Chapter 422 Chapter 423 The next morning, Charles showed up at Logan Group bright and early. He'd already gotten wind from some of his staff-apparently, this month's salaries had been delayed by two days. That kind of issue just didn't happen at Logan Group. 'If people are talking about it, there's definitely trouble brewing, Charles thought, his instincts kicking in. But there was no need to stress-Charles knew a quick investigation would tell him everything he needed to know. Charles had already sent Liam out early to investigate.
Charles had been waiting in his office for about half an hour. Not long after, Liam came back. As soon as Liam walked in, Charles cut straight to the chase. "Did you find out what happened?" Liam nodded. "Yeah, I got it. Turns out Mr. Yates's financial company delayed the payroll." Charles's brows knit at the answer, a hint of annoyance flickering across his face. 'Should I really push this further? But it's Naomi's brother we're talking about, and besides, the salaries did get paid in the end,' Charles thought, feeling conflicted. Charles hesitated. Seeing Charles waver, Liam jumped in. "Mr.
Logan, we're funneling a ton of cash into Mr. Yates's company every month. Every extra day that money sits in his account, that's a fat chunk of interest for him. Sure, you gave the green light, so we can let that slide. But holding up the staff's paychecks? That's just not acceptable. If something goes wrong- Liam kept laying out all the details, but Charles had already had enough. He pressed his fingers to his brow and snapped, "That's enough. Drop it." "But Mr. Logan-" Liam started to argue. "Get out!" Charles snapped.
Liam lingered for a moment in the CEO's office, letting out a long, helpless sigh. Then he pulled an envelope from his briefcase and placed it on Charles's desk. "Mr. Logan, the guard downstairs grabbed your delivery. Take a look when you have a moment." Charles didn't even bother to look up. "Got it. Just go." Liam zipped up his briefcase and walked out of the CEO's office. Charles ran a frustrated hand through his short hair, then glanced at the envelope on his desk. He hadn't ordered anything, so he was genuinely curious about what was inside.
He picked up the envelope and saw that it was a court summons. It was clear-his divorce hearing with Teresa was set for January 20th at . Charles couldn't help but think, "Teresa's willing to go to any lengths to get this divorce-even dragging me to court.' 'But what makes her think she stands a chance of winning?' Charles scoffed inwardly. With that, Charles crumpled up the summons and tossed it onto his desk. The more he thought about it, the more annoyed he got. In his eyes, Teresa was in such a rush to leave him, all because she wanted to run off with Troy.
But for some reason, Charles just didn't want to let her have her way. Just as Charles was getting more and more frustrated, his mom Roselyn called. Charles fought back his reluctance and picked up. "Mom." Roselyn immediately noticed something was off in his voice. "What's wrong? You sound upset." Charles didn't feel like explaining. "It's nothing." Seeing he wasn't in the mood to talk, Roselyn let it go and switched topics.

"So, how's the divorce with Teresa coming along?" Charles just replied, "Soon." Roselyn wasn't happy with that answer and quickly added, "By the way, your grandpa's already set you up with someone new. Come home when you get a chance and meet her." Charles didn't hesitate. "No." Seeing Charles refuse, Roselyn tried again, "She's the Collins family's daughter. Their family is just as well-off as ours, and that girl is really adorable-sweet, pretty, and knows how to talk. She-" Before Roselyn could finish, Charles cut her off.
"I'm hanging up." Without another word, Charles slammed the phone down, cutting the call short. After hanging up, Charles pressed his fingers to his brow, trying to ease the tension. 'I barely started dealing with the divorce from Teresa, and Grandpa's already busy matchmaking for me,' Charles thought, feeling his headache get worse. With all this drama weighing on him, Charles was totally out of it all day. That evening, he left the office at five and was back at Joyacre Villa before six.
But as soon as he got out of the car, a figure hurried out from the shadows by the entrance-it was Roselyn. Seeing her, Charles's frown deepened. "Mom, what are you doing here?" Roselyn's face was cold. "I need to talk to you." Charles shot back, just as sharp, "If this is about setting me up on another blind date, then save it." Roselyn forced herself to stay calm and tried to reason with him. "You can fool around with those women if you want, but you need to think carefully.
After what happened with Teresa, you can't afford to get mixed up with another woman who doesn't have any real connections. You need someone who can actually bring something to the table-a match that makes you both stronger." Charles's voice was icy. "I don't need some power couple setup." Roselyn's face went pale with anger. "Charles, are you really going to go against me on this? Are you hell-bent on marrying that Yates girl?" Charles just stayed silent, not saying a word. But sometimes, silence said more than words ever could. Roselyn was even more pissed.
"If you're really set on marrying Naomi, you'd be better off sticking with Teresa. At least she's easy to control." Charles didn't respond. He just brushed past Roselyn and walked straight into Joyacre Villa. As soon as he walked in, Naomi came out to meet him. Seeing Charles, she hurried over, taking his briefcase and helping him out of his coat. "Charles, you're back?" Naomi asked, her voice gentle and caring. Charles took the coat, but instead of putting it on himself, he draped it over Naomi's shoulders. At the same time, he flashed her a soft smile.
"Yeah, I'm back." Then, almost without thinking, he reached out and took Naomi's hand in his. Just as they were about to head into the yard, Roselyn suddenly burst out, "Charles, you actually let that woman move into Joyacre Villa?" Charles stopped in his tracks and turned to face Roselyn. "Mom, I'm going to marry her." Roselyn was on the verge of losing it. "Charles, have you lost your mind?" But Charles was firm. "My mind's made up." Roselyn shouted, "You really think Grandpa's going to be okay with this?" I Charles gave a bitter laugh. "Does it even matter if he agrees?
He was the one who pushed me to marry Teresa in the first place. And how did that work out?" Roselyn was left speechless. "Charles, you-" Charles tuned out Roselyn completely. He turned to Naomi, his voice soft but firm. "Come on, let's head home." With that, the two of them headed into Joyacre Villa, hand in hand. But Roselyn lost it and snapped, shouting, "Stop right there!" At her shout, both Charles and Naomi froze in place.
Roselyn stormed over and slapped Naomi across the face, spitting out, "You bitch!" Charles had just turned around, about to snap at Roselyn, but before he could say a word, a small figure came running out at full speed-it was Yolanda. Yolanda rushed over and kicked Roselyn hard, shouting, "You evil witch! Nasty old crone! You old monster! How dare you hit Miss Naomi?
You're the real nasty one, you ugly old witch!" Comment Send gift No Ads AD Editorial board Editorial Board: Our editorial team works behind the scenes to refine each chapter, maintain consistency, and deliver the best reading experience.
