Chapter 224 Amelia's POV Hoping to please everyone, I sat down to dinner. With Mom and Dad sitting on the other side of the table, the only open spot was the one directly next to Ian. "How are you tonight, Annette?" Ian asked. "Well, thank you. And you?" "I'm doing better, seeing you. I'm so glad that Alpha Jake invited me." I glanced past him, looking at Jake, who smiled like he was pleased by this polite interaction. Couldn't he see that this conversation had no real soul? Ian and I were just being nice to each other, but that didn't mean there was a spark happening here.
At least, I didn't think so. Ian was glancing at me like I had hung the moon though, so perhaps I was alone in this feeling. I knew what was expected of me here. My family wanted me to see a future with Ian, and forget all about the mystery man I had seen, the one who had elicited feelings within me that no one else I ever met had seemed to. For now, I didn't feel like I had any other choice but to lie about it, to smile and play nice, even if my heart was in "Yes. That was nice of him," I said, and wondered how no one else could see how awkward this conversation was. Even Ian didn't seem to.

"I imagine we'll be seeing more of Ian around in the future," Jake said. "And then, with luck, we might even hear some wedding bells in the future." "Now, now," Ian said. "We very much intend on taking things slowly." "Of course," Jake said. "In fact, I insist on it. But I can already see the sparks flying here. I know it's only a matter of time." Dad cleared his throat and looked down. Mom smiled so big that her cheeks must have hurt. They both seemed slightly uncomfortable, so maybe they could tell that things weren't quite right here. Jake though...
Did he truly believe the things he was saying? Or did he just so blindly hope that he thought that was enough to make things how he wanted them to be? Ian must have shared the same madness. He looked at me at me with hope in his eyes, like he could see his future here with me. For the sake of my family, I tried to see my own when I looked back at him. He was handsome and polite. A future with him might not be one filled with passion, but that didn't mean it would be bad. Maybe, in time, I could even come to love him. But could I truly be happy in a relationship without passion?
Again, my mind was pulled to the man from my dreams, and how seeing him had triggered a wave of emotions inside of me so strongly that they had forced the air from my lungs and left the entire world tilted a little, never to be the same. If I didn't have those dreams... If I never saw that man and his children... 1/2 Chapter 224 +25 Bonus Maybe then I could have pulled off this life that Jake wanted for me, but I did have those dreams and I did see that. man. I couldn't take those things back. That made it extremely difficult to see in Ian someone I could be with forever.
The servants brought our salads to the table first. I ate mine eagerly, happy to have something else to focus on. Yet, after I finished, before the next course was brought out, Ian seemed to stretch out his arm. His hand brushed against the back of my own. I flinched away like he had burned me. Ian froze a moment. No one else seemed to notice my reaction, but he must have. There was no subtle way I could take it back, and I wasn't sure if I should even try. I didn't want to, despite what might have been my family's wishes.
