---- Chapter 56 Copycats Vesper looked utterly baffled. That works too? "You shameless little vixen!" Tobias snapped, reaching out to yank Niall back. His hand barely moved before Ardenia smacked the back of it away. "Watch your mouth. What vixen? He is clearly my blessing." Doubt crept in Understanding followed. Then, something in her quietly moved beyond it all. "Ardenia, you actually hit me because of this fake fox?" Tobias stared at the red mark on his hand, disbelief written all over his expression. The sense of injustice burned deep in his chest. Calder was stunned, too.

It felt like someone had stepped straight into the role he thought was his. Niall kept rubbing his head against Ardenia's chest, all soft and clingy, while secretly sticking his tongue out at Tobias. "Bleh." 1am going to lose my mind, Tobias thought. ---- "They all look so mad. Are they not letting me stay close to you? But you are my female too. | just want to cuddle. Is that really so wrong? And my shoulder really hurts." Niall looked pitiful. Just one glance like that, and Ardenia might as well have been crowned king. "He is a demoted level 7 therian, and he is injured.

Are you level eight all really going to gang up on him now?" she asked. Ihave never seen such blatant favoritism. Halden sat off to the side, keeping his head down as he shoveled food into his mouth. Hmph. Playing the sympathy card? That is as low as it gets. "I'm full." He said it casually as he stood up and carried his bowl and eating stick over to the sink. He had barely reached it when his wrist scraped against the stone edge of the sink, slicing open a deep, ugly cut, He sucked in a sharp breath and hissed, then immediately clapped his other hand over the wound, pressing it tight.

I'm not like those people. No, I'm not. Yet, the metallic smell of blood was too strong. The more he tried to cover it, the harder it poured out. Niall was the first to notice, and he nearly rolled his eyes right into the back of his head. ---- Abunch of little copycats. First, it's the merman. Now, this stinky leopard. Sure enough, out of the five of us, everyone except me is a jerk. Even Vesper! I don't think I'm blind to it. Vesper can play the seduction game, too. Ugh! Niall was cursing under his breath, but he couldn't act like the others right now. He had to play the understanding male.

"Oh wow, little female, Halden's hurt! That's a lot of blood!" The moment Ardenia heard Halden was hurt, she completely dropped her act. She moved extremely fast and was at the edge of the pool in no time. Seeing Halden's wrist bleeding like that, she frowned and scolded him, "How can you be so careless? You've never even gotten hurt washing dishes before." Well, now it was clear who had it worse. Vesper's expression darkened. In Ardenia's mind, Halden is still the one who matters most. "Sorry..." Halden apologized, lowering his head.

Ardenia looked at his injured wrist, and her brows pulled together immediately. "Come on. Let me get that treated." "| am not going." He stayed rooted to the spot. No matter how she tugged at him, he refused to budge. ---- "You are mad at me. Maybe that is it for us. If that is how itis, then | might as well be dead," he went on. Wow, finally, huh? she thought. Ardenia glanced down at Halden's wound. Once she was sure no "Alright, if you're tendons or bones were hurt, she relaxed her grip. really set on this, | won't stop you.

I've got my own things to take care of, so go ahead and handle yours." Halden froze, a bunch of question marks flashing in his head. Is she really doing this? Why is she leaving? She doesn't act like this when she's cheering Niall up. I'm just saying... that's all. Niall propped his head up with one hand and burst out laughing. He thinks anyone can pull off my ultimate move? It only works with the natural charm of foxes, got it? After the meal, Ardenia stared at the pile of bamboo, feeling completely ata loss. This d'mn bamboo needs splitting. Where can I find the tools for that?

"Ardenia, what are you planning to do with all these bamboo sticks?" Calder asked. "| want to weave baskets out of them, but | don't have the tools," she said. "There are several steps to turn these into finished products, and each one needs tools | don't have." ---- Her perfectionism wouldn't let her settle for anything less than proper. Tobias crouched down when he heard her. He had always been curious about the weird little things Ardenia came up with. Now that she mentioned weaving baskets, he leaned in immediately. "Tell me more. Maybe I can help.

I'm pretty fast with my hands!" For some reason, the moment Ardenia saw Tobias, she was reminded of the night she had just arrived. She had been washing by the river when a leech bit her. He had used his wind blades, right at his fingertips, to get it off her. Thinking about that made her grin. "Tobias, can you use your wind blades to split these bamboo sticks for me?" "I'l give it a shot," Tobias replied. Athin mist seemed to wrap around his hands. He picked up a bamboo stick and flicked it lightly. The stick split open, smoothed itself out, and even the nodes were gone.

Ardenia stared, wide-eyed. His ability was ridiculously convenient. "Tobias, you just saved me a ton of work." With his help, splitting the rest of the bamboo was easy. Once all the sticks were reduced to strips, they'd be ready for weaving.
