Chapter 485 Damien's POV I was at the office reading through reports when my phone rang. I had given the guards that were protecting my house a very specific ring chime so I knew right away that one of them was calling. My body tensed at once, my thoughts coming to a sharp focus, ready to act, ready to race over there and defend my mate and my home if need be. For now, I answered the phone and brought it to my ear. "This is Alpha Damien." "Alpha," said the guard. I recognized him as one of the ones I had left in charge of the front door. "Sir, Luna Amelia accepted a guest today.

Just now." I immediately regretted ever making that concession for her. "Who?" I hadn't heard that Martin and Lillian were in town. The last I heard from them was that they were helping Jake in his pack as he slowly recovered from his knife wound. "A memory healer. Jeffery." My blood went cold. "He's in there with her right now?" I asked. "Yes, sir." "I'll be right there." I hung up the phone then darted from the office. Keegan stood, seeing my alarm, but I didn't even take the time to explain things to him. Instead, I ran as fast as I could down the hall.

The elevator was too slow, so I took the stairs instead. Taking three at a time, I made it to the side exit in a flash, and then rushed out onto the sidewalk. From there, I shifted, then ran as fast as I could on four legs, faster than a car, all the way to my house. I arrived just as Jeffery was leaving. Shifting back to human form, I grabbed him roughly by the arm. "What did you do?" He seemed surprised by my reaction. Pushing his glasses back up his nose, he said, "My job." "No one asked you to." "She did," Jeffery said. Damn it, I could see that he was right.

A healer would listen to their patient, even over they would listen to the Alpha. It was one of the more protected bonds. Damn it! Letting Jeffery go, I refocused. I didn't care about Jeffery right now. I cared about Amelia, and what this meeting had shifted in her. Did she remember? And if she did, how much? As I approached the door, the guards wordlessly held it open for me, stepping aside as I entered. I didn't need to ask where Amelia was. I could see her standing in the living room, her back to the door. Her shoulders were ramrod straight, her arms crossed.

1/3 Chapter 485 +25 Bonus I could scent that her wolf had returned to her. She remembered. She had to. Either that, or her wolf was presently filling in all of the blanks in her mind. Bracing myself, I stepped into the living room. "Amelia," I said. "Don't," she snapped. The one word contained so much fury and rage that it seemed to be bursting at the seams. A strange phenomenon for how curt it was. My desire to fix things, to keep things as they were, outweighed my sense and I stepped closer.

"If we could just talk about things." "I don't want to talk." "If I could explain -" "I don't want to hear it." Still I moved closer. I reached out, my fingers barely brushing her arm. She hopped away as if I'd burned her, then spun on her heel and glared at me like I had betrayed her. "Stay away from me," she growled. Giving me a wide berth, she stormed from the room and up the stairs. I heard a door slam. From the sound, I knew she had barricaded herself in the spare room, the room she had stayed in while she had been living here as Annette. She definitely remembered then. Gods.

I ran a hand down my face, trying to wipe away my own stress and misery. It was over. All my efforts to protect her had been for nothing. I hadn't preserved our relationship, I'd broken it myself, building new points of pain between us, rather than simply addressing and correcting the mistakes I'd made in the past. She must feel alone, remembering now how even Jake and her parents had lied to her too, when they had told her that she was Annette and kept her from her children. None of us deserved her, me worst of all. Yet... even knowing that...

To protect her, I wasn't sure I wouldn't do the same thing again if I were to find myself in a similar position a second time. All I could do right now was stand there, feeling somewhat helpless. Alphas usually had plans. We prided ourselves on our leadership and decisiveness. In this moment, however, I had no idea what to do. Sienna's POV 2/3 +25 Bonus I sat outside on the back steps of Richard's house, watching as he sparred another rogue. Despite his higher age, Richard moved with the speed and strength of an Alpha. Maybe even more so. He would be a challenge for Jake or for Damien.

Though Richard seemed set on challenging Benedict, I knew my uncle well, and though he was once strong, he had gotten soft sitting all day every day in his palace. With his advanced years, I highly doubt he could take on Richard. The Alpha King was just waiting to be usurped. It was only the pack Alphas that were helping him stay propped in his palace. Richard seemed to have the talent and the confidence to take them all down. One by one, Richard bested the very best warriors in the rogue territories, with some coming from miles around to try to challenge his authority.

With a war looming, it seemed like everyone wanted a chance to prove themselves and to lead. Yet, Richard met all of them with tenacity and expertise, and beat each one of them down. Some of the defeats were outright embarrassing. Claire came after a while and sat beside me on the stoop. Now that we had our own ways to roam, we didn't spend too much time together anymore. I didn't even particularly like her, and I knew she didn't like me.

But, still, there was something comforting about being near someone with a shared experience, so neither of us spoke out when the other came to sit beside us. Sometimes we didn't speak at all. Other times, like now, Claire said, "Richard might be a better warrior than Damien. They'd at least be evenly matched. It could go either way." "He's definitely better than Uncle Benedict," I said. I considered my once-brother for a moment. "I'm not sure even Jake would be able to win." "I guess it makes sense," Claire continued. "He's been here doing nothing but training and preparing for war.

I think that's all he's lived and breathed for since getting exiled." "Do you why he was exiled?" I asked Claire. "No," she replied. "But I bet he tried to overthrow an Alpha or a king." Watching him, I believed that too. He met each challenger with a kind of bloodthirsty grin and a pair of wild eyes that spoke of his desire for combat and power. He was a true, trained killer. Claire must have agreed. "None of the packs are going to stand a chance against him.

And we are going to be right here, watching, as there's a new world order." P Comments Support Share 3/3 Chapter 496 25 Bonus Joseph King
