Chapter 106 As soon as Klein and the others left, Oliver finally got some quiet. He lowered his gaze, swirling his glass. "You guys go ahead. I'll stay a bit longer." he said. Felix clicked his tongue and said, "What, you planning to wallow in sadness here by yourself?" "If you like her, go get her back," he added. Joanne wasn't like those shallow women, and she definitely wasn't some pampered woman for him to keep. He'd tried to explain himself, but she wouldn't listen to a single word. "Hey, isn't Whitney close with Joanne? Why didn't you ask her to put in a good word for you?" Felix asked.

Oliver said with a wry smile, "Didn't you see the way she looked at me? Like I was nothing but trouble." 'Put in a good word for me? I'd be lucky if she didn't rat me out to Joanne,' Oliver thought. Felix shrugged and said, "Alright, suit yourself." Since they got bodyguards with them, safety was not really a concern. As he was leaving, Felix clapped Oliver on the shoulder and said,"You know how it is. We're supposed to marry for status anyway. If you're not planning to put a ring on her, calling it quits now is better for both of you." "Let's go!" Felix called out.

After Dustin and Felix left, Oliver stared at his glass, lost in thought. 'Is it really all about matching backgrounds?' Oliver wondered. Among them, Klein was the only one who could marry whoever he wanted, no matter where she came from. ***** Whitney thought they were heading back to the villa, but Marco drove them straight to Moore Manor instead. "Klein, are we staying at Moore Manor tonight?" Whitney asked. Klein shook his head and said,"No, but we've got some interest to collect." Whitney looked confused. "Silly," Klein said, pinching her earlobe affectionately.

"You didn't really think those two buckets of water were the end of it, did you?" He didn't think it was over yet, but someone else clearly did. Carter drove back to Moore Manor, feeling restless. He'd meant to head for the wedding suite, but sharing at bed with Emily was the last thing he wanted tonight. At least at Moore Manor, he could just sleep in the study and no one would question it. Honestly, Carter just didn't want to be alone with Emily at the villa. "Milly, we're married now. From now on, you should really keep your distance from her," Carter said, his tone a little cold.

It was obvious who he meant. "Carter, do you really believe what she said? Why would I splash her out of nowhere?" Ernily protested. "Besides, if I knew she was with Uncle Klein, why would I go looking for trouble? That'd embarrass Uncle Klein," she added. Emily sounded so genuine that Carter frowned. 'Did I really misjudge her?' he wondered. "Okay, as long as that's not what happened. I didn't believe her. I was just reminding you," Carter replied. "Just keep your distance from her from now on," he added.

If Klein had been around, he'd probably joke, 'Looks like I finally knocked some sense into you!' Sabrina came downstairs for some water. She glanced at the clock, and frowned. "Why are you showing up at Moore Manor out of the blue?" "Had a meeting nearby, so I just swung by," Carter said. Sabrina sniffed at Carter and asked, "Have you been drinking?" "Carter, you haven't even taken off that bandage yet. Should you really be drinking right now?" she scolded.

Then Sabrina shot Emily a reproachful look and said, "Emily, as Carter's wife, it's your responsibility to remind him about things like this." "And stop getting so caught up in the entertainment business. Carter's got a lot on his plate with work and social events. You should try to be more understanding," Sabrina added. It turned out that for Emily, when her adoptive mother became her mother-in-law, the drama between a mother and her daughter-in-law never really ended.

Emily swallowed her frustration and said, "Alright, Mom, I know." She trudged upstairs to the bedroom to wash up, feeling completely defeated. She'd already had the worst luck today. After she got chewed out twice, her spirits hit rock bottom. When she came out of the bathroom, Carter was gone. She felt her heart sink. The study door was pushed open quietly. Carter clicked his mouse, sounding impatient, "Why aren't you asleep yet?" "Carter, aren't you coming to bed?" Emily asked softly, a hint of longing in her voice.

Carter didn't even look up from his laptop and said, "I've got some work to do. You go ahead and sleep. It's late. I'll just sleep in the guest room so I won't disturb you." It had been days, and they still hadn't consummated their marriage. Just earlier, Sabrina had dropped a hint about a baby. 'How are we supposed to have a baby if we don't even sleep in the same bed?' Emily thought, feeling frustrated.

Emily, dressed in a silk nightgown, hugged him from behind and said, "Carter, can't you stop staring at that laptop for once?" The strap of her silk nightgown slipped off her shoulder, exposing her fair skin. She cooed softly, her voice laced with longing, "Can you just look at me, Carter?" His breathing quickened, eyes narrowing with tension. But after only a few seconds, he roughly pushed her away, sending her sprawling to the floor. Her doe eyes brimmed with tears. "Carter, you..." she cried. Outside, there was suddenly the sound of a car engine. Someone was back.

Carter didn't even look at her. He walked over to the window, his eyes narrowing in surprise. 'They're coming back to Moore Manor too?' Carter thought, his heart skipping a beat. Klein had sent his bodyguard to follow Carter and Emily. Once he knew they'd returned to Moore Manor, he decided to come over. Klein glanced at a maid and asked,"Where's Carter?" The maid looked a little lost, clearly not expecting Klein to show up. Klein hardly ever spent the night at Moore Manor. "Mr. Harris, Carter's in the study," the maid answered. "Okay," Klein nodded.

Klein took Whitney's hand and went straight up to the second floor. Just then, Carter and Emily walked out of the study. Their eyes locked, and Klein's face instantly turned cold. "Carter, didn't I warn you last time to quit messing with me?" Klein said, his voice cold and sharp. Carter clenched his fists, casting a quick look at Whitney before pursing his lips. "Uncle Klein, you guys totally blamed Emily for nothing today," he said. "She doesn't even have the strength to lift a bucket that big, let alone dump water on someone," he argued.

Klein snorted and said, "She couldn't lift a bucket?" He pulled out his phone and played the recorded video right in front of Carter. Emily, flustered, tried to grab the phone and exclaimed, "Uncle Klein, that video's been doctored!" "I didn't splash Whitney!" she cried. The commotion drew George and Sabrina over. George frowned and said, "Klein, Carter, what are you two doing?" Klein played the video again, right in front of them. "George, what do you have to say about this?" he said. Every frame of the video laid bare Emily's scheming. George and Sabrina looked utterly embarrassed.

"Emily, can you explain what's really going on here?" George asked, his voice tight with discomfort. "Dad, Mom, I swear I didn't do it! That video must've been edited!" Emily insisted. "Oh, is that so?" Klein replied, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Are you saying I'd go out of my way to edit a video just to frame you?" "My time's way too precious to waste on someone who isn't worth it," he added coldly. Seeing Klein stand his ground, George quickly put on a smile and turned to Whitney. "Whitney, Emily just had a moment of confusion. We're family.

How about she apologizes and we call it even?" he said. Whitney folded her arms and said, "Sorry, but I don't think she was confused. She was out to stir up trouble on purpose." Emily's eyes were red and brimming with tears. "Whitney, how could you think that of me? What do you want from me? Would you only be happy if I just disappeared?" she cried. "No need to be so dramatic," Whitney replied, acting all magnanimous. "If you really want to learn your lesson, record an apology video and post it on X for everyone to see.

And it has to stay up, no deleting." "What?" Emily shot her a bitter look. "Whitney, I'm a public figure now. I don't have a huge following, but I do have fans." "Do you really have to make things so difficult for me?" Emily choked out, her voice shaking with anger. Klein didn't have much patience left. "Two choices. One, post an apology video on all platforms. I'll give you the script. Two, pack your bags and leave the Harris family for good. Take your pick." "I..." Emily stammered, at a loss for words. George looked at his disappointing daughter, feeling utterly frustrated.

'Of all people, she just had to cross him!' George thought, helpless. Emily glanced at Carter, desperate for help, but he was totally checked out, not even looking her way. She clenched her teeth, rage boiling inside her. "Fine! I'll post it!" she said. "I want it up by ten tomorrow morning," Klein said coldly. "Or face the consequences," he added, leaving no room for argument. 田 AD Comment Send gift No Ads 14:34 Wed, Dec 24 Dex Morgan Dex Morgan works to elevate each story with clean writing, emotional balance, and thoughtful flow for readers.
