Chapter 103 Klein shot a cold glance at Calvin, that gossip-loving busybody, and snapped back, "What do you think?" He watched as Whitney disappeared in a flash, his mind swirling with thoughts. Just like before, whenever darkness fell, she just couldn't help herself. Her fragrance still clung to his fingers. He lifted his hand to his nose, breathing in that lingering sweetness. Calvin walked in right as Klein was doing something totally bizarre. They stared at each other in awkward silence. Calvin felt a chill down his spine. "Mr. Harris, I'll just head up to the fifth floor now.
You take care." he said quickly. He didn't waste another second and practically sprinted for the stairs. 'Damn, that was terrifying. One day he's gonna make me disappear!' Calvin thought, his heart racing. 'No way, I better cozy up to Whitney for dear life!' Calvin thought, his nerves shot. 'Just look at Mr. Harris, acting all awkward and totally whipped. Who would've guessed my boss was such a pushover for his wife?' Calvin couldn't help but shake his head. Whitney dashed into the parking lot, catching her breath. 'Why does Klein have to be so moody?' Whitney thought.
One second he was icy cold, and the next, he was pulling her into his arms like she was the most precious thing in the world. That unique, chilly scent of his still lingered on her skin, hot and cold all at once, a feeling she just couldn't describe. "Whitney! They just had a blackout. You didn't get stuck in the elevator, did you?" Ivan called out from behind, startling her. Ivan's voice make her jump. "Boss," Whitney sighed, "why do you always sneak up on people like that?" Ivan blinked and said, "Really?
What were you thinking about so hard?" "Oh, nothing," Whitney said as she hopped into the passenger seat. Ivan slid in next to her, eyeing Whitney suspiciously from the corner of his eye. "Whitney, are you feeling hot or something? Your face is red," he asked. "No," Whitney replied, rolling down the window. "It's just really muggy today. Bet it's gonna rain soon." "Yeah, they said there'd be heavy rain today," Ivan said, stepping on the gas. "By the way, you still haven't told me.
What happened with the elevator during the blackout?" "It was fine," Whitney replied, turning to look out the window. "Calvin was in there with me. He called the engineering team, and they got it sorted out pretty quickly." 'Calvin again? Man, how does he always manage to pop up everywhere?' Ivan wondered. 'Didn't I warn him? Why's he still pestering Whitney?' Ivan thought, annoyance flaring up. Just imagining Whitney and Calvin alone in that elevator was enough to make Ivan feel seriously uneasy. "Calvin was in there too? Just the two of you?" Ivan asked.
Whitney paused for a second, and then replied, "Yeah, just the two of us." She figured it was better not to mention that Klein was there too. No need to fuel Ivan's overactive imagination. And so, the misunderstanding between them just kept getting deeper and messier. They rode in silence until the car pulled into the law firm's underground garage. Ivan couldn't help asking again, "Whitney, why don't you meet that prosecutor one of these days?" Whitney just stared at him, at a loss for words. She rubbed her temples and said, "Boss, seriously, no thanks." Ivan was freaking out inside.

'Damn, did Whitney really get caught up in Calvin's nonsense?' he thought, his nerves on edge. ***** It had only been a day since Oliver broke up, and all his friends knew about it. "Klein, you coming to Royal Crest tonight?" Klein really didn't want to go. He was a married man now. Why bother hanging out with those single men? Just as he was about to turn them down, Oliver chimed in, "Look, you can't bail! Klein, you're the head of our group. If you don't show up, it's like you're ditching me!" Klein curled his lips. 'Is he for real? Does it have to be such a big deal?' he thought.
"Alright,. I'll swing by later," Klein said. "Good!" Oliver reminded him, "And don't even think about bringing your girlfriend. Tonight's just for the guys!" Klein smirked and said, "Sure." But not even a second later, he was already speed-dialing that "heartless bunny" of his. Whitney saw Klein's name pop up on her screen and slipped into the bathroom to answer. "Hey?" she said. "You at the law firm yet?" Klein asked, his tone laid-back. "Yeah, just got here," Whitney replied. "You heading out at your usual time tonight?" Klein asked, out of the blue.
Whitney hesitated for a moment and said, "Yeah, just as usual." "Alright, I'll pick you up after work. We're heading to a get-together with some friends," Klein said. Whitney hesitated, not really feeling it. "Klein, I don't really know your friends that well..." she said. "You've met them, Oliver and the others. Ever since we got married, they've been bugging me to bring you along," Klein replied. At that point, Whitney knew she couldn't really refuse. "Alright, see you tonight," she said.
***** Carter, rocking a bandage on his face, got dragged out to Royal Crest Club by a bunch of his party-loving rich friends. "Carter, you're a married man now! Where's your wife? Didn't you bring her along?" one of them teased. Back in the day, they had always called Emily their princess. But ever since her wedding to Carter, they'd started treating her with a lot more respect. Carter shook his head and said,"She's here. She just went to the bathroom to touch up her makeup." "Come on, Emily is a natural beauty. She looks stunning even without makeup.
Why bother putting any on?" one of them teased. Back then, whenever someone praised Emily, Carter would feel secretly proud. But now, he wasn't even sure what he felt for her anymore. After they got home that night, their very first night as husband and wife, they ended up sleeping in separate rooms. "Alright, cut it out," Carter said. Just then, Emily walked into the private room, arm in arm with Tina. They greeted, "Hey, Emily!" Then they just nodded at Tina, barely saying hi. The Moore family just didn't have the pull to get them to pay attention.
Even if Samuel himself walked in, they'd just nod. His daughter didn't stand a chance. Tina's gaze wavered for a moment, but she made sure no one could see what she was really feeling. "Well, Carter, when are you taking Emily on that honeymoon?" one of them joked. As soon as someone brought it up, the rest of the crew jumped in, making a racket. "For real, Carter, when's the honeymoon? Do you need us to help you plan it?" another man called out. It had been a few days since the wedding, but Emily and Carter still hadn't had any alone time together. He hadn't even laid a finger on her yet...
Emily thought, 'If I could lose my virginity to Carter during a dreamy honeymoon, I'd be over the moon. But in the very next moment, Emily's heart sank. "Nah, work's been nuts lately, and Emily's swamped too. We'll plan the honeymoon some other time," Carter shrugged it off. Tina had been trying to help her bestie out, but she had never expected Carter to just leave Emily hanging like that. Emily turned her head slightly, and anyone who really knew her could see her face was practically steaming with anger. Tina snorted.
'Looks like she's not all that important to Carter after all,' she thought. Tina was stupid enough to make things even worse. She kept fanning the flames and said, "Carter, a honeymoon is a big deal! How can you just brush it off like that?" "Enough, Tina!" Emily finally cut her off, completely mortified. She forced a smile and said, "Tina, can you come with me to the bathroom?" Without waiting for a reply, she grabbed her best friend and marched her straight out of the private room. For a moment, the young men in the private room exchanged awkward glances.
"Oh, Carter, do you think Emily's mad?" one of them asked, looking a bit uneasy. Carter just shrugged. 'Let her be mad, whatever,' he thought. Emily got upset so often that Carter was honestly numb to it by now. As soon as they stepped out of the private room, Emily shook off Tina's hand and said,"Tina, were you mocking me just now?" Tina freaked out and hurriedly denied it, "Emily, why would you even think that? I'd never make fun of you! You're my best friend!" Emily scoffed. 'She'd better act a little more convincing,' she thought.
If it weren't for roping Tina in to deal with Whitney, Emily wouldn't have bothered being friends with a stupid girl like Tina. "Don't mention the honeymoon again when we go back in, okay? Carter talked to me about it privately. We'll go when we actually have the time," Emily said, trying to keep her cool. "Besides, Carter loves me anyway. So honestly, every day with him is like honeymoon," she added, her voice a little defiant. Tina nearly snorted. 'She's really got a tough mouth, huh,' she thought. But she kept her tone sweet and apologetic. "Okay, my bad!
I'm sorry, Emily, don't be mad at me, alright?" As they were chatting in the hallway, they suddenly spotted someone in a blue dress. "Hey Emily, look who's that over there?" Tina said. Emily looked up without thinking. As soon as she saw who it was, her face turned cold.
