Chapter 236 Chapter 236 The incident at the party left Jason regretting not taking better care of his sister Joanne. "I'm sorry, Joanne," he said. Joanne shook her head and said, "I'm okay, Jason. Just got a little freaked out, that's all." 86 vauchers The family doctor had just treated Joanne's wounds. They were all just surface cuts, looked scary, but honestly, nothing serious. "Jason, let's not tell Mom, Dad, or Grandpa about tonight, okay? No need to make them worry," Joanne said. Jason wanted to say more, but Joanne was so insistent that he didn't argue back.

"Alright, get some rest," he said. Jason still had to take care of one of those two thugs. ***** Joanne lay in bed, the image of that dangerous glint in Oliver's eyes flashing through her mind. She took a deep breath. The last time she'd seen him like that was back during her second acting gig. She had signed with an unknown agency. The agency was small, so good gigs were pretty much out of the question for her. Back then, she'd met an industry veteran through her first project and started hustling for auditions everywhere.

When she first started dating Oliver, Joanne wasn't too happy about him always insisting on giving her rides. It made her feel like she was being taken care of, almost like some kept woman. Joanne just wanted to keep things simple between her and Oliver. Honestly, she was into him because he was handsome, and he definitely knew what he was doing in bed. She wanted nothing to do with any money stuff between them. For her second project, Joanne finally landed the role of the second female lead.

Before she even signed the contract, the producer invited her and a few other cast members out for dinner. It was Joanne's first time having dinner with a producer, and she had no clue about all the shady stuff that went on behind the scenes. She didn't bring her agent along that night. Honestly, her agent thought she was a nobody and didn't even bother helping her out. At first, everything was normal. But as the night went on, the producer started getting handsy.

Just as his sleazy hand slid onto her thigh, Joanne grabbed the wine from the table and dumped it all over his toupee, soaking it through. "Joanne!" the producer barked. "Are you out of your mind?" 17:00 Thu, Jan 1 Chapter 236 Joanne glared at him, her breath held tight. "Mr. Gibson, have some decency!" The producer Donald Gibson yanked off his toupee and slammed it onto the table. "All of you, get out!" No one spoke up for Joanne. They just slipped out of the private room, leaving her behind. Joanne clutched her phone, just about to call 911, when Donald snatched it and tossed it aside.

17 65oughs "You little bitch, acting all high and mighty! You think you can play innocent? If you won't sleep with me, you can forget about that second lead role," Donald sneered. A stinging slap landed on Joanne's cheek, but she didn't back down, her spine straight as a rod. "Donald Gibson, if you dare touch me today, I swear I'll make you regret it!" "Go ahead, try it. Scream all you want, see if anyone comes running. Afterward, I'll be the one calling 911!" Donald sneered. "Joanne, you're way too naive," he scoffed. Joanne kept backing away, and then spotted a vase within reach.

She bit her lips, didn't hesitate for a second, grabbed the vase and smashed it straight onto Donald's head. Donald reeled from the blow, blood pouring down his temple, his eyes bloodshot with rage. He lunged at Joanne with his filthy hands, trying to tear her clothes off. "You little bitch, you dare hit me? I'll strip you naked, take pictures, and blast them all over the internet! Let's see how you can ever show your face in showbiz again!" Donald spat. Just as Joanne was about to lose all hope, Oliver kicked the door open.

Just like tonight, Oliver tackled that sleazebag, pounding him so hard the guy was barely breathing, only stopping when someone finally dragged him off. From that day on, Oliver had marked Joanne as his own. She carried Oliver's mark. She belonged to him, and no one else. That was the moment Joanne had truly fallen for Oliver. Joanne pushed those memories aside and tried to drift off to sleep. When she woke up the next morning after a dreamless night, her mind finally felt at peace. It was all over now.

"Joanne, Isaac told me you didn't meet Elton yesterday, did you?" her mom asked, testing the waters, Just the thought that her blind date was actually Oliver's friend made Joanne feel seriously awkward. "Mom, I really don't think it's gonna work out with him. Can we just forget about it?" Joanne said. "Joanne, why do you think he's not a good match? You haven't even met him yet. How do you know you two aren't compatible?" her mom pressed. "Don't you remember how you used to chase after him when you were kids? Seriously, you forgot?" her mom nudged. Joanne didn't care to remember.

17:00 Thu, Jan 1 MA Chapter 236 She sighed, a little annoyed, "Mom, that was forever ago. I was maybe five at the time." "So what if you were five? That's exactly what childhood sweethearts are!" her mom insisted. Sh voucher Jason was already at the office. Otherwise Joanne would've begged him to plead her case for her. "Alright, I've sent you the address. Just go to that restaurant, okay? Don't make your grandpa worry," her mom said. Joanne was speechless. Sure enough, even she couldn't dodge her family's pressure to get married.

Even though their family had spent most of their lives abroad, it didn't make any difference. ***** Elton was just as annoyed. "Grandpa, I'm begging you. I'm really not interested in Joanne. Can you please stop pushing me?" he pleaded. Even if he was interested, he had to pretend he wasn't. Going on a blind date with Oliver's ex? Was he trying to get himself killed or something? "I don't care if you're interested or not, you're going today! If you're late again, I'll freeze all your cards tonight. Let's see how you like going hungry!" his grandpa snapped.

Reluctantly, Elton showed up at the restaurant, following his grandpa's orders. When he got there, Joanne was already waiting. "Hey, Joanne," Elton greeted, trying to sound casual. Joanne said with a faint smile, "Hi." Her tone was polite and distant. Elton cleared his throat and said, "Well, I know your whole deal, so let's just go through the motions today, alright? You get what I mean?" Joanne smiled. "Of course, Elton. Don't worry. I'll tell my family I'm not interested when I get back." Elton breathed a sigh of relief.

"Good." "Sorry you had such a rough time at our family party last night. That man who attacked you is basically half-dead now," Elton said. Joanne frowned. "Wow, he really couldn't handle a beating, could he?" Elton pursed his lips. 'Seriously, how could you call that not being able to take a hit?' Elton thought. Oliver had thrown him around like a ragdoll, and then Jason had beaten him up for good measure. Honestly, the fact that the guy was still breathing was a miracle. "Yeah." Elton gave a half-hearted laugh, clearly distracted. Oliver kept texting him.

[Where are you?] Chapter 236 [I'm hungry.] 55 vauchers Elton side-eyed his phone, and then glanced at the untouched food on the table. "Still hungry or are you full?" he asked Joanne. Joanne shook her head. "I'm full." Elton went to grab a few to-go boxes from the staff. "Hey, there's still a ton left. No sense letting it go to waste." Joanne smiled. "Wow, didn't peg you for the thrifty type." Elton said with an awkward smile, "Save when you can, and splurge when you gotta, you know?" 'Wouldn't put it past the old man to freeze my cards if he's in a bad mood.' he thought.

Both of them exchanged polite goodbyes, totally in sync that tonight they'd go home and say it just wasn't gonna work. ***** As Joanne stepped out, her phone rang. It was her brother Jason. "Hey, Jason!" Joanne answered. "So, how did it go?" Jason asked, his tone calm. "Not great. I'll tell Mom tonight that we just didn't click, and he wasn't into me either," Joanne replied. "Alright. But Mom called me this morning. If it doesn't work out, she's got another blind date ready for you tomorrow," Jason said. "Jason, can't you talk to Mom for me?" Joanne complained, exasperated.

Jason sighed, helpless. "Joanne, I'm in the same boat as you." 'Oh, I almost forgot, Jason is single too,' Joanne thought. AD Comment Send gift No Ads Thu, Jan admin
