---- Chapter 105 Jealous in the Morning "It's okay. It can still be fixed." Ardenia leaned down and hugged Calder, who was lying on the bed. "Ardenia, are you not mad at me? | couldn't even protect the thing you gave me." The child had been beaten into feeling worthless. Ardenia rubbed his soft hair. The words on her lips were swallowed back. What could she even say? Calder was still alive. He was still here with her. That was already enough. Nothing else mattered. After wiping the tears from Calder's face, Ardenia comforted him. "You're the most important one." Calder's eyes shook.

His face turned red at once. He cried even harder. He felt deeply moved. When the pressure in his head finally eased and turned into tears, he remembered what had happened yesterday. He had told her it hurt. ---- He remembered how she had held him so carefully, afraid she might hurt him. His heart felt warm and full, like he was wrapped in something soft and safe. His life felt worth it. "You rest here with me for the next few days. I'll stay with you. Be good and heal up..." Ardenia paused. She bent down and brought her lips close to his ear. She spoke softly.

"When you're better, sing for me. Like you did that night." Calder lowered his eyes. He shyly kissed her cheek. Then he hesitated and asked anyway. "Ardenia, do you still want to break the bond? I'll be good. Don't leave me." Ardenia smiled. She leaned down and kissed him back. "Calder, do you know what | like most about you?" Calder froze. He felt confused. He felt like he knew, but he also didn't. "What is it?" His voice sounded very obedient. Ardenia couldn't help pinching his cheek. "Eat something." She changed the topic naturally. Calder felt very curious.

---- What does she like about me? Ardenia looked at how he held back his curiosity. She laughed inside. She liked that playful, tempting side of him. Only Calder had it. The other four didn't. Those four still needed work. He was just born with it. He cried easily. He looked fragile. He always clung to her in that soft, needy way. Before she came here, people like him only existed on a screen. She could only look. Now she could touch him when she wanted. She could kiss him when she wanted. It was all allowed too. Life felt perfect. Calder was fine. Ardenia felt much better.

When she walked out of the cave with the empty bowl, Halden and Vesper came over right away. Halden said, "Breakfast is ready. Do you want to eat now?" He asked about breakfast, but what he really cared about was ---- her. Vesper said, "Do you feel a bit calmer now?" He felt jealous. He couldn't help it. Even his voice sounded tense. He felt annoyed with himself for that. Niall didn't say anything. He smacked his lips and jumped onto the table. His head drooped to the side. His eyes were still half closed. Yeah. She's fully back to normal. Ardenia felt warm inside.

She handed the bowl to Halden. "! want to eat. | want a big bowl." She hadn't gotten full from the meat noodle soup last night. She grabbed Vesper's hand and smiled. "You sound a little sour today." "I'm not," Vesper said. He turned his head away. ---- "Really? | can smell it." Her voice sounded light and playful today. Vesper looked at Ardenia, smiling at him. He smiled too. He pulled her into his arms. He didn't care if Niall and Halden were there. He had held it in long enough. He wanted a kiss now. His wet lips touched Ardenia's smooth neck. One kiss. Then another.

Niall couldn't sit still anymore. "Hey! One kiss is enough. We're all jealous. Don't push your luck." Yesterday, Ardenia had stood up to Colin on Calder's behalf. All of them felt jealous because of that. Calder was even sleeping in her cave now. Niall thought about how maybe he shouldn't have tried so hard either. Niall thought about how maybe he should have just let himself get caught in a chokehold instead. Then he shook his head hard. No. That wouldn't work. ---- She would feel awful. After that little moment, Ardenia noticed someone was missing. "Where is Tobias?

Why isn't he here?" Niall said, "After settling Calder yesterday, he said he was going out for two days. He told you not to worry." He went out again. Last time he had been gone for days to make her snake skin clothes. It can't be that again, right? Ardenia didn't like that idea. One piece was enough. Any more felt awkward. "Do you want to go find him? I can go with you," Niall said with a bright smile. If they went together, he could have her all to himself for a few days. The Wolf Tribe was far from the city. The trip would take time both ways.

Under the table, Halden quietly held Ardenia's hand. His meaning was clear, too. ---- "She's not going," Halden said.
