---- Chapter 32 What He Wanted Ardenia blinked. Hate him? Has he lost his mind? Who could possibly despise someone with a face like Alucard's? "| don't," she replied. Ha! Don't? Vesper let out a scoff. "Then why did you give back the Beast Core | gave you?" Wait, what? Ardenia blinked, her confusion written all over her face. "You were just following everyone else's lead by giving it to me, and you also mentioned you wanted a dissolution. So, | returned it-how can that be wrong?" Vesper drew a deep breath. Unbelievable. She's set on sending me to an early grave.
"Ardenia," he asked slowly, "are you doing this on purpose?" She stared at him. "On purpose what?" Vesper actually laughed, anger lacing the sound. "On purpose to piss me off." "I'm pissing you off?" Ardenia echoed his laugh, utterly lost. Where's this even coming from? ---- Niall has already torn apart the person who drugged you. Why should | be upset?" She folded her arms and questioned, "| never got into your bed, and | even gave back your Beast Core. What else do you expect from me?" Vesper stayed silent, standing in the water with a cold look as he watched Ardenia.
She was near, yet out of reach. The night wind brushed against his skin, but it was nothing compared to the cold in his chest. he whispered. "What? Say it," Ardenia urged, her patience wearing thin. Vesper inhaled once more and softly whispered, almost lost in the night, "| want a return gift." She thought, Oh? So Halden was right. All this fuss just because he wants a kiss? Honestly, what is it with these males and their ugly fetishes? They have the strangest tastes. Ardenia gazed at him briefly before walking directly toward him.

As she drew nearer, Vesper's heart pounded fiercely within his chest. She comes back. ---- Ardenia paused before him, crouched by the riverbank, picked up a twig, and poked at his abs. She raised an eyebrow. "What was that? | was too far to hear. Didn't catch it." Vesper's face turned bright red. Standing in the water, all his nerves were centered on the point where the twig touched his skin. Their gazes locked. His heart pounded. He opened his mouth, closed it, then tried again-ultimately looking away, visibly flustered. "Oh, come on," Ardenia teased.
"Weren't you full of words just a minute ago? What changed? Have you run out of steam?" Vesper snorted, stubbornly avoiding her gaze as he sulked. He thought, Halden got a blanket, slept in her bed, gave her a Beast Core, and received a gift in return. But when it comes to me, she's more stingy than a dragon guarding its hoard. Then, he spoke sharply, "Ardenia, | told you. | want a return gift." Before she had a chance to react, Vesper quickly reached out and pulled her off the bank. ---- Ardenia gasped, but then she immediately landed securely in his arms.
He lifted her chin and kissed her-forceful, impatient, and possessive, with no hint of hesitation. Her legs instinctively wrapped around his waist, while she tilted her head back to meet his lips. His heart soared, and his kiss intensified. Behind them, the campfire crackled as Vesper accepted his gift. "Ardenia," he whispered as he pulled back, pressing his forehead against hers. His voice softened. "Do you feel it now?" "Feel what?" she asked. Vesper grasped her hand and laid it on his chest. "My heart." Ardenia chuckled briefly.
"Vesper, are you attracted to ugliness?" He furrowed his brows. "Your fun soul beats a pretty face by miles." ---- Indeed, Iris dazzled with her beauty. She had tried more than once to lure him in secret, but Vesper's will remained unshaken. Ardenia, though, was another story. He admired her ability, the meals she prepared, her quirky inventions, and the vibrant energy of her creativity. Ultimately, it was Ardenia's authentic self that attracted him, not her looks. "So..." Vesper asked softly, "could you like me as well?" Ardenia was utterly defenseless.
Love was never something she could take lightly. She believed all her mates were exceptional, which made her feel doomed to fail. From the beginning, she saw herself as a hopeless flirt deep down. After giving herself a quick pep talk, she leaned in and kissed his lips. Vesper tensed up before replying with warmth. In the next moment, Ardenia realized she was being lifted off the ground. ---- Vesper seized her and ran; the world kept spinning until they reached his cave. Ardenia looked down and silently began cursing internally. These b*stards go to great lengths to hide from me.
The cave is incredibly high, and even after losing ten pounds, | wouldn't voluntarily climb that slope. "Focus," Vesper whispered close to her ear. Ardenia quickly regained her composure as a shiver ran through her. In the dim cave, their shadows blended into one. Her mind momentarily went blank, but she swiftly refocused.
