Chapter 190 Damien's POV Leaving the brunch, I left everyone behind, including Victoria, and rushed to the biggest hospital in the area. As I drew closer, I felt the pain grow stronger, and knew this had to be the place. My mate... or perhaps her body... had to be here. No, I couldn't allow myself to believe that she was dead. I still had to hold onto hope that she was alive. That hope was fleeting though, even as I clutched to it with both hands. Even my wolf didn't believe it. I rushed up the driveway to the hospital, and then burst through the main doors.
There, in the waiting room, I saw Jake and his parents. The three of them turned to look at me, and, to my surprise, it was not concern in their eyes, but a rage that seemed to mirror my own. "Is Amelia here?" I asked, coming in closer. For them to be here, I already knew the answer. "Is she alright?" Jake started growling then, which triggered my own itchy wolf. He stormed toward me and I readied myself for a fight. "Jake!" Lillian called after her son, but Jake didn't listen. "This is your fault!" Jake roared. On his way to me, he shifted.

I didn't know what he was talking about, but his anger triggered my own, and I shifted too. We were both very big Alpha werewolves, almost too big for the ceilings in this room. "Jake!" Martin said. While Lillian stayed behind, Martin came forward. "Don't make things worse!" Jake growled deeply. I returned his growl with one of my own. I lowered myself ready to pounce if needed. Instead, we both stood there for a moment, snarling and snapping at each other while remaining a few feet apart. "Jake," Martin said again, more firmly. Slowly, Jake shifted back to human form.
Though, even without the teeth and the claws, he still looked furious and dangerous. He glared at me like he hated me even more vehemently than he had in the past. I didn't understand why. He had said this was my fault, but what had I done? I forced back my wolf, so that I could shift to, to ask the questions I needed to ask. I'd coaxed my wolf with that, the promise of getting answers. "What do you mean, this is my fault?" I demanded. "You are behind this," Jake spat at me. "Amelia told me what you did, before the end." - - My heart leapt up into my throat.
I still didn't know what I was being accused of, but those words the end - hit me worse than anything else Jake had said. "Where is Amelia?" I asked. "I need to see her." "You can't," Jake said. "Why?" I demanded, feeling like my whole life laid on the line here, depending on his answer. 1/2 Jake looked me in the eye. "Amelia is dead." Jake's POV It was a lie, but it felt like a necessary one. Damien was going to be a problem, but Dad was right to call me off. As much as I wanted to fight Damien for what he'd done, he was a strong wolf with a powerful pack.
The best way to handle him was with the Alpha King's influence and the backing of the courts behind me. For now, I just needed Damien to back off. If he thought his plot was successful, then maybe he would actually, finally leave Amelia alone, giving her the chance to heal and thrive without Damien's interference. All of the protectiveness I'd felt toward Amelia in the past tripled now that I felt the bond with her as my sister. I'd die for her. I'd lie for her. I'd tear the throat out of her mate if I thought it would help and wouldn't just make more trouble.
When I made the claim that Amelia was dead, I truly thought it would be enough to convince Damien to leave. Comments Support Share 2/2 Joseph King
