---- Chapter 55 Get Some Bamboo Ardenia softened for a moment and ended up tossing the spatula to Halden. She then pulled out all the herbs she had gathered over the past two days from her pocket space. The sunlight was good, so she moved quickly to lay them out to dry. Violet dandelion, however, needed to be dried in the shade. Her cave had a suitable spot for that, but she did not have any tools. As she was fretting over it, she suddenly remembered the bamboo growing in abundance behind the mountain.

There was still some time before the meal, so she grabbed Vesper and headed to the back mountain to cut some bamboo. She planned to weave baskets and sieves with it. "Where are you going?" Niall caught on immediately and stepped forward. That shout drew everyone else's attention. Calder jutted his chin toward her. "Ardenia, mind taking me along?" "Lam going too," Tobias said as he tucked his beloved fork into his clothes. "We are heading to the back mountain to get some bamboo to weave baskets. If you want to come, then come along.

More hands mean we finish faster." ---- The old fox clicked his tongue. I thought they were sneaking off to steal a bite. Turns out they are going to work. However, | have already asked, so it would look bad if | didn't go now. Ardenia stood off to the side, calling out instructions while the others worked on shaving the bamboo. Most baskets were usually woven from moso bamboo, red-edged bamboo, or Neosinocalamus affinis. She had taken a quick look earlier and confirmed that what grew on this back hill was Neosinocalamus affinis.

That type of bamboo was tough and resilient, with long, fine fibers, making it excellent for basket weaving and crafting bamboo tools. They also needed to make a few winnowing trays. Those mattered the most, since she still had plenty of things that would need to be dried and aired later. Vesper and the others moved fast. A few of the mates were clearly competing in silence, even turning snapping bamboo into a contest. Inthe blink of an eye, a whole pile had already formed. Once it looked like enough, Ardenia quickly called for them to stop.

The following steps were splitting the bamboo and removing the ---- nodes. With modern tools, neither task would have been difficult. However, she had absolutely nothing on hand to work with. Ardenia let out a quiet sigh. Just then, Halden called everyone over for a meal, which gave her a chance to step away and give her brain a break. This d*mn bamboo-splitting it, removing the nodes, separating the layers, and turning it into thin strips -every single step requires tools. And | have nothing right now. Not a single tool in my hands. It's driving me crazy.

"Let's eat first," Halden said as he grabbed Ardenia and practically hauled her onto the table. Everyone else was fiddling with their eating sticks, but Calder just sat there, frozen. He pressed his lips together, humming softly now and then, letting out little hissing sounds every so often. Ardenia frowned. "Calder, what's wrong? Are you feeling sick or something?" Calder realized he'd finally gotten her attention. He quickly lifted his eyelids and whispered, "It's nothing. | just cut my hand a bit when | was breaking the bamboo earlier." He held his hand out toward her.

Sure enough, his fingers were streaked with tiny cuts and blood. Ardenia's voice sounded like she was scolding him, but it was worry ---- through and through. "Why didn't you say something sooner? And why push yourself like that with them if your hand's bleeding like this?" She pulled Calder onto her lap, and a strand of her hair fell over his hand, covering it like a shield. The little female is holding my hand. Calder pressed his lips together, terrified he'd let a smug little smile slip out. Tobias gave him a look of pure disgust, like a cranky old subway regular.

D*mn, this merman is so... dramatic. Vesper watched silently. Down in the valley, Ardenia had done the same thing for him when she healed his wounds. "ardenia, you're amazing. | don't feel a thing anymore," Calder said, grinning. His eyes curved up like little crescent moons. Ardenia ruffled the strands of hair sticking to his forehead. "Be more careful next time. No need to snap that many bamboo sticks. Let's eat." Snap. Niall just crushed the eating sticks in his hands. used to think | was the best at teasing little females, but apparently not.

None of these guys is easy, except for Tobias the foodie. Halden ---- especially-he's quiet, but the stuff he pulls offis always huge. Heh! "Little female, | got hurt too." Niall said as he yanked Tobias, who was burying his head in his food, aside and plopped down right in front of Ardenia. He leaned his head into Ardenia's lap, whining as he slid off his beast- hide kilt. The motion was smooth, almost teasingly graceful. Sure enough, his ridiculously pale shoulder had a rubbed-up wound, already covered with a thin scab. "I want it too, little female.

My shoulder hurts so bad." Niall finished speaking, and the beast-hide shirt hit the floor with a soft thump, revealing his lean, toned body perfectly to Ardenia. His long, upturned fox eyes gleamed with sly mischief. Niall tilted his head and let out an exaggerated. "Oh no! How did my beast-hide shirt fall off?" Then he bent over to pick it up, showing Ardenia the flawless lines of his back muscles as he moved. It was ridiculously sexy. Totally appetizing. Seriously, a real feast for the eyes. "Put it back on!

Don't catch a cold." Vesper grabbed Niall's beast-hide shirt before he could and wrapped him up snugly. Little female liked muscles. They all knew that. But someone like Niall, who didn't even try to be subtle and just blatantly seduced her, was rare. ---- Vesper, though, seemed to forget Niall would tattle, That fox wasn't someone he could just drag away. "Little female, look at him." Niall hooked Ardenia's arm with his, his brows furrowing. Ardenia just pulled him into her lap and, with a serious look, said to Vesper, "Niall hurt his shoulder. Don't mess with him."
