Chapter 230 +25 Bonus Chapter 230 Careful to not lift my gaze again, I started walking toward the lobby. Yet, when I got there, I couldn't get my feet to move me towards the bathroom. I felt suddenly torn, like I wanted to try to go up to where the box seats were. If I could only talk to him... No. What was I doing? In my indecision, I cupped my cheeks with my hands. I couldn't make up my mind where to go or what to do, so I ended up shuffling around in the lobby. Some of the staff were glancing at me, but none had come over yet. Gods, it seemed I couldn't stop embarrassing myself tonight.
Damien's POV I watched as the Amelia-lookalike left the room, sneaking back into the lobby. I wasn't going to follow her. That was what I told myself. And it almost worked. For about five seconds. Then, standing, I told the girls I would be right back, whispered to the nanny to keep an eye on them, and pushed past the curtain door into the stairwell that led from the boxes down to the main lobby. My heart lodged in my throat, I cursed myself with each step. What was I doing? This wasn't Amelia. I knew that. I knew it. Yet, still, I kept moving toward.
Towards the end of the stairwell, the wall to one side disappeared, replaced with a rod iron railing instead. From there, I had a perfect vantage point of the entire lobby, while still mostly remaining hidden unless someone looked up. From here, I could see the mystery woman as she seemed to pace indecisively back and forth across the carpet. I thought maybe that I should turn around, go back to my seat, and forget this whole thing. Instead, it was as if I was caught in a tractor beam. My body moved closer, seemingly of its own accord. The closer I moved, the more of her I could see.

Not only was her face the same, but so was her body shape, and the way she held herself. As I approached, she glanced up and saw me. She froze at once, staring as I moved to stand directly before her. I stopped about two feet away. Neither of us moved an inch after that, not even to blink. Gently, I sniffed the air. Oddly, this woman had no scent whatsoever. As she couldn't possibly be Amelia, it would make sense for her to have a different scent than hers, but to have no 1/2 scent at all was beyond strange. Everyone should have a scent, human or werewolf.
While I wrestled with that, she seemed to have her own internal struggles. This led to us silently watching each other for the better part of a minute. Finally, she broke our tension by saying, "I'm Annette." Annette? "Who are you?" she asked. As she studied my face, I saw no hint of recognition in her eyes. Once more, I knew this could not be Amelia. Annette might have looked like Amelia, but without her smell, and with those subtle differences in hair and eye color, and that she didn't seem to know me at all, not even to recognize me as a pack Alpha...
Immediately, I suspected this woman was some kind of scammer, sent here to trick me into something. My chest ached and I felt foolish. How could I allow myself to believe in the fantasy for even a moment? Amelia was gone, and I had already accepted that. Now, I needed to walk away from whatever this was. "I'm sorry," I said. "I thought you were someone else." Forcing myself away, I turned and started walking back to the stair. I only made it a few steps when she called out, "Wait!" And my feet obeyed her. 2/2 Joseph King
