Chapter 207 The Confrontation Chapter 207 The Confrontation "Whit, have you had your first prenatal check-up yet? How did it go?" Ethan asked. Whitney chuckled softly and said, "Not yet. I should probably get it done soon." "Ethan, how long are you planning to stay this time?" Ethan chuckled softly. "Not long. I'll be heading back soon." They chatted a little more, but honestly, Whitney wasn't all that close with Ethan. Since Ethan's family lived abroad, she hadn't kept in touch with them nearly as much as she did with her family and friends back here. She didn't ask any more questions.
She figured Ethan had his own secrets. Then she went back to her office to take a nap. Ethan stared at the business card in his hand, and couldn't help but find it amusing. Ethan thought to himself, 'Guess it was bound to happen sooner or later.' 'That wedding gift I gave her last time must've caused her some trouble,' Ethan mused. Dustin's assistant was acquainted with Whitney. She was worried Whitney might figure out who she really was, so she'd quickly left. She was just here to help her boss arrange a meeting. But when she left, Ethan still hadn't said whether he'd actually show up.
That evening, Dustin was waiting at the restaurant. He checked the time, and Ethan walked in exactly on time. Ethan smiled casually and said, "I'm not late, am I?" Dustin replied with a cold tone, "No, I'm just early." "Well. Mr. Reed, what exactly do you want to talk about?" Ethan said, keeping his tone calm. Dustin said coldly, "I want you to stay away from my wife." Ethan was a bit surprised by how straightforward Dustin was. Ethan chuckled lightly, "Seems like you're misunderstanding something, Mr. Reed." "I'm not mistaken.
When my wife was giving birth, I don't know whether you went to the hospital on purpose or not, but I want you to just stay away from her from now on," Dustin said coldly. Ethan's expression turned cold. "And what gives you the right to tell me what to do?" "Because I'm her husband, and I'm the father of our daughter. You? You're just the guy she had a hopeless crush on, crush that died before it even began," Dustin shot back. Ethan narrowed his eyes, caught off guard. 'This man knows way more than I thought, Ethan thought in surprise. "I didn't show up on purpose.
A friend of mine was in the hospital, and I was just in the area," Ethan replied calmly. "Oh really? What are the odds? Let me guess, your friend is some elementary school classmate you haven't seen in over ten years, and she just happens to be pregnant, so you flew halfway across the world just to drop by?" Dustin retorted, his tone dripping with sarcasm. Dustin let out a cold laugh and continued, "Mr. Sherman, you can keep lying to yourself, but don't bother trying that excuse on me.
Come on, that's a pretty lame excuse." Ethan had totally forgotten that Dustin was the head honcho at that hospital, so of course he knew everything going on there. "Alright, I admit it. I did want to see her. But I never meant for her to actually see me," Ethan said, his tone calm but honest. 'Sometimes, I can't even explain myself, Ethan mused. 'I just wanted to see her from a distance.' That was all. 'But if I ever saw Dustin hurting her, I probably wouldn't be able to just stay out of it,' Ethan thought, a cold edge in his mind.

Dustin gave Ethan a cold look, thinking, 'Ha, his eating at knew fie'd slip up sooner or later.' Successfully unlocked! 'And he still has the nerve to say he's not here trying to sing woon us!' Dustin thought with a sneer. "Lena doesn't want to see you. You turned her down before, so why are you suddenly acting all lovesick now?" Dustin 1/3 Chapter 207 The Confrontation sneered. Ethan smirked. "Really? Did she actually say that to you?" he shot back, unfazed.
Dustin clenched his fists and said, "Trust me, she doesn't want to see you." He said it again, not just to warn Ethan, but almost like he was trying to convince himself too. Ethan just smiled. "Relax, I won't go see her. No need to act so paranoid, Mr. Reed. Or is it that after all this time, you still haven't managed to win Lena's heart?" Ethan's words hit Dustin right where it hurt, cold and precise. It was the one thing that had always gnawed at him. And now, Ethan just twisted the knife a little deeper.
"She will love me," Dustin said, his voice low but full of stubborn conviction, almost like he was making a promise to himself. He didn't wait for a reply, and just spun on his heel and strode out, the tension still hanging in the air. As he sat in the car, watching the streets slip by, a memory suddenly flashed through his mind, Lena, curled up and sobbing her heart out, looking so small and broken. She hiccupped, her voice trembling, "Dustin, I just got my heart broken." "He doesn't like me. What's wrong with me?
Why doesn't he like me?" she choked out, her words barely audible through her tears. 'What did I say to her that day?' Dustin wondered, the memory playing over in his mind. He smiled gently and said, "Lena, you're a nice girl. There's someone out there who will love you." "If he doesn't love you, how about I do?" he added softly, his voice full of warmth. But Lena, sobbing and half-delirious, had completely forgotten about that night. Dustin had always been playing the part of Lena's sworn enemy, the one she couldn't stand.
All this happiness felt like something he'd stolen for himself, and he couldn't help but feel afraid it might all disappear. ***** When Dustin got home, Lena complained, "Dustin, your daughter just wet herself. Why are you so late?" Seeing her pout, Dustin felt his heart melt. "I'm here now." "Sorry, I had a business dinner tonight," he said. Lena leaned closer, sniffing him for any trace of perfume. "Okay, no women's perfume. But Dustin, if I ever catch you cheating, you're toast." Dustin chuckled helplessly.
"No way, I would rather die than cheat." "Dustin, what are you even talking about?" Lena snapped, hands on her hips clearly annoyed. Lena just stared at him. 'Seriously, who curses themselves like that?' "Okay, okay, I take it back! Knock on wood, alright?" Dustin said, trying to play it off. But Lena couldn't help noticing that Dustin seemed to be in a better mood tonight. 'Do men really get moody like this?' Lena wondered, a little baffled. ***** That afternoon, Sabrina called, saying she wanted to come over. Lena tried to make an excuse, but Sabrina just wouldn't take no for an answer.
So in the end, Lena had to give in. 'Why do I always end up losing these battles?' Lena thought, resigned. Lena knew Sabrina's visit was just a front. She was really here to interrogate her about the shares she'd gotten. "Aunt Sabrina, you really didn't have to bring so many gifts. You shouldn't have spent all that money," Lena said with a bright smile. Sabrina set the gifts down, gave the baby a quick, fake look, and then glanced around. "Dustin's not here?" Lena blinked innocently. "He's busy in the study. Did you want to talk to him?" "Oh, please, why would I talk to him?
I'm here to see you," Sabrina replied. Once Sabrina was sure Dustin wasn't coming out, she cut to the chase and said, "Lena, I heard your grandpa gave you 10% of the company shares last week." 2/3 Chapter 207 The Confrontation Lena slowly peeled a grape, almost leisurely, and popped it into her mouth. "Yeah, he did. Want one, Aunt Sabrina?" Sabrina forced a smile and said, "No, thanks." But she clenched her fists a little tighter. "Lena, your grandpa really does spoil you," Sabrina said, her tone a little too sweet. Lena said with a smile.
"Yeah, Grandpa said those shares were meant for my dad. But my dad passed, so they came to me. Besides, having some money of my own means my in-laws can't bully me, right, Aunt Sabrina?" People could be unpredictable, but Lena knew her grandpa had already thought everything through for her. He was making it clear to the Harris family that even after she got married, she was still the most cherished granddaughter in her own family. "Yeah, that's true. Emily never got so lucky..." Sabrina said, her voice trailing off. Lena's smile disappeared. "Aunt Sabrina, that's not right.
Our family never treated Emily unfairly. Grandpa even sent her abroad for school, but she was the one who went off the rails, cheated on my cousin right under everyone's nose. Did you forget?" "Heard her trial just finished. Guess the verdict's about to drop soon," Lena said calmly. Sabrina looked seriously ticked off. Getting roasted by a junior in the family? She was barely holding it together. "Yeah," Sabrina said, trying to steer the conversation back, "but your cousin still hasn't gotten any shares, has he?" Lena thought Sabrina was acting weird.
"Aunt Sabrina, isn't my uncle still alive and kicking?" Sabrina was at a loss for words. 'Is this little brat actually wishing my husband dead?' Sabrina thought, her face darkening. 3/3 Subscribed 3 Likes admin
