---- Chapter 48 Her Tempting Bite Vesper didn't rush-the trail was a total mess. As they moved, he marked their path to make sure the others wouldn't get lost following them. By now, the sun was tilting toward the west. Vesper was starting to feel uneasy. Wild mountains, open land, and him with his little female out here was definitely not safe. "Hang on. I'm going to pick up the pace." He launched himself with a powerful kick of his hind legs, clearing the creek in a single bound. Once they followed the stream downstream, the terrain became much easier to traverse.
Along the way, Ardenia spotted a number of seasonal edible plants. She picked a few and kept walking. When the sun finally disappeared below the horizon, Vesper realized they were far farther from the original peak than he'd estimated. Gazing at the dense forest ahead, he let outa sigh, guilt threading his voice. "I'm sorry, Ardenia. Looks like we might have to camp here in the middle of nowhere tonight." "Don't apologize. You'll be with me, right? And watch yourself ---- -| just might find an excuse to drug you tonight." Her eyes roamed down to his hips, playful and mischievous as always.
"Better tie that little skirt tight." "Ardenia!" Vesper's expression darkened. His little female could hold a grudge like no one else. "What?" Ardenia answered, feigning innocence. A flush spread across Vesper's cheeks. "No drugs needed." "What did you just say? Are you afraid I'll drug you?" Boom. One hand cupped the back of her head, the other pressed against her waist. He pushed her down beneath him, voice low and rough. "You can do whatever you want. You don't need to drug me. Understand?" Smack-the kiss landed. With his striking face so close, she couldn't resist seizing the moment.

---- Vesper's breath hitched. "| didn't realize my little female could tease like this," he murmured. "Really?" Ardenia's grin turned sly as her hand slid from his Adam's apple down to his waist. "It feels amazing. You're mine. Haha!" Vesper refused to give ground. He kissed her fiercely, holding on until her cheeks burned crimson. Then, mimicking her tone, he whispered, "You're mine." Ardenia was about to respond when a bug crawled up her arm. She screamed, eyes shut tight, and leapt onto him like a kitten. Vesper blinked. Sometimes she was all claws, other times fragile as glass.
One bug and she didn't even open her eyes. "It's fine. | squashed it," he whispered near her ear. Just then, Halden and Tobias finally arrived. "You two are fast. We raced like crazy to catch up," Tobias panted, collapsing to the ground. ---- Halden saw Ardenia was unharmed and exhaled quietly, though his brow stayed furrowed. "The hidden cliff was at the edge. How did you two fall?" She scratched her cheek, embarrassed. "Yeah... that's on me. | was checking for mint and didn't realize it was a drop-off. Vesper got hurt badly because of it." "I'm much better now.
Thanks to Ardenia." Vesper set her down, and Halden instinctively opened his arms. Ardenia rushed over and hugged him tight, legs wrapping around his waist like a tiny bear. "Hey! | searched for you two forever too. What about me?" The favoritism stung. Tobias pouted. "That's not fair. You're totally biased." Seeing Tobias' pout, Ardenia burst into laughter, bending over with amusement. Then her stomach growled loudly-after a whole day of running and dodging danger, she hadn't eaten a thing. ---- Patting Halden's shoulder, she smiled. "I'll make something.
Put me down." She found a clear patch of ground and quickly built a small stove from stones. Luckily, she had stashed an iron pot earlier, and now it came in handy. Halden rinsed the pot and brought it over. "What are you cooking? Do you need a hand?" "I'm fine. I've got some instant stuff. I'll boil it. You wash these greens-they're seasonal and won't last." The aroma of fresh shepherd's purse filled the air. Ardenia pulled a few packs of instant noodles from her pocket space, dusted them off-they were still good-and dropped them into the pot.
She used her wood-based technique to purify the water; better safe than swallowing bug eggs. "| don't have much noodles. Just enough to fill the gap." Halden struck a fire stone and lit the kindling. Steam soon rose from the pot. Ardenia slid in the noodles, while Tobias stared, stunned. "How did they get soft so fast? They were hard just a second ---- ago!" Ardenia glanced up. "| swear, you're making that sound sexual." The other two caught on and lowered their heads, trying to suppress laughter. Their little female spoke just as boldly as always.
