Chapter 459 Amelia's POV Ruth raised the knife raised high in the air, light glistening on the blade. She was on top of me, a knee on each side of my ribcage. For one terrible moment, I was certain that I was going to die. Then the van hit a dip in the road. Ruth was an older woman. She started to fall off-balance. Using my whole body, I shoved her off of me. Then, I rolling, I moved toward the back of the van, closer to the door. Jumping out was certain to hurt me. With a road this bumpy, I was sure to break an arm or leg. Maybe even a hip.
But I'd rather some bruises and a few broken bones than I knife in my gut. Yet, at just this moment, looking out, I could see the figures of two massive Alpha wolves racing after the van. They were gaining speed. They were almost to me. I was almost saved. I just had to escape. "Grab her!" Ruth screamed. I wouldn't let them. Instead, trusting Damien with all of my heart, I kicked off from the back of the van and soared through the sky. Damien pushed himself forward, moved straight into my trajectory.
Then, just as I was about to collide with him, he shifted back into his human form and caught me with his very human arms. The force of my fall countered against the speed at which he was running and he toppled. We rolled on the ground, over and over, dragged through the dirt. Damien tightened his arms, holding me protectively, shielding my head and my body with his arms and his own. Finally, after what felt like forever of falling and tumbling, we skidded to a stop. Damien was against the hard ground. He was covered in cuts and bruises but they already seemed to be healing.
Thank the Gods for an Alpha's strong healing factor. "Damien," I breathed. His eyes were wild as he searched me over. "Are you hurt?" He tried to sit up, but he winced instead. "Stay," I told him. "I'm fine. Please just rest a moment.' "Not until I know you are okay." He pushed himself upright, despite the pain. Even through clenched teeth, he eventually righted himself. Reaching up, he cupped my cheeks with his hands. He looked deeply into my eyes, leaned in and kissed me. 1/4 The bond between us thrummed in satisfaction, restored and renewed.
We had so many problems yet to fex,sn many things we needed to talk about. But in this moment, together, reunited, the fear still tearing through s both, I found comfort in his arms, with his kiss. Everything else, we could work through. As long as we were alive, we would find a way to work out our differences and stay together. It would take time, but we had time now. But then, slowly, as the fear of the moment began to ebb, I looked around, remembering, that there had been two wolves chasing that van, but only Damien and I were here now.

I knew that had to be Jake, But that left the question. Where was he? "We have to go after Jake," I said, "Absolutely not," Damien said at once. "But if he went after them, he could be hurt. That Ruth... she's unhinged." "Jake can take care of himself." "They could kill him," I pleaded, "He wouldn't want me to risk you," Damien said firmly, "I'm not risking you!" "And I won't lose my brother!" Already, reunited, we were at an impasse. Damien gave me a hard look, but I gave him one right back. I didn't know which of us would win. Claire's POV The other wolf was still giving chase to the van.
Though I didn't know this wolf as well, I was certain that this was Jake. Sienna would know, but she was driving. I preferred she focus on not killing us than on telling u25 which wolf this was. Besides, it became abundantly clear in the next moment when that wolf leapt from its position chasing us straight onto the bed of the truck. He shifted midair, landing on a set of human legs. I could see with my own eyes now that this was Jake, as I had suspected.
Everything happened very quickly, not giving much time to react or even really process what was happening Our disguises started to wear off. Jake looked at each of us, realizing just who we were. Then his eyes fixed on Ruth. 2/4 "So it is you," he said. "You are the one helping them." "I'm helping too," Ian said indignantly, but Jake hadn't given him any attention at all, not even after he spoke. I supposed it was obvious that Ian would have been involved. Ruth though... Jake must have known her from working at his estate since he was a baby.
From what he said, he made it sound like they had suspected her but weren't sure. Well, now they had their confirmation. "You should have stayed away, little boy," Ruth said. That murderous look in her eyes was still present, just like the knife still glistening in her hands. "You didn't need to meddle in this." "You tried to kill my sister," Jake growled. "You betrayed my family. You are working for rogues." "The rogues have more strength of character than any Alpha I have ever met," Ruth snapped back, venom dripping from her voice.
"Including you, little boy." "Stop calling me that," Jake said. "You have one last chance. Remove yourself from this vehicle, or I will remove you myself. And you will not like what I will do to you." Jake eyed the knife. Ian and I stayed smartly out of the way, pressing ourselves against the side of the van. "It will take more than a carving knife to kill an Alpha," Jake said. "I'm not just a servant, or just a rogue," Ruth said. "That's part of the problem with your kind. You never truly stop to know the people you consider beneath you.
If you did, if you had looked at me for more than a few seconds in all the years you've known me, you would know that I am not just a werewolf." Something started happening then. An eerie kind of mist started to form around the blade of the knife. "I'm a witch," Ruth said. She started chanting then, some ancient language I didn't recognize. The aura around the blade grew stronger, taking on a greenish-glow. "What is that? What are you doing?" Jake demanded. "Stop what you are doing!" He was an Alpha, alright.
Even when his life was in clear danger, he was so confident his commands could get her to cease. Ruth didn't stop, not in the chanting or in her approach. Jake suddenly stilled, like he couldn't move. For the first time that I had seen, fear entered his eyes. Ruth drew back the knife and then stabbed Jake straight in the heart. "Ah!" he gasped, still unable to move. "Goodbye, little boy," Ruth said, and shoved him out the back of the moving van. He bounced a few times on the rough dirt road, before he laid there like a heap, unmoving. 3/4 "Did you kill him?" Ian asked.
Ruth, still holding that cold, devilish look in her eyes, just smiled. P Comments ப Support Share 4/4 Joseph King
