Chapter 456 Claire's POV +25 Bonus Just as Amelia was about to take the glass, her fingers brushing the sides, the girls Amy and Stacy, ran by, bumping into Amelia, who, in losing her balance, knocked the poisoned glass of champagne straight off of the tray. It fell down to the hard floors, glass smashing against the marble, poisoned liquid spilling every which way. The girls immediately froze, their faces paling. Amelia righted herself, just as Lillian came rushing over. "Girls! What did I tell you about running in here?" Lillian demanded. The girls lowered their heads. "Sorry, Grandma.

Sorry, Mom." At the sound of glass shattering, a slew of servants rushed forward, mops and brooms in hand. This group was constantly waiting in the wings, ready to intervene just on occasions like these. They had already stepped forward to help Sienna, after she had dropped those plates. Now, they were rushing in to help me. "You need to be more careful," Amelia told the girls, who curled into themselves, making themselves seem even smaller. "You both could have gotten hurt, or hurt someone else." As the girls continued to shrink, Amelia seemed to fold, her voice softening.

"Be more careful next time, okay?" "Okay..." Amy and Stacy said in tandem. They both glanced up at Amelia, and seeing she wasn't really mad, relaxed again. "Brats," I grumbled under my breath. With that glass shattered, I needed a moment to step away from any watchful eyes to add another dose of poison to a new glass. Fortunately, I had anticipated some mistakes, and had come prepared. I brought extras. Amelia wasn't going to escape me this time. Yet, as I made my way away from the scene to try to find a quiet corner, other guests kept taking the flutes from my tray.

Eventually, I was entirely empty. Near the door to the kitchen, I swapped trays with another server, who said, indignantly, "Hey!" They didn't follow me though, as I turned back around. Subtly, I palmed more poison into a fresh glass and approached Amelia once more. Yet, as I was trying to get back to her, I spotted Ian in the crowd doing the same. He was wearing formal attire now, fitting in like a guest. His face was still disguised, so no one would know who he was. But he walked like he belonged, heading straight for Amelia. I moved quicker though, zig-zagging through people.

Just as I was about to reach her, though, Sienna stepped up to Amelia's side. She was still in her servants' attire, and even had her eyes downcast, giving the demure appearance of a humble servant. "Excuse me, Luna," she said to Amelia. "You have a message from someone very important. They are 1/3 195 Bonus requesting to meet you outside," he held out a note. Amelia looked at her culously but then accepted it. Amelia's POV Laccepted the note from the servant and flipped it open. Lama, please. I must speak with you at once, I have information on the fugitives that will interest you.

Please meet me in the parking lot at once. Come alone, The note was unsigned. Looking back at the servant, I asked, "Who gave this to you?" "They didn't give their name," the servant sald. "They only said it was urgent," 1 frowned a little and looked back at the note, howardly, I debated. I knew stepping outside, especially alone, was a terrible idea and likely a trap. But, Damien nor Jake had been able to find any information about Claire and Slenna.

If I could get the information, and it could lead to their capture before Alpha King Benedict passed down any Judgement on my mate or my brother, then he would likely go easier on them in his judgements. I could save them, perhaps, But it would be a risk. Before I could make up my mind, Damien appeared beside me and snatched the note straight out of my hands. Jake appeared on the other side. Damien read the note and then passed it to Jake. "You are not going out there," Damien said firmly. " "I'll go," Jake replied.

"If this person is genuine, there is no reason he shouldn't give me the information instead. That he is asking for Amelia alone is suspicious." "Beyond suspicious," Damien said. "Have guards surround the parking lot first. Whoever it is will talk to us whether they want to or not." The servant who had delivered the message paled slightly before backing into the crowd. "Wait," I said and tried to go after her, but Damien stepped directly into my path, stopping me. "You'd better stay near me until Jake can assess this threat," he said. I didn't want to be petty, or act like a child.

I knew there was danger here and that staying near Damien was in my best interest. But I was just so exhausted of being lorded over, kept like a prisoner, unable to have any of my own freedom. We were in the banquet hall. There were guards everywhere. He didn't need to be so overbearing here. It wasn't like someone was going to just walk up and stab me. So long as I didn't go outside, which I wasn't, then there shouldn't be an issue. "Watch me if you must," I said, "But do it from somewhere else. I'm feeling too crowded being so near you." "Amelia, please.

Be reasonable." 2/3 "I am reasonable," I said. "You are the one who is being too domineering, Damien. Let me just have a little bit of fun with the girls. This is the first time we've been out of the house in a long time." Damien seemed more than just a little unhappy with this, but I didn't care. Turning from him, I put some space between us. I nearly jumped when the servant carrying the champagne tray returned to me. She held out the tray, and a glass of champagne seemed to call to me. Maybe a bit of alcohol would take the edge off.

Seeing this was the same servant as before, I first said, "I'm sorry about earlier. My girls can be a little over- excited at parties." "It's fine," she replied, and pushed the tray a little closer to me. I raised a hand to take a glass, when another person caught my hand midair. It was a man I didn't know. Holding my hand, he bowed low, pressing his lips to my knuckles. "Luna," he said. "Your radiance was noticeable even from across the room." I looked at him curiously as he righted himself. He seemed... familiar somehow, but I couldn't place the how or why. Maybe it was his voice?

But his face left me for a loss. Maybe he just had one of those voices that sounded like many other people. I was certain I had never seen him before. "Do I know you?" she asked. "We've met in the past," he said. "But you might not remember. I'm from Jake's pack." "Oh," I said, guilt rising. "I'm sorry. I have amnesia." "I've heard. But you don't need to apologize. Instead, why don't you make it up to me by accepting my offer?" "What offer?" I asked. He bowed again, just as the string quartet began to play. "Please, accept my request for a dance."
