Chapter 176 After Klein got back, he talked it over with George, and they decided to send Carter off to Arantica. "George, didn't you want Carter to slowly get involved with the company? The Arantican branch is in need of a GM. Why not let him toughen up there for a year?" Klein suggested. George was thrilled, his eyes lighting up. "Seriously? Klein, you're really letting Carter get into the family business?" "Yeah, but he still has to start from the outside. No special favors, even for my own nephew. Carter's got talent, but his mind's all over the place. Arantica is a tough place.
Spending a year there will be good for him," Klein replied. George nodded nonstop. "You always think things through, Klein. That brat acts up sometimes. Please don't take it to heart." A brief coldness flickered in Klein's eyes, but he brushed it off. "Don't worry. I won't take it personally." "I've already handled everything. You break the news to Carter, George. If it comes from me, he might think I'm picking on him," Klein said. Klein wasn't the type to let Carter off easy. No way in hell he'd cut Carter any slack. If Carter liked to stir the pot, he'd better be ready to pay the price.
Carter loved meddling. Fine, Klein decided he would ship Carter off to Arantica, out of sight and totally under his thumb. When Carter was going to come back? That was up to him and no one else. Besides, sending Carter away meant Whitney wouldn't have him hanging around and messing with her life. Klein wasn't bothered about burning bridges with his own nephew. He'd snuff out any chance of drama before it even got started. ***** As soon as Whitney stepped off the plane, she shot Klein a quick message. [Honey, I just landed. My roommate's from the same country. She seems really chill.
So don't worry about me.] Klein glanced down at his phone, not really wanting to reply at first. But his fingers moved on their own. He just couldn't bring himself to ignore her. [Got it.] Whitney pouted, totally not happy with Klein's cold reply. But she had way too much on her plate right now. Chapter 176 285 Vouchers She had to figure out the best way to get from her apartment to campus as well as what her professor was like, and to get the hang of all her classes. Besides, she needed to scope out the good eats nearby.
By the time she got the hang of everything, a whole week had already flown by. Meanwhile, Klein was in his office, unable to stop checking his phone every few minutes. 'Didn't she say she'd call when she missed me?' Klein thought to himself. 'It's been a week already, and not even a single call? Guess she hasn't missed me at all, he wondered. "Mr. Harris, Mrs. Harris is doing fine over there. According to her schedule, she should be off today," Ryan reminded Klein. Ryan knew what Klein was thinking. 'She's off today... Klein mused, feeling a bit disappointed.
'It's already nighttime over there, and still no call from her,' he thought, a hint of loneliness creeping in. Klein kept staring at his phone, his thumb hovering over the call button. He hesitated. After quite a while, he finally tossed his phone aside in frustration. "Call a meeting with all departments," Klein ordered. Ryan thought, 'Oh, looks like the department heads are about to get chewed out again! ***** Whitney's first week abroad was rough. She just couldn't get used to the new bed, and ended up tossing and turning every night.

With insomnia at night and classes all day, she was running on empty. She wanted to call Klein, but was afraid he'd pick up on how out of it she sounded, so she held back. After scraping by for two weeks, she finally thought about going to the hospital to get a prescription for some sedatives: But booking an appointment here was a total pain. She couldn't help but miss how much easier things were back home. 'Man, these international students are so tight-lipped,' Whitney thought. She finally had enough and found a private doctor to get herself a prescription.
As she was leaving, she suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure ahead. 'Wait a sec... Is that Emily? That silhouette looks way too familiar, Whitney thought, a little surprised. Emily had been dragging her feet for two weeks, and finally came in for a follow-up checkup. She was still holding out hope, so she found a doctor to do a prenatal DNA test. 'What if the test back home was wrong? What if this baby really is Carter's?' Emily wondered, her mind spinning with nerves. But when she saw the results, it was like the floor dropped out from under her. She felt herself hit rock bottom.
"Emily, your baby looks healthy. Can't wait to see it," the doctor said. Emily just stared blankly, not saying a word. She wasn't looking forward to it at all. She couldn't even recall whether the man she'd slept with that night was her race or a foreigner. If the father was a foreigner, the truth would be written all over the baby's face the second it was born. Whitney asked the doctor out of curiosity, but the doctor just told her the woman's last name was Lee. She didn't dwell on it. Maybe she'd just gotten it wrong and it wasn't Emily after all.
By the third week, Klein still hadn't gotten a single call from Whitney. He was so frustrated and sulky. He felt like he was about to pass out from holding it all in. He sent her a single period, and then immediately withdrew it. It was about seven in the evening over there. She was bound to see the message. But Whitney was tied up with a group project that night. By the time she finally checked her phone, it was already ten at night. When she saw the message had been withdrawn, she froze for a moment, puzzled. 'Maybe he just slipped and sent something by accident?' she thought.
She texted him back, a little curious. [Honey, did you just withdraw something? What was it?] Klein pursed his lips and replied in a cold tone. [Your husband's already asleep.] It was just a text, but Whitney could totally sense his mood. She bit back a laugh and hit the call button. The phone rang for ages before he finally picked up. 17:55 Wed, Dec 24 Chapter 176 "Hello?" Hearing Klein's deep, magnetic voice again, Whitney felt a little dazed. "Honey, I miss you. Do you miss me?" Whitney said softly. 59 55 vouchers Klein, acting all tough, replied, "Nope. You sure you miss me?
It's been three weeks and not a single call. Seriously, you call that missing me?" She could hear the grumpiness in his voice. "Sorry, I've just been super busy. Besides, with the time difference, I was worried I'd bother you," she said, sounding a bit apologetic. She whined, "But honey, you were the one who told me not to call. Are you changing your mind now?" Klein, caught off guard, just shot back, "No. All good." Whitney stifled a laugh. "Alright, I'll call you once a week, deal?" "Yeah," Klein said. 'Once a week really isn't much,' Klein thought, but he kept his mouth shut.
He couldn't exactly take it back now, not after what he'd said before she left. Whitney rambled on for ages. She did all the talking, and Klein just listened. Eventually, Whitney glanced at the clock and realized she had to hang up, even though she totally didn't want to say goodbye. After the call, she kept grinding away at her work and didn't get to bed until two in the morning. ***** Five months after Whitney went abroad, Emily had her baby. Since the baby needed to be registered back home, Klein finally agreed to let her come back to give birth.
But Carter was still stuck in Arantica and couldn't make it back in time. Sabrina and George were beaming as they gazed at their grandson in the crib. "The baby is so adorable. Look at those big eyes. He looks like a foreign doll!" Emily's pregnancy was a total rollercoaster. She was worried sick the whole time, freaking out that her baby might end up with blue eyes. Luckily, her son mostly took after her, and just had those deep-set features that made people think he was mixed.
Whenever someone said he looked like a little halfie, she'd just laugh it off and say, "That's just Carter's good looks." Sabrina and George checked out the baby, figured she was right, and let it go. Emily ended up giving birth while everyone was celebrating the New Year. She posted on X that both she and her baby were safe. She couldn't help but show off a little, hoping Whitney would see it. Whitney only had six months left, and her studies were driving her up the wall. She had called Klein every week, but now she barely managed a call once a month.
There was zero festive atmosphere on campus, so she just made herself some pasta before she buried herself in case analyses. But the next morning, she got a text from Klein. It was the first time he'd actually messaged her first in six months. [Happy New Year.] Whitney blinked, only then realizing it was New Year already. Her eyes lit up with a gentle smile. [Klein, Happy New Year!] Klein watched the snow drift past his window. Six months left. 185 days to go. He was done waiting. He needed her back, now.
