Chapter 123 Whitney finished reviewing all the materials and was just waiting for the trainees to show up. She waited at the reception area and led all ten trainees into the big conference room. After the four mentors came in, she thoughtfully closed the door behind them and headed back to her desk to get on with her own work. Honestly, Whitney was just there as background support. Once today's interviews were over, they'd probably announce the first test, and after that, the trainees would finally find out which mentor they'd be assigned to.

She sorted out the legal case analysis, made sure all the documents were good to go, and then moved on to other things. While Whitney was busy with work, Klein looked completely relaxed. Klein: [Wanna grab dinner tonight?] Whitney glanced at the clock. It was barely 10 AM, a bit early for dinner. Whitney: [Can't tonight. I have to work overtime.] Klein: [Did Calvin and the others make you stay late? Didn't they set a rule that M&A cases can't eat into your off-hours?] Whitney was speechless. 'Does he seriously think I've only got one case on my plate?' she thought.

She got five cases waiting to go to trial. Whitney: [No, it's not that. The firm's recording a livestream today, so I'll probably have to work overtime.] Klein had never heard her mention this before, so his curiosity was instantly piqued. Klein: [What show is it? Are you gonna be on camera?] Whitney: [It's called 'The Heartbeat Offer: Lawyers! Our firm got selected. I'll just pop up on camera here and there, mostly helping prep stuff. The main focus is on my mentor, Ivan, and the trainees.] Klein: [Oh, okay.] He immediately pulled up the livestream on his browser and clicked in.

The camera was focused on a row of fresh-faced trainees. 'Why can't they give Whitney more screen time?' Klein wondered to himself. 'That way I could have her on in the background while I work,' he thought. Klein: [Text me when you're off work. I'll come pick you up.] 55 Vouchers Whitney: [Okay.] Whitney only realized after she and Klein got their marriage license that, for all his cool and distant vibe, the guy was actually super clingy. By the time the interviews were done, it was almost eleven, and Whitney headed in to deliver the first test assignment.

On camera, Whitney was completely absorbed in adjusting the projector. Klein couldn't help but smile when he saw her. 'She looks even better on screen, he thought. Suddenly, the chat lit up with comments. "Whoa, isn't that my long-lost wife? She's gorgeous!" Klein's face instantly turned stormy. 'What do you mean, "their wife"? She's my wife!' Klein fumed inwardly. The whole reason for the livestream was to hype up the show and, honestly, to see if some silly tycoon would start making it rain with gifts.

[User 87309921 just sent 99 Star Showers in the livestream!] One of the staff members immediately nudged the director. "Director Anderson, check it out! Looks like we really got ourselves a silly tycoon in the chat!" Tim Anderson leaned in for a closer look. "Star Showers? Those aren't worth much." But before he could finish, the user who'd just been at level 1 jumped straight to level 46.

[User 87309921 just sent 99+ Carnivals to the livestream.] [User 87309921 just sent 99+ Diamond Carnivals to the livestream.] [User 87309921 just sent 99+ Pink Limited Carnivals in the livestream.] Tim swallowed hard. "Whoa, we really got ourselves a silly tycoon!" The chat went wild. No one even heard what the assignment was. Everyone was just getting bombarded by all those gifts. [Is this some celebrity's mega fan? They're seriously loaded! Just tossing cash like it's nothing.] [No clue. That account jumped from level 1 to 46 in seconds!

That's wild!] [Now I get why they switched to livestreaming. It's all about cashing in!] Whitney had no idea what was happening. She focused on setting up the projector, then slipped out of frame and tucked herself away in the corner. Meanwhile, Tim was glued to the livestream, eyes practically glowing with excitement. Chapter 123 "Huh, why'd the tycoon stop tipping?" he muttered. The screen went quiet again. Whitney came out to tidy up the gear and ended up back on camera. Carnivals started raining down in the chat again! 255 vouchers [Damn! I think I know who's dropping all these gifts!

Must be a family member watching from the guest room.] [Wait, isn't she that rich guy's fiancée? So lucky! Her fiancé's loaded, and she's pretty and sweet too.] Suddenly, the chat was flooded with wishes for everlasting love. Klein arched his brow. 'Wait, how did the chat figure out I'm with Whitney?' he wondered. 'Damn, these people are sharp,' he thought. 'Guess I'll just soak up all these good vibes,' he mused. As soon as Whitney stepped out of frame, Klein stopped sending gifts. The trainees all looked confident, ready to show what they've got.

Whitney led them to their workstations and let them choose wherever they wanted to sit. She quickly pointed out where the printer and break room were, then left them to settle in. The deadline for the first group assignment was 7 PM. Since it was their first time, they were given plenty of time to get it done. By 5 PM, the first trainee had already handed in their assignment. By 6 PM, the majority had already handed in their work. By 6:50, only one trainee was still working at his station. Whitney strolled over and gave a gentle heads-up, "Just ten minutes left.

Make sure to watch the clock." "Alright, thanks," replied a soft-spoken guy dressed simply, giving her a nod. The trainees who'd handed in their work early had already gone home. The results wouldn't be announced until the next morning. Whitney checked the time, thinking she should be able to clock out right at 7. Ivan stepped out of his office and closed the door behind him. The other four mentors did the same. No one wanted to stick around any longer than they had to. But that guy was still sitting at his computer, looking totally stressed out and at a loss.

Emily was practically falling asleep in the observation room, thinking, 'Man, this guy's really dragging things out and making us all stay late.' "Heh, Mr. Baker. Haven't you finished? Time is up." On camera, Justin's face flushed bright red. "Mr. Walton, I just sent my assignment to your email." Ivan, who was always a stickler for time, glanced at his watch. "It's already three minutes past seven. I can look over your work, but it won't count for this round." Justin bit his lip and pleaded, "Ivan, I'm so sorry.

My internet suddenly cut out, and I really thought I'd make the 7 o'clock deadline! Is there any way you could give me another shot?" But Ivan wasn't about to budge. Justin was late, no matter the reason. "Sorry," he replied. Emily jumped in with a teasing tone, "Aw, that's rough. Mr. Walton really doesn't mess around, huh? It was only three minutes. Couldn't you let it slide? He did have a legit excuse." Yang just smiled and added, "Not to defend Mr. Walton or anything, but in law, timing is everything.

Even three minutes can make or break a case." Emily just gave a noncommittal smile and didn't push it any further. The first day of recording was finally over. Whitney was ready to clock out. She ended up sharing the elevator with Justin. Whitney offered him an encouraging smile. "Keep your chin up. Don't let it get to you. The first round doesn't define you." Out of all ten trainees, Justin was the only one who came from an ordinary background. He didn't have any powerful connections, and while his education was solid, it wasn't anything out of the ordinary.

On paper, he didn't seem quite as gifted as some of the others. But Whitney truly believed that hard work could bridge the gap. Whitney gave him a friendly smile as they said goodbye, then headed straight for her familiar luxury car. Justin watched as Whitney got into that low-key, expensive ride, and couldn't help but smile wryly to himself. 'Guess I really am the only ordinary one here,' he thought.
