Chapter 530 Amelia's POV If Damien wasn't going to come home, then I was just going to have to go and see him. I packed up the dinner as best I could, and then slid everything into a bag to take with me. It wouldn't do for the pack Alpha to go hungry. He would need his strength for the coming battle. With everything packed and ready, I had my bodyguards drive me to the Alpha headquarters building. Fortunately, this building was considered secure, so they didn't feel the need to shadow me as I got into the elevator and rode it up to the floor of Damien's office.

As I stepped out into the hallway, most of the spaces were dim, with only low-level lights lighting the space. Everywhere, except Damien's office, where the lights were still on full blast. I walked down there. His office door was open a bit, so I pushed it open further. Damien was there, his back to me, leaning over the map on his desk. He was muttering to himself, but I couldn't hear what he was saying. At one point, he huffed a sharp breath and threw his red pen across the room. Standing straight, he pushed both hands through his hair.

"I'm not sure the pen did anything to deserve that," I said. He spun around to face me. "Gods, I must be really out of it if I didn't hear you approach." "It's late, and you are tired and hungry," I said. He didn't need to beat himself up, not when he already seemed to be doing that to perfection. "You've been working too hard. You need a break." He sighed and shook his head. "I need to get this right." "You are," I said. "You will. But men make mistakes on empty stomachs." I motioned toward his chair.

"Sit while I dish this out." I knew Damien was tired because he listened to me without much fuss. The man was so naturally stubborn typically. Now though, he walked around his desk and sat. I placed the bag I had brought on the edge of the desk, avoiding the important parts of the map that Damien was still studying. I took out two plates and started preparing two meals. "You didn't eat either?" he asked. "I wanted to have dinner together." "You didn't have to do that." "I know," I said. "But I wanted to." After plating the meals, I set one in front of him and handed him a fork.

I moved to one of the opposing chairs where I started to eat my own meal. It wasn't as warm as it had been before, but it was still edible enough. 1/3 Damien must have been starving because he ate his portion in record time. Yet even after eating, he stayed quiet, not so much looking at the map now as avoiding me entirely. "Damien..." The food was only part of the reason I was here. Before the battle, I really wanted to help fix the rift that was still splitting Damien and me. We worked better as a team, we always had.

I didn't want our hearts to be so far apart as we found for ourselves, each other, and the pack. "Maybe we should talk," I said. "There's nothing really to talk about. Everything is fine." That wasn't true at all. On a different day, given the stress he was under, I might have let the lie slide. But not today, on the eve of battle. If something were to happen to one of us... I didn't want this awkwardness to be our final night together. "You can talk to me about anything," I said. "I hope you know that. I'm right here, Damien.

I want to fix this thing between us, but I need you to meet me halfway." "I'm letting you on the battlefield. Isn't that enough?" "No," I said. He looked up at me, and once more I could see the fear deep in his eyes. He blinked, trying to hide it, but I knew him maybe better than anyone else in the world. He couldn't hide it from me. "Tell me what you are afraid of," I said. "Maybe I can help." He closed his eyes and shook his head. "I don't think that's true." "Try it," I said. "I'm your mate.

It's my honor and my duty to help you." At that, he stood and walked to the corner of the room, facing away from me. There was a window there, and I wondered what he could see out in the night. I stood too, and slowly approached him. I placed my hand on his back, and felt the tension in the muscles there. He really was like a coiled-up spring, ready to pop. "Damien," I said again, even more gently than before. This time, he gave in. "I worry that something will go wrong," he said. "We could lose the fight. I could lose the pack.

You could get hurt..." He stilled a moment, then like he was forcing the words out, continued, "Last time I lost you, Amelia, it nearly destroyed me. It was only the girls needing me so much that brought me back from the brink," He turned. My hand trailed down his arm and took one of his as he faced me. "I can't do that again. If I lose you a second time, I don't think I would recover," he said. "Amelia..." He looked away from me again. "I know you are capable and strong now. I know that. But the fear of losing you is so overwhelming..." He lifted his free hand and placed it to his chest.

My heart ached seeing him in so much pain. I inched closer to him, right up against him. "I'm here now, 2/3 Chapter 530 +25 Bonus Damien. I'm here and I'm not hurt." "But the battle..." "I will be by your side, and I will fight with you. We will be a team, protecting each other as we protect the pack," I said. Looking at me once more, he moved his hand from his chest to cup my cheek instead. He brushed his thumb back and forth over my cheekbone. "Promise me you will stay by my side no matter what happens," he said.

"Promise me that, and I will be comforted." "I promise," I told him, leaning into his hand, his warmth. "We are a team, and that means forever." Nodding lightly, he stepped into me. Then, as he leaned down, he coaxed me up, and we kissed. "We should go home," I whispered against his lips. "You need rest." "If I go home, I'm not sure I'll get much of that." There was a smile in his voice now, and I was glad of it. "Maybe you will... after some fun," I said. "Tempting." He pulled back enough to glance at his desk. "Do you really think there is more you can do?" I asked him. He thought a moment.

"No. I've reviewed the plans a hundred times, and they are as good as they are ever going to be." "Then come home with me," I told him. "Be with me. And in the morning, we will face this fight. Together." COIN BUNDLE: get more free bonus 日 Comments Support Share GET IT 3/3 Joseph King
