---- Chapter 65 A Mother's Secret Exposed The explanation made sense to Tobias, so he stopped talking and instead increased his pace even further. "You finally came to get me!" Julia yelled. "Do you have any idea how terrified | was just now?" "Hurry up! Someone's coming!" Stephan's expression was grim. He could already sense the pressure of a peak Level 8 therian drawing closer through the air. Julia quickly scrambled onto his back, not daring to waste another second after hearing his warning. In the next instant, the girl and the lion vanished into the forest.
They would enter the territory of the Fierce Lion Tribe once they crossed the mountain ahead. Panic was stirring in Julia's heart. Now that Ardenia had received guidance from the Beast God, Julia feared that her actions would be exposed. Therefore, it was her top priority to return to the Fierce Lion Tribe as soon as possible. But the more one feared something, the more it would come ---- to pass. Stephan, who had been racing forward through the brush, suddenly skidded to a halt.
Confused, Julia opened her mouth to question their abrupt pause when she caught a glimpse of something from the corner of her eye-a snow leopard emerged from the trees, and with it came the pressure of a peak Level 8 therian. He swallowed nervously, a flicker of panic flashing through his eyes. The opponent was Level 8! And it wasn't over yet... Under the cover of night, a silver wolf with snow-white fur advanced step by step, its movements slow and deliberate. Its golden eyes gleamed with a chilling, intimidating frost. This, too, was a Level 8 therian!
Julia recognized the two therians before Stephan did. Feigning composure, she lifted her chin and sharply rebuked them-Halden and Vesper, "Shouldn't you be guarding the chief? What are you doing here?" Halden and Vesper exchanged a glance, saying nothing. The ---- young female's order was clear: Julia was to be slain. Aheavy silence abruptly fell over them. Julia's expression darkened, her heart pounding wildly. It seemed Ardenia knew something-that was why she had explicitly sent people after them. Those with a guilty conscience often panic easily.

Even the slightest implication could cause them to crack and reveal themselves. Julia was a textbook example. Stephan was similarly rattled. He had not expected the Wolf Tribe to possess two Level 8 therians-not to mention, one of them was a peak Level 8 therian! He cast a sidelong glance at Julia, who was riding on his back. The situation was nothing like what she had told him. Realizing he had been deceived, he immediately wheeled around, trying to find a way to break through the encirclement. But to his dismay, he discovered that they had been surrounded.
---- Sitting atop the serpent's head, Ardenia stared at Stephan as though he were already a walking corpse. The principle of "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" was something she understood well. It was the only reason she had embraced the idea of having five husbands so quickly. Since it was a world where the strong preyed on the weak, there was no need for her to show mercy either. After all, the rules were simple: Kill or be killed. "Where are you going in such a rush, Mother?" Ardenia asked, shifting into a crouched position.
The plants around her stirred slightly as green light flickered at her fingertips, then several wild vines slowly began to slither toward Stephan's feet. "How dare you question me, you ugly thing?!" Julia seethed with rage. She never imagined Ardenia would catch up to her so quickly. What's more, judging by Ardenia's expression and posture, she knew-it would be difficult for her and Stephan to survive the night unscathed. Therefore, she immediately softened her attitude after her initial scathing remark. "Ardenia, your father is injured.
---- There's nothing | can do, even if | stayed in the tribe, so | asked Stephan to take me back to the Fierce Lion Tribe instead. Can you ask your mates to step aside? We'll arrive at the Fierce Lion Tribe once we cross the mountain." Ardenia paused before she responded dryly, "What do you think? From the moment you lied and nearly caused Father's death, you severed every path of retreat for yourself. But, Mother... there's something else | wanted to ask you, in front of your mate." Julia's heart sank at those words. Ardenia had received guidance from the Beast God...
Could it be that she really did know something? Sure enough, Ardenia's next words struck Julia like a thunderbolt. "Iris is your biological child, isn't she?" The question itself was a bombshell. Now everything depended on how Julia would respond. As soon as the words left Ardenia's mouth, everyone shifted their attention to Julia. Even Stephan transformed back into his human form, his gaze sharp and cold as he glared straight at her. ---- Ardenia smirked, her lips curling slightly. So it is true, huh? It had only been her suspicion. The question was simply a bluff to spook Julia.
She never imagined Julia would crack so easily-her guilt was practically written all over her face. How pathetic. In the darkness of the night, Julia guiltily looked away for a moment. But she quickly composed herself once more. "Ardenia, I'm your mother. How could you suspect me of such things? Besides, how could Iris possibly be my biological child?" "That certainly makes sense." Ardenia nodded. Then, she turned to Stephan with a smile. "I believe the Fierce Lion Tribe accepted some new therians into the tribe recently.
Let me guess how my mother persuaded you into accepting those criminals: Firstly, their noble status as witch doctors; secondly, females are rare, especially beautiful ones." Stephan froze. She had gotten every single point right.
