---- Chapter 59 Teaching Halden a Lesson Halden asked, "Does it still hurt?" When Ardenia heard that, the tips of her ears turned red. She lowered her head and poked Halden's abs with her finger, whispering, "It stopped hurting a long time ago." "Why are you ignoring me, then?" His deep, calm voice sounded above her head as he spoke, and he rested his chin gently on her. "If it hurts, just hit me. Don't ignore me, that's all." When she heard him say that, she definitely had to play along! "Well, you said it yourself.
You're telling me to hurt you, so don't start crying later." As she spoke, she slipped her hands inside Halden's beast- hide shirt. Halden enjoyed it at first, for she'd gotten quite close to his manhood. But the next second, she pinched him forcefully! Halden's face twisted in pain, but he didn't dare make a sound. As if one side wasn't enough, Ardenia reached for the other side. With both hands pinching him at the same time, the veins on Halden's forehead popped. ---- "Ardenia, that hurts!" "Wrong answer. You should be saying it feels good." When Halden heard that, he almost blacked out.
Since when did she have such a kink? Ardenia grabbed onto his chest muscles and refused to let go, whereas Halden felt his soul leaving his body. "Gosh, it feels so good." He never imagined he'd be saying those words while going through the worst pain ever. Ardenia let go proudly. Having taught him a lesson, she rewarded him sweetly by tiptoeing to give him a kiss. "Don't forget to hug me next time, alright? When you get quiet all of a sudden, it makes me sad." "I'm sorry, I was only thinking of how embarrassed I felt back then.
I'll keep this in mind, so why don't you forgive me just this once?" Halden's face was red from the pain, but his voice remained gentle. "Alright, let's head home. It's time to eat." Over at the small dining table, Tobias was already waiting for them. Before Ardenia had gone to pick the ---- mulberries, she'd made a portion of food specially for him. Tobias sat on a stool with his tiny fork, eating messily with much gusto. Vesper returned home just then. He placed the camphor down and walked over. "I could smell the food from a mile away." Ardenia smiled and handed him a towel.

"Go wash your face. You're all sweaty. Wash up before coming back to the dining table, alright?" Calder only returned after the table was set, but Niall hadn't shown up yet. Ardenia looked everywhere, but he was nowhere to be found. "Where's Niall?" "He said he had something to do and would be gone for two days. Don't worry about him," Halden said as he sat down. In front of him was the plate of chicken strips Ardenia prepared for him. "There's mulberry juice too. You can have it chilled or at room temperature." Ardenia poured the dark liquid into glass cups.
A few immediately fogged with condensation, while the others ---- stayed clear. Vesper and Halden both opted to have iced drinks. After all, they'd been doing heavy physical work all day. The spread consisted of smoked meat with juice, flavorful spicy chicken bites, plus crispy chicken strips that tore apart easily. Tobias kept his head down while eating, his fork never stopping for a second. "This is delicious!" "Slow down, guys. There's plenty to go around," said Ardenia. "I can't believe how good this is. Ardenia, are you sure you sought guidance from the Beast God?
Could it have been the God of Food instead?" As he spoke, he picked up a piece of spicy chicken with his fork. "Guys, this meat is fantastic. It's not dry at all!" Vesper, Halden, Calder, and the others ate slowly and steadily, making sure they still had decent manners. However, Tobias devoured the food like a storm sweeping everything clean. Ardenia made another glass of mulberry juice for him, for he had worked tirelessly too. ---- When she had gone to check earlier, not only did he harvest the wheat heads, but he even separated the grains.
Now, they were spread out on the flat stone at the cave entrance to dry. Ardenia's mates were both handsome and hardworking, making them the perfect husbands. They were way better than those good-for-nothings. "Thank you, Ardenia!" Tobias thanked her through a mouth full of food, his cheeks round and glowing. He decided that he'd have chicken again tonight. After dinner, Halden went back to fixing the fence, and Ardenia took over dish duty. Tobias went to cut more bamboo, saying he wanted to make a few more baskets for storing food. Given the hot weather, Calder felt listless and sleepy.
Since Ardenia didn't really have anything for him to do, she just let him rest. Taking advantage of everyone leaving, Vesper finally took out a packet of dried fruit from his pocket. "I met some therians from the Winged Tribe in the mountains who made these dried fruits. According to them, plenty of ---- females love eating these. Try some." As he spoke, he picked up a piece and fed Ardenia. It was sweet and tangy with a burst of flavor. Seeing that she liked it, he stuffed all the dried fruit into her hands, then took the bowl from her and started washing the dishes.
"Enjoy the dried fruit," he said. "I'll finish up here." Ardenia finally relaxed, settling onto a stool as she watched Vesper busy herself. Warmth filled her gaze, and a gentle smile curved her lips. "You're so handsome.' Her mates were wonderful in every way, but something still felt missing. After a while, Ardenia finally understood why. They were all serious and didn't know how to flirt, completely lacking that playful spark.
