Chapter 502 Trying to focus, I said, "Please just do it as I showed you. "Alright," she replied finally, her voice a bit growly herself. Then, finally, she listened. She dropped all of her wait, pushing downward, and slipping down through my grasp. Once her elbow was free, she jabbed it as hard as she could back toward me. I caught it before she could actually hit me, as I had already promised I would do. In doing this, I gave her an opening to escape me and she did so, slipping out of my grasp and away a few feet.

Without her in my immediate vicinity, I could finally convince my body to relax. "That was good," I said. She worried her bottom lip with her teeth and nodded. "Do you think many people will try to grapple at the tournament?" "Uh, I'm not sure. Probably some, "I said. She seemed to think about that, which struck me as a little odd. I wasn't aware she had any interest in the tournament at all. Though maybe observing the tournament could help with her training. She could see how warriors fought against one another and would learn how dangerous actual combat could be.

Maybe that would finally have her understand that she shouldn't be involved. "Maybe you'd like to join me at the tournament," I said. "You could sit at my side and I could explain the details of the fights to you." It would be a good bonding moment as well. I could picture myself leaning over to whisper in hear ear. Would she shiver at the feel of my warm breath on her skin? She frowned a little. "No thank you," she said.

"I don't think I'll attend the tournament..." "Oh..." I hated to admit that I was disappointed, but if she wanted to stay home, I wouldn't force her to attend the tournament. Perhaps that itself would be an indicator that she should give up thoughts of battle. If she couldn't even stomach fighting in a controlled setting, how would she survive in an all-or-nothing fight? "Is our training done for today?" Amelia asked, unable to look me in the eye. "Yes," I said. "I suppose it is." "Great," she replied, and started walking back toward the house.

I hurried to walk beside her, wanting to escort her. She seemed lost in thought, so we didn't speak along the way. Later, at the office, Keegan brought in the list of participants for the upcoming tournament. He had two copies, one for me and one for Benedict. We both immediately skimmed through the list. I recognized most of the names as some of my finest warriors. Many of those that had been acting as trainers 1/2 had signed up too. But there were also a fair number of regular pack members on the list. Perhaps Benedict was right and people just needed a place to put their aggression.

To my surprise, there were two names on the list that were anonymous, both giving monikers. "These two here. Who could they be?" I mused aloud. Benedict answered, "Some pack members feel more comfortable fighting in disguise, so I ordered the makers of the online sign-up website to allow for that. It also adds to the excitement. Perhaps a masked champion will win, and everyone will be surprised by the outcome." He laughed a little. "It's not likely, but an unknown underdog can sometimes lift people's spirits." "Are you sure about this?" I asked him.

I didn't like the idea of just anyone entering the tournament. But Benedict seemed confident. "It's the way things are done." I'd never held a tournament like he had, so I supposed I could take his word for it. That didn't make me feel better about this, though. Two unknown warriors were going to fight. Who could they be? 2/2 Joseph King
