Chapter 119 At dinner, everyone except Klein and Whitney was feeling pretty miserable in their own way. James wanted to look out for his youngest son, but he didn't want to break Carter's heart either. But honestly, people always end up favoring someone. It was tough for anyone to treat everyone exactly the same. After dinner, Klein and Whitney left as usual to head back to the villa. Meanwhile, James called Carter into his study, his tone full of heartfelt concern. "Carter, do you not want to be with Emily anymore?" James asked. He sighed.
"When your grandma was still around, she set up your engagement to Whitney from the Moore family. You agreed reluctantly. "But you never treated her right. You kept dragging things out and wouldn't even get the marriage certificate, leaving her hanging." "I know you have feelings for Emily. But have you ever thought about why I didn't want you two together?" "Back then, Emily wasn't even an adult yet. If you'd rushed into things with her and people found out, how do you think that would make the Harris family look?
"So you insisted on being with Emily, which led Whitney to call off the engagement. Now Whitney's out of the picture, and you got what you wanted with Emily, but you're still not satisfied?" "Really think about it. Are you bothered because Whitney ended up with Klein, or is it just that Whitney got married at all?" James pressed. "But either way, she's your aunt now. Even if you regret it, there's no undo button in real life.
"I'm not trying to put you down, but Klein isn't the type to show mercy to anyone who covets his wife, even though you are his nephew." James had said all he needed to say. There was no point in saying anything more. Carter walked out of his grandfather's study in silence. Seeing how down he looked, George was about to say something, but in the end, he just swallowed his words and let it go. Sabrina tugged Emily into her room. "Emily, that's just how Carter is. Don't let it get to you, and seriously, don't dwell on it.
Honestly, what matters most now is that you two have a kid, you get me?" Sabrina said. Emily scoffed inwardly. 'A kid? Seriously?' With the way Carter treats me now, does anyone really think having a baby would make him care about me?' Emily thought, her heart growing colder. Emily couldn't agree less. But just like Sabrina said, she did need a child. It was just that the child was for securing her spot in the Harris family, not for winning Carter's heart. After last night, Emily finally saw things clearly. She knew now that men's love just couldn't be trusted. "Mom, I know, I really do.
Carter had something with Whitney before, I get it. Carter's feeling down, and I'll try to cheer him up. As for the baby..." Emily lowered her head, acting all bashful. "I told Carter we'd do our best to have a baby." Sabrina felt truly gratified by Emily's response. For the first time, she genuinely believed Carter had made the right choice marrying Emily. After all, Emily was the daughter she'd raised herself, gentle, well-behaved, and always listened to her, even more than her own son. If it had been someone else, they probably would've gotten all moody or thrown a tantrum at her words.

"Good girl, I always knew our Milly was the most thoughtful. Want to go to an auction soon? I'll take you to look at some jewelry!" Sabrina said warmly. "Sure! Thanks, Mom! You always dote on me the most!" Emily replied, her voice full of joy. ***** Once the get-together was over, Whitney got a call from Joanne while she was heading back. "Hey, Whit, are you free? I'm still at the lounge we went to last time. I'm not in a great mood. Could you come hang out with me?" Joanne said, sounding a little down. Whitney glanced at the time. It was just 8:30.
She shot Klein a look, cupped the phone, and said, "Alright, give me about half an hour, okay? Don't go overboard with the drinks, just wait for me!" After hanging up, she shot Klein an awkward grin. "Klein, I need to handle something. Can you have Marco drop me off at the next intersection?" "Where are you headed?" Klein raised an eyebrow, his tone playful. "Trying to ditch me and sneak off for some fun without me?" "I'm not sneaking around, I told you already," Whitney muttered. Klein chuckled, clearly amused. "Nice update.
Make sure to keep me posted next time, too!" "You still haven't told me where you're headed," Klein said, raising an eyebrow with a playful look. "The lounge. Joanne's feeling a bit down, so I'm going to keep her company," Whitney replied. 'She calls her so sweetly, huh? Never once heard her call me anything like that, Klein thought, unable to hide a smirk. Klein smirked, half amused, half serious. "Oh, really? Two girls hanging out at a bar this late. That sounds kinda risky." Then he switched gears, grinning, "But if you call me honey.
Maybe I'll wait outside for you guys to finish chatting." Whitney grimaced. "Is that really necessary?" When she saw his face darken, she surrendered right away. "Okay, okay, 'honey, honey'. Happy now?" 'Calling him that doesn't cost me anything,' Whitney thought. Klein smirked, clearly satisfied. "Alright, Marco, take us to the lounge." They pulled up at the lounge, and as Whitney got out, she called back, "No need to wait for me, you guys head home. I'll just grab a cab later!" Worried about Joanne's safety, Whitney dashed inside before Klein could even reply. Klein let out a quiet chuckle.
Marco glanced at him in the rearview mirror. "Boss, are we waiting here?" "Yeah, just wait," Klein replied. Klein opened up his laptop and started checking his emails. ***** Whitney hurried inside and spotted Joanne at the bar, chatting away with the bartender like they were old friends. "Joanne!" Whitney called out, giving her a friendly tap on the shoulder. "Whit! You finally made it!" Joanne snapped her fingers at the bartender. "Get my friend a Mint Julep." "Got it!" the bartender replied. Whitney quickly stopped her. "No way, I'm not drinking tonight.
Just some water for me, thanks." Whitney was a total lightweight. Even the weakest drink would have her flat out after just one glass. Joanne looked bummed, but didn't make a fuss. "Alright, just get her some juice, straight-up juice, nothing else." "Joanne, did something happen today?" Whitney asked, worried. "Not really. I'm just kinda down," Joanne sighed. "Honestly, Whit, my family totally hated the idea of me joining the entertainment world, but I just couldn't help myself. "I live for the spotlight, you know? That rush when all eyes are on me.
So I just went for it, didn't even care if I'd ever get famous. After I met him, things got a little better for me, but honestly, it's still nothing special. "You know what he's like, crazy possessive. He wouldn't let me take any romantic roles. I mean, who even cheats the camera for kissing scenes these days? Everyone just goes for the real thing. But I still agreed, just for him. "And then he goes behind my back, sneaking off to set up blind dates with other girls..." Joanne said. Whitney put her arm around Joanne. "Hey, forget about him. That's all history now.
Things are only going to get better for you, and you'll find a guy who's a thousand. No, ten thousand times better than that jerk!" "No, I won't," Joanne sighed, eyes downcast. "Honestly, it's not even about him today. It's like I'm cursed lately, just when I thought I'd scored an A-list variety show, it got yanked out from under me." "If it got canceled before I signed anything, I'd just shrug it off." "But I already signed the contract, and they still dropped me. If I kick up a fuss, I'll probably just get blacklisted in this business." "It's so freaking hard.
Maybe I'm just not cut out for showbiz. I kinda wanna go home," Joanne admitted, her voice full of doubt. Whitney understood all too well that a contract couldn't guarantee anything. If she were to fight for her rights, she could offend the sponsors and make her career even harder. Surviving in showbiz was ten thousand times tougher for artists who had no background. "What show was it? Mind sharing?" Whitney asked. "It's some job-hunting reality show," Joanne replied. As soon as Joanne said that, Whitney understood. It was the one Ivan had mentioned to her before.
Whitney texted Ivan right away, asking if he knew who was on the guest list for the show. Ivan sent over the names. Emily was on the list. Whitney knew right away who snatched Joanne's opportunity. 55 vouchers Dex Morgan Dex Morgan works to elevate each story with clean writing, emotional balance, and thoughtful flow for readers.
