Chapter 173 Whitney had just picked up a few new dishes. After tasting them, she thought they tasted pretty good. She told the cook and the butler that they could have the whole day off tomorrow. They wouldn't have to worry about anything. The butler Martin felt relieved. 'Guess Mrs. Harris really likes Mr. Harris after all,' he mused. Back then, it was obvious Klein cared more about Whitney. But now, seeing Whitney put in so much effort, Martin couldn't help but feel happy for Klein. Martin sent a message to Klein. [Mr. Harris, what time is your flight tomorrow night?
Should I have Marco pick you up?] Klein replied. [Don't bother. My flight might be delayed tomorrow, not sure yet.] Martin paused for a moment. 'Delayed?' He carefully chose his words. [Alright, I'll let Mrs. Harris know. She's hoping to have dinner with you tomorrow night. I'll tell her not to wait for you.] [Got it. I'll be there on time.] Once Martin got a definite answer, he went to tell Whitney, feeling quite satisfied. "Mrs. Harris, I just talked to Mr. Harris. He said he should be back around dinner time tomorrow," he said.
Whitney replied, "...Okay." 'Hope Klein doesn't catch on,' she thought. After she finished up, she went back to her room and saw a few missed calls on her phone, all from an unknown number. Thinking it might be someone who needed her help, she didn't think much of it and called back. But as soon as she heard a deep male voice on the other of the phone, she instantly hung up. Carter wasn't ready to give up. He quickly said, "Whitney, wait! Don't hang up. I need to talk to you. Are you really going abroad with Uncle Klein?" Whitney froze. "Carter, where did you hear that?" she asked.
"So you're really leaving the country? You even took the exam. Doesn't that mean you're set on going? Whitney, what's so great about going abroad anyway? Weren't you always dreaming about making partner at the firm? I heard you already got promoted, so there's really no reason for you to leave," Carter said, his voice tight. Every time Carter saw Whitney with Uncle Klein, he felt so upset. But imagining a day when he wouldn't even get to see her face made him feel even worse. That kind of pain was impossible to put into words. It was cating away at him, leaving him numb.
"Whitney, don't leave. Please, I'm begging you," Carter choked out. Whitney took a deep breath. "Whether I'm leaving or not, it's none of your business. I'm your uncle's wife now, and this is the last time I'm warning you. Stop harassing me." "And instead of worrying about me, maybe you should focus on your own wife. You two are doing the long- distance thing. With all those temptations abroad, don't you know long-distance makes cheating way too easy?" she shot back. Whitney honestly had no clue what Emily was up to abroad. She didn't have the time or the interest to care.
She only said it to get under Carter's skin. Carter listened to the busy tone, knowing Whitney had blocked his number again. No matter how many numbers he tried, she'd just block him again and again. Suddenly, Carter just hated Uncle Klein's guts. 'Uncle Klein is so damn ruthless. He already kicked Emily out. Now he's trying to take Whitney away too?' Carter thought bitterly. He called his dad and asked, "Dad, when is Uncle Klein coming back from his business trip?" "I heard he should be back around six or seven tomorrow night. Why, what do you need him for?" George asked.

Carter's eyes narrowed. He was dead set on confronting Uncle Klein in person. ***** When Klein got Martin's message, it put a smile on his face. Ryan shot Klein a plaintive look. "Boss, you're just gonna leave me here?" he couldn't believe it. "Yeah, you stick around and entertain them. I've got things to do," Klein said. Ryan was a total lightweight, but Klein didn't even hesitate. He was out the door in a flash. "I'll give you a bonus point for this!" Ryan's attitude instantly changed. "Sure thing, boss, take care! I'll handle everything here.
If I end up in the ER, just call 911 for me, alright?" Klein rolled his eyes. "It's not that serious. Just tell them you're on antibiotics, doctor's orders, no drinking. Alright, I'll bump your bonus by two points this month. Don't push your luck. That's all you're getting." Ryan said with a big smile, "Got it, boss! Thanks a lot. Safe travels!" As Klein boarded the plane, he couldn't help but wonder what kind of surprise Whitney had in store for him. His birthday had already come and It wasn't their anniversary either. gone. Their 100th day together was way in the past.
And it definitely wasn't her birthday. Klein ran through every possible special day in his mind, but none of them made sense. Still, he couldn't wipe the grin off his face. This was only the second time Whitney had ever tried to surprise him, and the first was for his birthday. He'd definitely play dumb and act like he didn't suspect a thing. With his heart pounding with excitement, he stepped off the plane. Carter was already waiting at the exit, looking composed. "Uncle Klein." Klein frowned. "What are you doing here?
Are you going to see your wife?" "No," Carter met his gaze without flinching. "Uncle Klein, I came just to talk to you." Klein smirked. "What do you want? Begging me about your wife again? I told you, she's not coming back." "No," Carter cut him off. "That's not what I'm here for. Uncle Klein, I want to know, why are you going to take her abroad?" Klein narrowed his eyes, a sharp edge in his gaze. "Who are you talking about?" "Cut the act, Uncle Klein. You know exactly who I mean. She already took the language exam. How long do you think you can keep this from me?" Carter shot back.
Klein's face turned cold. 'She already took the language exam!' he was stunned. 'She took the language exam? And she didn't even tell me?' Klein thought, feeling a sudden pang in his chest. Klein's eyes were deadly sharp. "I don't owe you an explanation." "Uncle Klein, you need to tell me the truth!" Carter demanded, his voice tight with frustration. Klein's voice was cold and intimidating. "Get lost!" "Carter, don't blame me if I ship you off abroad too!" Klein snapped. *** Whitney made a table full of dishes, and all of them were Klein's favorites.
She brought out a special bottle of wine, rose petals scattered across the entryway, and set a beautiful bouquet on the table, one she'd picked out just for Klein. There was a card tucked into the bouquet. She couldn't bring herself to say some things out loud, so she'd written down everything she wanted to thank him for. She sat on the couch, eyes glued to the clock as the hands crawled forward, every second feeling like an eternity, until it finally hit seven. 'Why does time pass so slowly when you're waiting for someone?' Whitney thought.
Whitney opened the front door, hoping to see Klein, but he was nowhere in sight. A wave of disappointment washed over her. 'Still not here?' She checked his flight info. He was supposed to land at six. 'Guess he's stuck in rush hour traffic, Whitney sighed. She sat there waiting from six all the way to eight, but Klein still wasn't home. The longer she waited, the more anxious she felt. Where was he? Unable to hold back any longer, she finally called him, but no one picked up. Her heart sank. Finally, at nine, she finally heard the doorknob turn.
She was so excited that she dashed out barefoot, not even caring about her shoes. Dragging his suitcase behind him, Klein didn't say a word. He frowned deeply. Whitney could tell he was in a downright terrible mood. "Klein, what's wrong?" Whitney asked, worry flickering in her eyes as she hesitated and took a step closer. "Did something happen?" Klein glanced down and noticed her bare feet pressed against cold tiles. With a gentle motion, he lifted her up and sat her on the shoe cabinet, concern flickering in his eyes.
Under the dim entryway lights, Klein's face was cast in shifting shadows, but the cold in his eyes was obvious, making Whitney shiver involuntarily. "How long do you think you could keep this from me?" Klein asked, his voice low and dangerous. Whitney's heart clenched painfully. 'He knows!" she thought, panic rising in her chest. 田 Comment Send gift A.D No Ads 50 56 voucherk Dex Morgan Dex Morgan works to elevate each story with clean writing, emotional balance, and thoughtful flow for readers.
