Chapter 85 Chapter 85 At the foot of the hill, Whitney saw that Samuel and the others were still there, just as she expected. "Dad, you guys go on ahead. I drove here myself, so we should go our separate ways," Whitney said. Samuel fixed his burning gaze on his daughter and said, "I think your grandma would be very happy to see you." "Yeah," Whitney answered flatly. Samuel didn't miss the flush on Whitney's cheeks. 'Is it just because she rushed down the hill, or is there something else going on?' he wondered.
He was dying to ask, but with his wife and Tina right there, he couldn't bring himself to do it. "Are you heading back to Moore Manor later?" Samuel suggested. "Yeah," Whitney replied. Samuel nodded and said, "Just hang around for a while before you head out. I'll be back after I take Laura home." Tina's lips moved, but she didn't say anything. She was really pissed off by what her father just said. 'It's like he's treating Mom and me like outsiders, and he and Whitney are the real family!' Tina fumed. Tina glared at Whitney, her frustration barely contained. Whitney scoffed. "Alright.
Dad, I'm heading out now." she said. "Okay, drive safe," Samuel said, putting on his best fatherly act. 'What a joke,' Whitney thought to herself, unable to take his fatherly act seriously, ***** 069 When Whitney got back to Moore Manor, she headed straight to her grandmother's portrait. April saw Whitney, realizing they'd just come back from visiting the late Madam Moore. She greeted Whitney warmly, "Oh, Whit, you're back!" "April, I'm kinda hungry. Do we have anything to eat?" Whitney asked." "Of course! I made soup this morning, just in case you would be hungry when you got back.
Let me serve you a bowl," April replied. Whitney smiled and said, "Thanks, April. That's so thoughtful of you," After the mourning period, Whitney figured she wouldn't be spending much time at Moore Manor anymore, especially now that she was about to marry Klein. She made her way to her dad's study to look for the family papers. She was still registered under Samuel's name. But once she got married, she'd definitely find a time to get independent. 'No point dragging it out any longer, Whitney thought. The family papers were tucked away in a drawer in her dad's study.
As she rummaged through the drawer, she spotted an old, yellowed notebook that looked strangely familiar. 13:08 Wed, Dec 24 M. Chapter 85 She flipped it open. The moment she saw the handwriting, her eyes widened in disbelief. 'Could this really be Mom's diary?' Whitney wondered, her heart skipping a beat. She saw a diary entry dated April 5th. 69 5 vouchers [Today, I married Samuel. We had a family dinner, and I felt truly content. The only regret is that my dad and brother couldn't make it.] September 9th. [I'm pregnant, and Samuel is absolutely thrilled.
He's hoping for a boy this time, and a girl next time. That way, when we're old, our son can always be his little sister's protector.] October 10th. [This is the first time I've ever felt real despair.] [I have no idea what to do. I asked the doctor if I could terminate the pregnancy, but he told me if I did, I might never be able to have kids again.] [Never in a million years did I think Samuel would cheat on me.] [Unbelievable! I broke my dad's and my brother's hearts for this man, and now he's cheating on me!] [I don't know what to do.
My baby, if I let you go, would you hate me for it?] It sent a chill down Whitney's spine and her face instantly turned pale. 'So Dad cheated on Mom while she was still pregnant,' Whitney thought, her heart sinking. Whitney remembered her mom's face, always so sad and distant, and she felt heartbroken. Three months after her mother died, her father married Laura. 'So he was cheating on Mom, even back then, Whitney thought, a wave of anger and disbelief crashing over her. 'Mom didn't die young because she was sick.
It was heartbreak that took her life, Whitney realized, her chest tightening with pain. At this time, Samuel called out from downstairs, "Whit!" "April, have you seen Whit?" Samuel asked. "Mr. Moore, I think she's upstairs," April replied. Whitney's blood was surging through her veins as she slammed the drawer shut, quickly stuffing both the family papers and her mom's diary into her bag. She grabbed her bag, trying to steady her breathing, fighting to keep her anger in check. "Whit, what are you doing upstairs? Come to the study. I need to talk to you," Samuel said loudly.
Whitney felt her stomach churn. Her father's voice disgusted her. "Yeah, just say whatever you need to say. I have to get back to the law firm," Whitney replied, her voice cold and distant. Samuel was too caught up in his own excitement to notice her change in attitude. "Was Klein at the cemetery? I saw someone who looked a lot like him!" he asked eagerly. 13:08 Wed, Dec 24 Chapter 85 'So he really did notice,' Whitney sneered. She saw the unrestrained joy on Samuel's face, but her gaze was cold and full of contempt. "Yeah.
What if I tell you Klein and I are getting married tomorrow?" Whitney said flatly. "Really?" Samuel raised his voice in shock. 69 ET 5 vouchers "Dad, I'm starting to regret it. Isn't 20% a little too cheap for a wedding gift? Honestly, only 30% of the shares are worthy of the position of Klein's wife, don't you think?" Whitney said, her voice cold with sarcasm. Samuel's face darkened."No way, Whit, are you kidding me? If I give you 30%, you'd have more shares than me!" he protested. Whitney said with a cold, mocking laugh, "Oh, really?
Then I'll just call Klein right now and tell him the marriage is off!" "Wait!" Samuel burst out, both angry and desperate. Now that he knew Whitney was actually seeing Klein, he was genuinely afraid she might just break off the engagement again on a whim. After all, she'd turned down the Harris family once before! Samuelstill had no clue how on earth Whitney had managed to snag Klein in the first place. "Whit, don't try to mess with me. Twenty percent is already my limit. If you don't want to marry Klein, there are plenty of girls who'd kill for the chance!

Do you think Klein is like Carter, someone you can just boss around?" Samuel snapped. Whitney's eyes turned cold. "Oh, is that so? Go ahead, try me." she said. With that, Whitney hardened her heart and dialed Klein's number. "Hey, Klein," Whitney said, her tone calm but defiant. "Hey, Whit, what's going on?" Klein answered, his voice warm and familiar. Samuel felt his throat tightening. 'Damn, that really is Klein,' he thought, panic rising inside him. "Klein, about us getting married tomorrow... maybe we should just call it off," Whitney said, her voice cold and deliberate.
Before she could continue, Samuel lunged forward, snatching the phone from her hand and slamming it off. "Whitney, have you lost your mind? Do you even realize who he is? Are you seriously trying to mess with Klein Harris?" Samuel roared, his voice trembling with fury. Samuel was still reeling from the scare. If he hadn't acted fast enough, his crazy daughter would've just blown off the best marriage deal he could ever hope for! 'I'd be kicking myself for the rest of my life if that happened!' Samuel thought, his heart pounding with fear. "Didn't you say you didn't believe me?
There's nothing I wouldn't do," Whitney shot back, her voice cold and unyielding. 'Sometimes, you just have to risk it all, Whitney thought, steeling herself. Samuel's mind was racing as he tried to figure out his next move. "Fine, 25% is the most I can give you, Whit. If I transfer 25% to you, I'll only have 34% left," Samuel said, his voice tight with frustration. 13:08 Wed, Dec 24 M. Chapter 85 69 Vouchers Even with 34%, he'd still be the biggest shareholder. And since Whitney was his daughter, the other shareholders wouldn't care about the transfer at all.
25% was exactly what Whitney had in mind from the start. "Alright, let's do it today. Dad, once the shares are transferred, I'll marry him," Whitney said, calm as ever. Whitney didn't even bother to look back as she strode out. Samuel realized, of all his kids, Whitney was the one most like him. She was cold-blooded, ruthless, and all about the money, just like him. Samuel sat on the couch for ages, thinking, 'No guts, no glory. If I want the big prize, I guess I gotta give something up. 'Shares mean nothing if that's all I've got,' he thought bitterly.
Without fresh cash coming in, the company was practically on the edge of bankruptcy. Even the tiniest perk from the Harris Group would be enough to keep AetherTech running for a whole year. Whitney had just pulled up to the intersection when her phone buzzed with a message from Samuel. [I'll get the share transfer process started this afternoon. We'll need to call a shareholders' meeting, so the earliest it can happen is the day after tomorrow. Is that okay?] She sneered. 'See? Only the ruthless get what they want.' she thought.
[Sure.] Starting today, Whitney would no longer see Samuel as her father. [Klein, it's nothing. I just wanted to ask what time we're heading to City Hall tomorrow.] Klein stared at his phone, his long fingers tapping the screen as he thought. [8:30. We'll get married as soon as they open. We'll be the first couple to get married tomorrow.] ***** The next morning at 8:30, Whitney showed up at City Hall right on time, dressed in a simple white shirt with light makeup. Klein was already there, rocking the same white shirt, one hand casually in his pocket.
God knows how long he'd been waiting for her. Klein strode over to her, and said with a smile, "You came." Whitney had no clue that Klein's hand in his pocket was actually trembling a little. Whitney flashed him a smile and said, "Come on, let's head in." They filled out the forms, and snapped a few photos. When Whitney finally held the marriage papers, it didn't feel real at all. 'Wait, I'm actually married now?' Whitney thought, in a daze. 'Wasn't this a bit too rushed?' she couldn't help but wonder.
Klein stood by the window, took out his phone, and snapped a quick picture, wanting to capture the moment. Then he strolled over to Whitney, calm and collected, and said,"Come on, let's go make our vows." 13:08 Wed, Dec 24 Chapter 85 M 7 969 & vouchers Whitney hadn't checked what the process was, so she didn't even realize this part was totally optional with the new policy. Klein gently took her by the wrist, leading her over to the platform.
He switched his phone to video mode, flashed the staff a friendly smile, and said, "Mind helping us record this moment?" Then Klein pulled out a wad of crisp hundred-dollar bills from his wallet and handed it over with a polite smile. The staff member was totally stunned, not sure what to do with himself. "Wow, thank you. That's way too generous." he said. "Thank you," Klein said, sounding casual but sincere. 'That's ten grand! For pressing record? Hell yeah, I'm in!' the staff member thought, practically grinning from ear to ear. "Absolutely!
I'll make sure you guys look amazing on camera!" the staff member said, practically bouncing with excitement. Whitney stared in shock as Klein strode up to the vow platform like he'd done this a hundred times. He grabbed a set of vows, and said, "Let's read them together." Whitney paused for a moment and said, "Okay." She reached for the other copy sitting on the platform. Klein's eyes softened, and he said with a smile, "No need to take one. Just follow my lead.
I'll read a line, and you repeat after me, alright?" Whitney nodded subconsciously and said, "Okay." Right now, her mind was in a total daze. Today, Klein's usually cold voice turned unexpectedly gentle and warm. "We willingly become husband and wife," Klein intoned, his voice steady and clear. Whitney felt her throat tighten, her voice trembling slightly as she repeated after him, "We willingly become husband and wife." "From this day on, no matter what life throws at us, good times or bad, rich or poor, healthy or sick, young or old," Klein said, his voice calm and full of promise.
Whitney looked up, meeting his bright eyes, her voice blending with his as she echoed every word. When they reached the last line, Klein's deep gaze shimmered with warmth. "We'll stay true to these vows, and I'll love you, always." he said. As he finished it, Whitney felt her heart skip a beat. She hesitated on that last line. Almost unconsciously, she tilted her face up and caught a hint of anticipation in Klein's deep eyes.
After a moment of silence, she softly repeated the words, "We'll stay true to these vows, and I'll love you, always." Klein set the vows aside, leaned in, and kissed her on the lips. "Alright, my dear wife, time to head out as newlyweds," Klein said with a playful grin. Klein pulled out a fat stack of envelopes full of money from his jacket, shoved a bunch into Whitney's hands. Then he grabbed her hand and started handing them out to everyone in sight. Staff? Here was an envelope! 13:08 Wed, Dec 24 Chapter 85 Other couples getting married? Envelopes for them too!
Even the cleaning lady got lucky! Everyone was grinning from ear to ear. "Congrats! Wishing you two a lifetime of happiness together!" "Oh, you guys are gorgeous! A perfect match!" (690 10 vouchers Klein laughed and slipped two envelopes into the hands of the person who'd just showered them with blessings. Finally, with everything done, Whitney walked out of City Hall in a daze. She shot Klein a complicated look and said,"You even brought envelopes of money?" 'Is this really how it's supposed to go?' Whitney wondered, totally confused.
'Why has no one ever mentioned this before?' she thought, still trying to process it. Klein was totally serious. "Yes, this is how everyone does it when they get married. If you don't believe me, just ask anyone here." he sounded confident. Whitney blinked. 'Seriously? I don't even have any friends who've gotten married. How would I know?' she thought, feeling a little helpless. 'What, am I supposed to wait until Carter gets hitched and then ask him how it works?' Whitney snarked. "Alright, if you say so," Whitney replied, giving in with a sigh.
Klein took her hand and slipped a ring onto her finger, and then gave her his ring to put on his finger. "Will you put it on for me?" he asked, his voice low and gentle. "...Okay," Whitney replied after a pause. 'Wasn't this supposed to be just a marriage of convenience? Why is he so into the whole ceremony thing?' Whitney wondered, a little thrown off. Whitney slowly slid the ring onto Klein's finger, her palm starting to sweat from nerves. Klein laced his fingers through hers, lifted their hands together, and snapped a quick photo with his phone. "Alright, let's head home. Mrs.
Harris, time to help you move in," Klein said, his tone playful and full of anticipation. AD Comment Send gift No Ads 13:09 Wed, Dec 24 Dex Morgan Dex Morgan works to elevate each story with clean writing, emotional balance, and thoughtful flow for readers.
