---- Chapter 127: Everyone Has Their Own Troubles The dinner finally ended, and Clara stepped out of the restaurant, scanning the street for Aaron's car. Xander walked up. "Clara, where are you headed? Want me to give you a ride?" Clara shook her head. "No need. My husband's picking me up. Goodbye, Mr. Lewis." Soon, she spotted a tall, commanding figure in a black coat by the roadside, waving at her beside a car. Clara jogged over, and Aaron opened his arms, pulling her into his coat. "Cold?" Clara burrowed against his chest. "A little.
It's under fifty degrees today." Aaron tightened his hold and bent his head to breathe in her scent. "Good girl. Didn't drink, right?" Clara nodded. "No. I have work tomorrow, so I stayed sober." Once she settled into the passenger seat, Aaron circled to the driver's side and glanced casually toward Xander. "Who was that? He looked familiar." ---- "That guy we met at the racetrack," Clara said, fastening her seatbelt. "Funny coincidence - turns out he's my new colleague. How's Leo doing at home?" Aaron's eyes stayed on the road. "Playing." Clara laughed softly.
"As long as you keep him company, he's happy." Scarlett had been pestering everyone in the group chat about having dinner together, and Sierra's family had just returned to Greystone that day. Clara asked, "Do you have plans tomorrow evening? I was thinking of inviting Scarlett and the others over for dinner." Aaron nodded. "Sure." The next afternoon, Clara was busy in the office sorting through files. Dr. Hayes called out, "Clara, someone brought food for you!" Mia squealed. "Wow, lucky day! It's been ages since we got afternoon tea from Clara's husband. I've missed it!" Dr.
Tyler asked, "Is it from Serenique again?" Clara peeked at the insulated box. "No - Glittering Starlight Hotel?" ---- Mia's eyes widened. "Oh, that new five-star place! We went there over New Year. The prices were insane!" "Yeah, it's pricey, but worth it. The food's amazing - especially the steak. It's incredible," Dr. Tyler said. Clara handed out egg tarts and mousse cakes to everyone, including Xander. He held the cake for a moment, feeling an odd pang of jealousy as Aaron's cold, possessive stare from last night flashed in his mind. Some things were too obvious.

By the time Clara got home, everyone had already arrived. "Hey, ladies!" she greeted. "How do you manage to be so lucky, not having to work?" Scarlett pouted. "Lucky? I barely got any rest." Clara smiled. "Scarlett, working this hard to make money - are you getting ready for maternity leave?" Sierra teased, "You should call her Mrs. Mitchell now." But Scarlett's expression showed little joy. "Not yet. We're registering our marriage tomorrow." "What's wrong?" Clara asked, noticing her tone.
"Morning sickness acting up?" "Not really," Scarlett said, lowering her voice when she saw the three men chatting across the room. "But ---- honestly, do you think I'm crazy? I wanted to marry Derek so badly, and now that it's finally happening, I just feel... restless." Sierra said, "That's pre-wedding nerves." Scarlett frowned. "Did you feel that way when you got married?" Sierra shook her head. "No. We had a whirlwind marriage, totally impulsive. I didn't even have time to think." Scarlett sighed. "So what should I do? Should I wait a few days and think it through?" Sierra shrugged.
"Marriage and motherhood both turn your life upside down. Feeling anxious is normal. But if you were brave enough to face being a single mom, why be afraid of getting married?" Scarlett thought about it. "True. Registering the marriage is just making things official. His parents live in another city, so there won't be any in-law drama anyway." Sierra rubbed her temples. "Exactly! You're lucky. I've been so stressed this year I've almost flipped the dinner table more than once." The other two looked at her, curious. ---- Sierra sighed. "Austin's childhood sweetheart lives next door.
She drops by three to five times a day with soup or snacks. It's infuriating! And my mother-in-law is glued to her like they're attached at the hip. I nearly asked if she was trying to find her husband a concubine." Clara and Scarlett burst out laughing. "Sounds like your mother-in-law really is trying to give your husband a concubine!" "Exactly!" Sierra threw up her hands. "She's obsessed with having a grandson, like it's still the imperial era. There's no throne to inherit! Yet she keeps insisting I need to give her a boy. They barely even care about Elsie.
I couldn't stay there much longer." Clara nodded. She knew these were old frustrations. Sierra had complained about them before. "It's better now, though. Your mother-in-law can't control you anymore, and Austin's a good guy. At least he didn't abandon you." Sierra agreed. "That's the one thing I'm grateful for. He doesn't always take his mom's side, which makes venting a little less painful." Scarlett asked, "So are you two getting remarried?" Sierra shrugged. "No rush. The kid, the company, the house, everything's in my name. No need to rush into ---- remarriage. Let him stew a bit.
A little pressure keeps the romance alive sometimes." Clara and Scarlett both gave her a thumbs-up. "You're a badass." "Come on, dinner's ready!" Ronni called from the kitchen. "Wow! This lamb stew smells incredible! Perfect for this weather!" Scarlett exclaimed, eyes lighting up. Her appetite had finally returned, and all she wanted lately was meat. Derek warned, "Even if it's delicious, don't eat too much." Scarlett glared at him. "Mind your own business." Derek immediately surrendered. "Yes, ma'am! Still, you need to keep our son's interest in mind." Scarlett smirked. "Oh yeah?
And how would you know that?" Derek grinned. "He told me ina dream last night." Clara laughed. "Not bad, Derek. Your smooth-talking skills are improving." "Forced practice," Derek complained. "Clara, you need to help me. Lately, she picks a fight every five minutes." ---- Clara chuckled. "Mood swings come with pregnancy. Be patient with her." Derek muttered, "I try, but it's not easy. Last night she made me read jokes to her for half an hour as prenatal education. Aaron's lucky! He suddenly got a five-year-old son." Scarlett shot him a glare.
"Then maybe you should wait five years to claim yours, though who knows how many dads he'll have by then."
