Th-three months..." Clara gasped, feeling her brain short-circuit. An actual date. It felt like forever-but to Aaron, it was enough. He bit her earlobe, his voice ragged with need. "Okay. T'll wait. But tonight, I'm borrowing your legs..." The night deepened, and finally, everything quieted down. Aaron carried her to the bathroom to clean up, then brought her back to bed. Clara lay there, legs trembling, completely spent.

She swore to herself-if he ever said the words "movie night" again, she was running for the hills. A few days later, Clara suddenly remembered Sierra's drunken night and wondered if she was okay. She shot her a message: "Hey, did you get a headache after drinking that night?" Sierra sent back a giant eye-roll GIF. ---- "Oh, now you remember to check on me? Some best friend you are." Clara replied cheekily: "Well, maybe your bestie isn't dependable, but how's your ex-husband? Reliable?" Sierra took a few seconds to answer. "Reliable my ass.
Used the chance to move back in and now won't leave." Clara: "Wait wait wait. You, a single woman, him a single man, both drunk, all those hormones... nothing happened?!" Sierra: "...You need to stop." Clara: "C'mon, don't do me like that. Spill it! Who's room did he 'accidentally' walk into?" Sierra: "Mine." Clara: "Ooooh! Spicy!" Sierra: "Quit fantasizing! Nothing happened!" Clara: "Got it. Totally innocent. Saints, both of you." Sierra: "Stop it already!" She tossed the phone aside with a groan and rubbed her throbbing temples. Sleep had been elusive these past few nights.
Who could sleep with their ex-husband lying just inches away, breathing like temptation? ---- She decided to skip lunch and grab a nap while the house was quiet. Barely ten minutes in, a knock shattered the peace. "Sierra, come eat." "[ made all your favorites! Hurry up!" "It's almost one. If you keep skipping meals, your stomach's gonna hate you..." Ugh. This man was relentless. Sierra flung the door open and yelled, "Did your company go bankrupt or something? Why are you so free?!" But the second she saw the table-every dish something she loved-her fury vanished into thin air.
