Chapter 146 Whitney thought Klein would ask more questions, but he didn't. He just agreed readily. He was giving her his full support, no questions asked. Just like they'd agreed before getting married, Klein was keeping his word. Whitney's heart was tangled with complicated, bittersweet emotions. Even if Klein never said it out loud, she knew he was head over heels for her. Back at the villa, Whitney holed up in her room for two days before she finally started to feel like herself again. At Harris Manor, Whitney ran into Carter, someone she hadn't seen in ages.

Klein had gone to the study to talk to James. Whitney was strolling in the garden when Carter appeared. Whitney turned on her heel, instantly on guard, eager to get out of there as fast as possible. She didn't want any of the staff to see her alone with Carter, not even for a moment. She wasn't about to give them even a second's chance to start gossiping. "Whitney, why are you running away?" Carter called out. Whitney looked at him with obvious disgust. "Stop right there, Carter. Don't come any closer." Luckily, Lena walked in just in time to see what was happening.

"Carter, what are you doing?" Lena called out. Lena quickly stepped in, standing protectively in front of Whitney. Whitney finally felt relieved. Having a third person there was all she needed. Carter's jaw clenched. "What are you two doing? I just wanted to say a few words." "Carter, Whitney is married to Uncle Klein now! If you've got something to say, why don't you say it in front of him?" Lena shot back.

Carter pursed his lips and said, "Whitney, do you really have to act like this?" "Are we not even allowed to have a normal conversation anymore?" Whitney gave him a cold look and said,"Probably best not to. Wouldn't want Klein getting the wrong idea." "And you should be calling me Aunt Whitney. Remember your place." Carter took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. "I heard about your family drama. Emily and your sister are close. Can't you just drop it for me? We're all family. Why make a scene?" 'How typical. What nonsense is he talking?' Whitney thought.

Whitney snorted and said, "Sorry, but you know this is my business, so it's got nothing to do with you. If you think I'm being too much, maybe you should pull an all-nighter, get a law degree, and represent her yourself. Sound good?" "You don't have any pull with me, anyway." "And those lame jokes? Seriously, cut it out. Otherwise, you're just making yourself look ridiculous." With that, Whitney took Lena by the hand and headed straight out, not giving Carter another glance. Carter felt frustrated. 'Seems it's not just that she doesn't love me. She really despises me now, he thought.

'I'm just trying to talk to her, but she acts like I'm some kind of enemy, Carter thought. 'And what does she mean? None of my business? I'm only looking out for her reputation!' Carter thought, feeling unappreciated. 'But she doesn't even care.' *** "Seriously, Carter is so full of himself! He still thinks things are like they used to be. I can't even," Lena scoffed. Lena was just as mad as Whitney. Just Carter's self-important tone made Lena roll her eyes. Just then, Klein stepped out of the study. "Uncle Klein!" Lena called out.

Whitney thought Lena was about to complain, so she quickly gave Lena a look and shook her head, signaling her not to say anything. As far as Whitney was concerned, Carter was just a nobody now, so there was no point in letting Klein get annoyed over someone irrelevant. Klein caught them exchanging glances and said with a chuckle, "What are you two plotting over there?" Whitney gave her friend a quick pinch. "Oh, nothing. She just missed you and wanted to call out to you, that's all." Lena gasped. "Yeah, sure, Uncle Klein, I really missed you." 'Yeah, right.

I miss the way he throws money around,' Lena thought to herself. James came downstairs. "Lena, is your mom coming back soon?" Lena replied offhandedly, "I guess so." James knew things were awkward between Lena and her mom, so he didn't push it. Chapter 146 Whitney held Lena's hand. Lena forced a smile and said, "I'm fine." 'What could even bother me at this point?' Lena thought. It was just that her mom was getting remarried, again. This was her mom's fifth wedding. By now, Lena was just numb. 55 vouchers Laura's case was settled quickly.

When the first verdict came down with the maximum sentence, Whitney held the judgment in her hands and finally breathed a sigh of relief. 'Mom, I did everything I could,' Whitney thought. Outside the courthouse, Tina stood there, looking deflated. The second she saw Whitney, Tina went berserk and lunged at her, looking ready to attack Whitney. Just one look from Klein, and the bodyguards instantly blocked her way. "Whitney, you cold-hearted, backstabbing bitch! Don't you ever lose sleep at night? My mom was nothing but good to you, and this is how you treat her?

I swear, I won't go easy on you!" Tina yelled, her voice cracking with rage. Samuel didn't hesitate. He slapped Tina hard in the face. "Shut your mouth!" Samuel snapped. He shot Klein a sheepish grin. "Hey, Klein, don't take it to heart. She's just a kid who never knows when to keep her mouth shut." Klein's gaze turned cold. "Isn't she an adult?" "She's in her twenties. That's hardly a kid anymore. If she's grown enough to run her mouth, she's grown enough to pay for it," Klein said, his tone cold and unforgiving. Samuel flinched. "I'll send her abroad tomorrow.

Is that good enough for you?" "Send her abroad? That's just a vacation. If you really want her to learn something, I know a place out in the countryside where life's a little tough. How about that, Dad?" Klein said coldly. Samuel could tell that Tina had completely pushed Klein over the edge this time. He had no choice but to give in. "Sure," Samuel replied, his tone resigned. Tina stared at her dad, panic all over her face. "Dad, have you lost it? No way am I going! I'm not going to some dump in the sticks!

This is straight-up kidnapping!" Vouchers Samuel finally snapped and slapped her again. "Shut up! Keep acting up, and you might end up dead!" Tina finally burst into tears. Forget the tough life, what really freaked her out was Samuel's threat. She hated the idea of roughing it, but dying? No way! **** The day Tina got sent off to that remote countryside, Samuel's company stock price nosedived. With his business in freefall, worrying about Tina's future was the last thing on his mind. Whitney checked the stock market and thought to herself, 'Damn, Klein moves fast.

She whipped out her phone and texted him right away. [Honey, let's go out for dinner. My treat!] Whitney was trying to butter him up. Klein smirked at her message, clearly amused. [Alright, it's all up to you.] When Klein arrived at the restaurant, Whitney hadn't shown up. "Mr. Harris, Ms. Moore said she'll be a little late. She asked you to wait for her," the waiter informed him. Klein just raised his eyebrows and nodded. He took out his phone and got to work while he waited.

He was supposed to be working overtime tonight, but for once, he decided to take a break and go on a date with his wife. He had no idea how much time had passed when, all of a sudden, the lights in the private room went out. Just as he was about to get up, the door opened, and Whitney walked in, carrying a cake with flickering candles, softly singing. "Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you!" Whitney sang, her voice sweet and clear. Klein smiled and gazed at Whitney, her face glowing in the candlelight. "Klein, happy thirty-fourth birthday!

Congratulations on getting another year older!" Whitney teased. Klein's eye twitched. 'Is she teasing me or just calling me old?' he thought, a little offended. "Come on, blow out the candles and make a wish!" Whitney said, giving him a gentle push toward the cake. Birthdays? Klein couldn't care less. For him, it was just another regular day, nothing to get excited about. He closed his eyes just like Whitney told him to, and honestly, she had no idea what he was thinking. After a minute, he finally opened his eyes.

"Go on, make a wish and blow out the candles!" Whitney gave Klein a playful nudge. Klein took a breath and blew out all the candles on the cake, shaking his head at Whitney's joke. Whitney pulled out a plate from the cart. "Sorry I found out about your birthday a bit late. I just learned how to make spaghetti from the chef. Give it a try!" Klein pulled the plate closer and didn't even pause to talk. He just started digging in like he hadn't eaten in days. Before she could blink, the food was gone. Whitney was dying to know.

"Klein, what did you wish for?" He'd looked so sincere making that wish. She couldn't help but wonder what it was. Klein raised his eyebrows, a hint of mischief in his eyes. "You really want to know?" "Yeah! Is it something you can share?" Whitney pressed, her curiosity getting the best of her. "Of course," Klein said. Klein wiped his mouth and said, "I wished you'd let me use up a whole box of condoms tonight." "Wait, what?" Whitney blurted out, totally caught off guard. "Are you serious?!" Whitney stared at Klein, eyes widened in disbelief. 'Unbelievable!

He's trying to piss me off,' Whitney thought, feeling speechless and flustered. 'Who in their right mind makes such a shameless birthday wish? Seriously, is he for real?' Whitney grumbled. By the time dinner was over, Whitney was still all flustered, trailing after Klein as they got out of the car. She tugged at his sleeve, her voice soft and pleading, "Can we just use half the box tonight? Please!" Klein just shook his head, a wicked grin on his face. "Baby, it's my birthday. Just make my wish come true, okay?" Klein said, his tone playful but absolutely determined.
