---- Chapter 89 Time to Eat "Niall, don't scare the cubs." Ardenia reached out and stroked Niall's chin. Instantly, all his bristled fur smoothed down. He closed his eyes, lifted his head, and leaned into her hand, looking completely content. Now that their totems had lit up, Ardenia started calling him more affectionately. Niall. "We might not have enough meat for dinner, so could you go hunting for us?" The way he did it made Melissa's cheeks flush red! "You really get along with your mates. All the females in the tribe say you're amazing at managing them, Ardenia. Teach me your ways?" Ardenia wasn't even considered pretty-used to be downright plain-but now, though she had changed a lot, her looks were still nothing ---- special. Even so, she had five top-notch males wrapped around her finger. Just look at Halden, working away without complaint. And Vesper, always ready to do whatever she asked. Calder showered Ardenia with praise at every turn, making even Melissa's heart flutter when she heard it. Tobias used to avoid Ardenia, but now? Even when stripping bark from a tree, he kept glancing over at her. Melissa could see the longing in his eyes from far away!

Those two were pretty romantic, too. If Melissa hadn't gone out last night, she wouldn't have known that females could be so forward. She even saw them copulating in the woods, which was mind- blowing for Melissa. And Niall, who had just gone off hunting-he used to be so elusive the tribe rarely saw him at all. Yet Ardenia could boss him around like it was nothing. Iris used to be gorgeous. Melissa was genuinely eager to learn. Ardenia was a little embarrassed. She honestly didn't know what to say-maybe it was because she was a good cook? "| don't have any special tricks. | guess it's just that | cook well? They all love my food." Melissa put her hands together and looked at Ardenia like she was praying. "Teach me! Please, Ardenia!" She had thirteen mates and barely any of them behaved. It wore Melissa out. She had headaches all the time from all the fighting! "Sure. | was just about to make lunch.

Ardenia taught her sincerely-this was her way of bringing a little modern civilization to Beastworld. ---- And as the chief's daughter, she always wanted everyone to live better, no matter what. That included farming. Ardenia remembered from this body's memories that every winter, lots of therians starved, especially those who were injured or disabled. She'd always planned to pick someone from the tribe to learn from her, so more people could get better lives together. Ardenia didn't make ravioli; there were too many kids, and she didn't know how to split it up.

So she brought Melissa with her to prepare lunch instead. Wild onions, tomatoes, and pepper were laid out on the table. When Halden saw her grab the pepper, he automatically went to the river, caught a bucket of fish, and brought them back, already cleaned. That made Melissa even more envious. Look at Ardenia's mates-they always take the initiative to help out! They made grilled fish with green peppers, tomato fish soup, ---- and two big pots of meat. Worried it wasn't enough, Ardenia took down some smoked meat and stir-fried it with scallions. By lunchtime, the kitchen was bustling.

Melissa helped out and learned at the same time. Ardenia taught her everything, from when to add the oil to how to render fat. She used to think Melissa didn't have a pot, so she never taught her before. But on second thought, a stone pot would work just fine. She'd just have Halden dig one up for Melissa's family! That was smart. She'd already decided-once Melissa's family got used to it, if anyone else in the tribe wanted a pot, she'd trade a wild boar for each pot, with recipes included. That way, with the weather getting hotter, her mates wouldn't have to go up the mountain so much.

Take Niall-he worked like an ox in the pocket space and still had to go out to hunt.
