Chapter 412 Chapter 413 At noon, Naomi showed up at the café Ethan had texted her about. As soon as she sat down, Ethan snapped at her, "I've been calling you forever! What took you so long?" Ethan sounded really anxious, and from the look on his face, you'd think something huge had just happened. Naomi frowned at his random outburst and shot back, "I had to swing by school. It's not like I'm free 24/7, you know." Ethan didn't bother arguing with her. He just cut straight to the chase. "Lend me some money." Naomi frowned.
"Why are you asking me for money out of nowhere?" Ethan ran a finance company, and all the transactions from Charles and Jason went through his company's accounts. We're talking anywhere from hundreds of millions to billions flowing in. The interest alone was more than enough to sustain his company, and he was making a killing on top of that. Naomi thought, 'Is he for real, asking me for money? He's got to be kidding.' Ethan was freaking out, pale as a sheet. He stammered, panicked, "I moved some of the money Charles wired me and lent it out to someone else.
He swore he'd pay me back in two days, but it's been a week and still nothing. Charles's company is about to run payroll, and if I can't cough up the cash, he's definitely going to tear into me." Naomi's anger flared. "Ethan, what are you even doing? That's Charles's payroll money for his employees! How could you just use it for something else?" Ethan was all over the place, clearly stressed out. He shot back, "Why are you raising your voice? You want the whole café to hear us or what? And come on, he's my best friend-how could I not help him out?" Naomi was even more pissed.
"Ethan, do you hear yourself right now? Sure, you lent him the money, but if you can't cover Charles's payroll, who's going to be held responsible for that mess?" Ethan was just as anxious, but he was out of options. He threw up his hands, sounding defeated. "The finance company's always been a shell, only surviving because Charles and Jason kept it afloat. If I really can't pay up, I'll just have to go to war with them. They can come at me however they want." Naomi's heart skipped a beat. "Ethan, we're talking about Charles here! You really think he'll just let you walk if things blow up?
If you took too much of his money, he could sue you. If you get hit with serious charges, what am I supposed to do if that happens?" "That's exactly why I asked you to come out and talk, not to yell at me. Yelling at me isn't going to solve anything, is it?" Ethan shot back. Naomi frowned, trying to keep her cool. Once she'd managed to calm down, Naomi asked, "So, how much did you actually move?" Chapter 413 Ethan gestured with two fingers. Naomi ventured, "Two million?" Ethan shook his head. Naomi's face turned grave. "You mean twenty million?" Her voice rose before she even noticed.
55 vouchers Naomi thought, "Twenty million? I can't even pull together two million, let alone twenty. There's just no way! She might look like she was living large, but honestly, it was all from Charles. Take Charles out of the picture, and what does she really have left? Sure, she'd earned some money from piano gigs and modeling, but all that little stuff together was just a drop in the bucket-barely a few hundred thousand.

Naomi thought, 'How am I supposed to fix Ethan's mess?' Just as Naomi was desperately trying to figure out how to scrape together the cash, Ethan suddenly said quietly, "Naomi." Naomi shot him a look. "What?" You could hear the anger in her voice. But then Ethan hit her with an even bigger shock. "It's not twenty million. It's... two hundred million." Her eyes nearly popped out. "What? How much did you just say?" Ethan repeated, his voice dead serious, "Two hundred million." Naomi nearly lost it. She hit Ethan on the arm. "Are you insane? Do you even realize how much money that is?
How could you just lend that kind of cash without even thinking?" Ethan winced, then grabbed her wrist, threatening, "You better come up with something, or don't think you'll get off easy either." Tears welled up in Naomi's eyes as she said helplessly, "What do you want me to do? Who on earth do you think would give me that much money?" Ethan couldn't stand seeing her cry, so he turned away and muttered, "Just go ask Charles. He's head over heels for you-just say the word and he'll hand it over. And if that's not enough, say a few sweet things to him.
in bed and he'll cave for sure." Naomi let out a bitter laugh. "Ethan, can you get real for a second? Letting you manage the company's money was already a huge exception. Now you want me to go ask him for cash? Do you honestly think he'd just hand over that kind of money?" E55 vouchers "I don't care who you ask, but you have to get me that money. What, are you just going to stand by and watch them push me to the edge?" Ethan snapped. Naomi was stunned, completely at a loss. "You..." she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper. Ethan kept pressing her.
"Naomi, we're stuck in this mess together. If you really want to marry Charles, you have to help your brother out. Otherwise, what do you think he'll think of you? Let me patch this up first- once my buddy pays me back, you can just give the money back to Charles." Naomi couldn't even argue back. Her mind went blank; she just didn't know what to say. She didn't stick around at the café. Without another word, she just got up and left. Outside, the snow was coming down hard, and the wind was like a thousand tiny blades, slicing right through her skin.
Tears streaked Naomi's face as she walked down the street, her mind blank, her steps aimless-like she was just a shell of herself. After all these years with Charles, Naomi had never once dared to ask him for anything. If he gave her something, she just accepted it. But now, Ethan was asking her to go to Charles and ask for two hundred million. How was she supposed to even bring up a number that big? There was just no way she could ask Charles for that kind of money. Charles was way too sharp-there was no way he wouldn't figure out that Ethan was the one in trouble.
That mess was hanging over Naomi all day. When she went to class that afternoon, she couldn't focus at all. Her professor noticed she was completely out of it and asked her to come by his office for a talk. Once she was in his office, the professor let her have it. "You're a doctoral student now. If you keep this up, how are you ever going to graduate?" "You've already spent twice as long as everyone else just picking a research topic.
How did you even get accepted into a PhD program?" "If you don't start focusing on your studies, just go ahead and write your withdrawal letter yourself." "Get out of here before you drive me crazy." After leaving school, Naomi went to pick up Yolanda from kindergarten. She stood at the gate, frozen in place, letting the wind and snow whip around her without even flinching. When Yolanda came out and saw Naomi's icy, blank face, she scrunched up her nose and complained, "Miss Naomi, you look really weird right now.
If the other kids see you, they'll wonder why I'm hanging out with someone who looks so upset." Naomi clenched her fists, not saying anything back. She just forced a smile that looked even worse than crying and said, "Miss Naomi will remember. Next time, I'll come pick you up with a happy face, I promise." Yolanda managed a weak smile. "Miss Naomi, you're the best." Naomi took Yolanda's hand, but inside, her resentment kept surging, threatening to spill over. On the way back, Naomi barely spoke, while Yolanda kept rambling on and on, complaining about one kid after another.
Naomi wasn't really listening, just giving perfunctory, absentminded responses. When they walked into the lobby of Joyacre Villa, Naomi was surprised to see Andrew Logan sitting there. He was lounging on the couch, scrolling through his phone. Hearing the noise at the door, he looked up, then stood up and said, "Yolanda, Naomi." Yolanda's eyes widened in surprise. "Uncle Andrew?" Andrew smiled and handed Yolanda the gifts he'd brought. "Look what I brought you-a pillow and some toys!" Yolanda's face lit up as she grabbed them.
"Thank you, Uncle Andrew!" Clutching her new toys, Yolanda scampered upstairs to play. Naomi looked at Andrew, a little puzzled. "Are you here to see Theodore?" Andrew nodded. "Yeah." Truth be told, Andrew was really hoping to see Naomi. But he kept those feelings locked up inside, not daring to let her see how much he cared. Naomi couldn't shake the anxiety over Ethan's mess; it was eating her up inside. Names flashed through her mind-Jason? Troy? Hector? Maybe one of them could help.
