Chapter 460 Amelia's POV Lelung onto Danten as he ran forward, holding me in his arms. We were tolering, the path of the vene! had little hope we would catch up in human form, this was the only way I codd yet Denden He could have caught up to the van on his own, but he was adamant, he would not leave my second him, and I was still scared enough that i didn't want to be alone, I hoped, eventually, we would find where Jake single-handedly succeeded in stopping, the groep. Ormwww would trot back to us with more intel about which way they had gone.
Instead, in the distance, I saw a dusty pile of something of the middle of the road. My heart set dobromy KOL "Damien," I cried, my voice breaking "That's" He moved quicker, truly pushing himself to the edge now, to bring us closer to that heep, Gentry, he set me dans beside. I dropped to my knees and rolled Jake onto his back. At once I saw the knife protruding from his heart. "It's not silver," Damien said. "He should survive it." Damien was right, in part, Jake's heart was still beating, even with the knife in his chest. There was vmething, strange about the knife though.
It had a strange kind of aura. Almost...mystical. Damien reached to grab it. "Don't!" I said on reflex, Damien stilled, his hand a mere inch away, "What is it?" he asked. "There's something very wrong, with that knife," I said. "He won't heal if it's in the way," Damien said. In any other circumstance, that would be true-for werewolves at least. If Jake had been human, he'd already be dead. Still, there was something telling me not to touch that knife right now. Call it instinct, or just a hunch. I'd made medical decisions based on these impulses before, and they had been the correct ones.
If I had trained under a Healer, maybe it was that training that was calling to me now, even if the memories were gone. I just knew... we shouldn't touch it. Not yet. Not without help. "We need an ambulance," I said, "He has to get to the hospital right away. Damien, bless him, seemed to trust me more than his own instincts. He stood, pulled his phone from his pocket, and brought it to his ear at once. I could hear some distant conversation, Damien ordering an ambulance. 1/3 Chapter 460 +25 Bonus While he was doing that, I leaned closer to Jake's wound, trying to inspect it as best I could.

That aura was unnatural... This had to be some kind of witchcraft, designed to hurt werewolves - maybe Alphas specifically. I needed to do research. I needed a computer. I needed that ambulance to get here so we could get Jake to a hospital before he bled out. Tearing off part of my dress, I lifted it and held it around the blade, trying to stop the flow of blood as best that I could. From this point on, I was in a trance, allowing the trained healer inside of me to come forward, as the caring sister moved to the back of my mind, horrified at what was happening in front of me.
I couldn't think of that now. There would be time to fall apart later. The ambulance came, but it felt like an eternity later. The emergency healers did their best on the trip back to the hospital, trying to stabilize Jake without removing the knife. They agreed with what I had said, that removing it would be dangerous. "Hang on, brother," I whispered to him. "We will find a way to help you." I hoped I wasn't lying. At the hospital, Dad was there, but Mom had taken the kids back to the estate to keep them safe behind the guards.
I knew she wanted to be here, but I was so grateful she was protecting the kids. Gods, it felt like everything was falling apart. Martin clasped Damien on the shoulder. "I'm sorry," Damien said, but Martin shook his head. "You brought my daughter back to me," Martin said. "Jake is a strong Alpha and knew what he was doing. We have to trust he will pull through." Damien lowered his head, and I hugged dad in the interim. Dad held me tightly, then kissed the side of my head. When we parted, he looked at Damien. "Benedict is on his way. He will be here any moment." Damien swallowed thickly.
"I'm sure my punishment is near." "I won't let him harm you," I said. Damien shook his head. "He won't harm me, Amelia. Not physically. Not this time. Instead, he'll just take away my pack." I didn't like that answer, but something like that was much harder to stop. I moved to Damien's side and took his hand. Things weren't perfect between us but on this, we would stand as a united front. It wasn't long before Benedict came into the hotel. Unlike his fanfare at the banquet, when he entered now, he looked more normal than I would have expected, in plain but expensive clothes.
His crown was gone, but his 2/3 +25 Bonus regal stature remained. Even if he was dressed like anyone else, he still carried the air of someone important. I was still holding Damien's hand as he approached us. Benedict looked between us, noticing that held hand before his gaze settled on Damien. His lips were curled into a deep frown. His fury shown in his eyes. "You did not capture those fugitives," the Alpha King said to Damien. "And because of this, they were allowed to run rampant. They captured my niece, then nearly killed my nephew.
From what I hear, Jake might still not survive." A muscle ticked in Damien's jaw. He stared down at the ground hard, like he was trying to burn a hole through it with his eyes. His posture was still also. His hand gripped mine tightly. "I had hoped by the time I arrived, that you would have captured these fugitives," Benedict continued. "Now, not only have you failed to do so, but they are still out there, still plotting and scheming. I trusted you with this Damien, and you have failed me." Damien stood there stoically, accepting Benedict's reprimand without saying a word in his defense.
I wanted to speak up for him, even to just let Benedict know how hard Damien and Jake had both been searching for the fugitives. They'd put the search first, before anyone and anything else. Even me. But before I could speak, Damien tugged ever so slightly on my arm. He was glancing at me sideways and I could see the warning there. He didn't want me to say anything. While it went against my natural inclination to defend him as his mate, I held my tongue. I didn't want to make things worse, which was what might have happened if I had chosen to spoke up.
Even if Alpha King Benedict liked me, I didn't want to press my luck. "I had been debating what to do at the end of the banquet, but now I see that my position is clear," he said. "I will be staying in this pack for longer than I had originally planned. And I will be personally overseeing the capture of these fugitives at last."
