---- Chapter 52 Frustration "Halden, you..." Ardenia started, but if push came to shove, she could handle it too. To her surprise, Halden shook his head. "You'll get hurt!" He was already keyed up and worried he might lose control any second. Ardenia didn't reply. She just rolled up her sleeves and got ready. Halden's eyes went wide in disbelief. Can alittle female act like this, too? Halden collapsed, feeling just a hint of embarrassment. Ardenia gave him a quick kiss, and both of them ended up with cheeks burning red.

The color in Halden's body slowly shifted back to normal, and his eyes cleared from the sharp vertical pupils they'd had before. ---- He hurriedly pulled his beast-hide kilt back on, sneaking glances at Ardenia out of the corner of his eye. Thinking about what had just happened, he ducked his head, cheeks hot with awkwardness. Seeing this, Ardenia couldn't help feeling a little annoyed. What a cold, heartless jerk of a leopard. My hands are about to fall off from all this work, and he doesn't even say a single word? Ha! Stupid snow leopard. Fine, he goes silent. Well, good for him.

Really playing by nature's rules, huh? Once it's over, it's just bye-bye. Ardenia had finished getting dressed, too. Halden's cheeks were flushed, and he couldn't stop sneaking glances at her. Seeing her with that stern expression made him feel really guilty. It seems I'm the one causing the little female to suffer. She's not even paying attention to me anymore. He finally worked up the nerve to speak, but just as the words hit his lips, Ardenia kicked him straight out. Somehow, time in pocket space didn't seem to exist, and ---- outside, the sky was already bright.

The few people who were packing up their bedding froze when Halden suddenly appeared out of nowhere. "What the?" Vesper tilted his head, about to ask how Halden had shown up out of nowhere, but the next second, Ardenia came barreling in right after him. Only, the little female looked extra annoyed today. She scowled, shot Halden a glare, and then shoved him to the side. Heartless d*mn snow leopard. Hmph, |'m already exhausted- can't even get a single word of comfort from him! So mad, seriously so mad! The vibe was all wrong.

Everyone there was thinking something different, and even a blind person could tell that those two were off, but no one dared to ask. Ardenia's expression at that moment was icy enough to scare anyone. Niall had been about to ask what they were having for breakfast, but now he didn't dare. ---- On the way back, Halden stepped forward and lowered himself at Ardenia's feet. She just glanced at him and then climbed onto Niall's back instead. Her hands were weak, so it took her two tries before she finally made it. Halden watched the whole thing, not daring to breathe a word.

Calder asked, "Ardenia, did you hurt your hand?" Halden went completely silent. Ardenia said, "Yeah, while catching fish." "Fish?" Calder's voice carried that unmistakable innocence of someone still young. His eyes were wide, full of curiosity, desperate to soak up any little bit of knowledge. "Yeah, a really big one. | had to work so hard to catch it. Then it spat a few times and slipped away!" Ardenia explained. Halden once again had nothing to say. ---- "You not gonna help? | saw you two show up one after the other, you know." Niall's eyes narrowed like a fox's, gleaming with mischief.

He gave Halden a half-smile and a half-smirk. When he caught the faint blush creeping across Halden's beast face, Niall immediately got it. Then he burst out laughing. Calder frowned. "Niall, what's so funny?" "Nothing. Let's head home!" They had gathered all the necessary herbs. After a full day and night, their haul was pretty impressive. The only problem was that, having come down that way, there was no way they could retrace their steps. Halden led the way back while Vesper covered the rear. On the way down, Ardenia kept spotting little treasures.

She just had to point, and Tobias would pull them all up for her. The biggest surprise was when she stumbled on a whole field of wheat. The stalks were golden and thick. Just by looking, it had to be at least an acre. Ignoring the weeds, if she collected it all, she'd have a serious amount of wheat. ---- At first, Ardenia thought she was seeing things. Wheat usually ripens from late May to early June. Different regions and climates could shift that a little, but still. Looks like her estimate of late April was off. Her reading of the plants and the climate had some flaws. "Stop right here.

I'm taking this wheat." Ardenia's excitement skyrocketed. Any trace of her earlier frustration vanished instantly. "Wheat? You mean this prickly stuff?" Tobias reached out, then yanked his hand back fast. "This isn't just some prickly weed. This is good stuff. Come on, hurry up and get it all. I'll make you something delicious with it later." Spaghetti with meat sauce, ravioli, flatbread, pancakes, tomato-and-meat noodles... just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Finally, | get to eat some real whole-wheat food. I'mso excited, | feel like tears are about to spill!

The moment a few of them heard that, they instantly shifted into human form and joined the harvest crew. More hands meant the wheat came up straight from the roots, then got bundled up tight. Ardenia slipped each bundle into her pocket ---- space while her mind was already running through how she was going to eat it.
