---- Chapter 36 Only Him She's crying like this... Something must've crushed her hard. Halden's expression cooled instantly. His voice dropped, edged with danger. "Who did this to you? Who dared mess with you?" Ardenia broke into a soft laugh at the sight of him. She reached up and gently smoothed the tight crease between his brows away. "No one hurt me. | just... miss home." Halden went still. Home? The word didn't make sense to him. Isn't this place her home? She grew up with the Wolf Tribe. Before he could piece the thought together, Ardenia leaned forward.
Her scent surrounded him, clean and sweet, cutting through his confusion. She wrapped her arms around his neck, her body fitting perfectly against his. Her voice quivered against his ear, delicate and on the verge of breaking. "You're all | have..." Halden stunned. ---- Relief should have come first. She had other mates. Yet those words struck him right in the heart-only him. Her tears ran down his neck, hot and steady, sinking deep into his heart. He pushed down the wild feelings inside and stroked her back in slow circles, comforting her like a lost cub.
"I'm here." He never knew how to make words pretty. All he knew was that seeing her cry was agony. Protecting her was as natural as breathing. Because she said he's all she has. "How can anyone be this beautiful?" The words escaped before he could stop them. Ardenia laughed again. Before he could react, she cupped his face and kissed him. Halden froze, every muscle tense. He never imagined his little female could be so daring. "Ardenia-" "Quiet," she cut him off and kissed him again. His breath hitched. His furry ears flicked sharply.

His tail swept ---- the floor, the tip betraying him with every sway. She pulled away, a playful sparkle in her eyes. Her fingers moved through his fur, drawing slow, gentle circles. The softness was too good to resist, making her feel happy. With a quick grin, she leaned in and nipped his ear. Alow sound rumbled out of his chest. His thoughts scattered. His little female had bitten him. It didn't hurt; it felt wild and addictive. His arms drew her in without thought. Heat pulsed through his fingers. As their skin met, a slow-burning warmth gathered, making the very air dense and electric.
He stayed crouched, holding her like she might fall or disappear if he let go. "Halden, | figured something out." Her voice softened. "I really, really like you." His heart stuttered. Every word struck the tenderest part of him. ---- "Me too," he whispered. "Honey..." The name touched his ear, sweet and strong, wrapping around him until his thoughts faded. His body longed to give in to it. Her skin felt cool and welcoming against his. Wet hair curled across her chest, each drop shining like morning dew. Halden followed them with slow, warm kisses, and Ardenia melted into his touch.
He felt light inside, almost as if he could float away. He had kissed others before, but nothing had ever felt like this. "Honey?" Halden repeated. He did not know what the word meant, only that it was for him. His eyes burned with an urgent longing to make her his. "That's you," Ardenia murmured. He asked, "Am | good-looking?" Her laugh came soft and warm. "Yeah. You're gorgeous. You're the best-looking." She cradled his face, their gazes locked in a gentle hush. She ---- tilted her head and smiled. The nearness was electric, impossible to resist. Something inside him snapped.
He pulled her close, holding her as if he never wanted to let go. "Do you like me?" he asked. He already knew the answer, but hearing it again mattered more than anything. "Ido. | like you like crazy." Ardenia didn't hesitate. Of course, she liked him. He was the first to reach for her when she landed in this world. That alone earned him special treatment. She tugged him closer, pulling him into her pocket space. Halden blinked. Aren't we in the bathroom? Why are we in another place now? He clung to her, glancing around in a daze. Without ever moving, they now sat on a bed.
---- Her scent lingered in the sheets, fresh and sweet. The quilt was soft under his hands. The mattress was nothing like animal skin. Questions filled his mind, but disappeared when she moved. Ardenia slid forward, her knees bracketing his hips. Halden let himself fall back, eyes never leaving her. "Ardenia..." His voice came out rough. His tail curled around her ankle, tracing slow and teasing circles. Her giggle bubbled out, tickling his ear. He was a novice, trembling before someone who moved with practiced confidence. Heat flooded his cheeks, his heart thundering in his chest.
