Chapter 418 Chapter 419 Hector felt a chill settle in his heart, but he still forced himself to give Teresa a rough check. After he finished, he kept his head down, straightening her pant leg as he said, "The wound's almost healed. Rest up a bit more, and you'll be back on your feet in no time." Teresa leaned forward, wanting to fix her pant leg herself, but Hector held onto her ankle, refusing to let go. Only when he was done did he finally, reluctantly, let go of her. But even after letting go, Hector still didn't look up.
He picked up the umbrella from the ground, opened it, and held it up to shield Teresa from the snow. He still didn't meet her eyes as he pushed the umbrella into her hand. "It's snowing and freezing out. Don't let yourself get cold. Make sure to keep your leg warm, too. Getting frostbite will only slow down your recovery." As Teresa took the umbrella, their eyes met for just a split second. That was when she saw his eyes were red. She could tell instantly-he'd been crying. "Hector..." Teresa could only call out to him, feeling lost.
Hector pretended not to care, but inside, his heart was breaking. "Yeah, I'm here." Teresa couldn't bring herself to ask him anything, so she just said, "Let's head back." Hector quickly stood up. "I'll walk you back." Just as Hector straightened up, Troy stepped behind the wheelchair. "No need to bother, Mr. Reed. As long as I'm here, Teresa's safe-she can go anywhere she wants." With that, Troy spun the wheelchair around and started pushing Teresa away. Teresa glanced back at Hector, her eyes lingering. "Hector, thank you." Hector offered her a gentle smile, saying nothing more.
He was smiling, but a deep sorrow still lingered in his eyes. After they left, Hector just stood there, lost in a daze, unable to pull himself together for a long time. He held the umbrella, a dusting of snow had gathered on top, Just then, an enticing voice whispered in his ear, "Hector, are you really okay with this? Are you just going to let them be together?" He turned and realized-it was Sylvia. Noticing she was watching him, Hector said, "If Teresa's happy, I..." His voice trailed off, uncertainty flickering in his eyes. But before he could finish, Sylvia interrupted, her tone sharp.
"Are you really that sure about Troy? Do you honestly believe he'll take care of Teresa?" Hector fell silent. Seeing Hector stay silent, Sylvia could tell her words were getting through. She kept going, "Hector, you need to trust yourself. Stop relying on others for Teresa's happiness. No one's more reliable than you are. What if something goes wrong for Teresa..." Before Sylvia could finish, Hector interrupted her. "Don't say that. Maybe I'm just not the one for her." Sylvia refused to back down. "What do you mean you're not right for her?
Come on, you two are a total power couple-smart, good-looking, both doctors. How could you not be perfect together?" "Hector, Troy's not the right guy for Teresa. Seriously, if they end up together, do you really think she'll be happy? It's Troy, with the entire Hamilton family behind him. His background, his connections-they're on a whole other level. They..." Hector was done listening. "I'm heading back." He spun around and left. Once he got in the car, he didn't hesitate for a second-he just drove off. Sylvia furiously stomped her foot, fuming where she stood.

On the way back, Hector couldn't get Sylvia's words out of his head. His mind was all over the place-he nearly crashed, barely managing to hit the brakes before disaster struck. After forcing himself to snap out of it, Hector kept his eyes glued to the road, driving with full concentration. Once he parked, Hector dialed Mark's number. When Mark picked up, he sounded puzzled. "Didn't you go see your girl? What's up, man?" Hector didn't beat around the bush. "Mark, I've got a couple questions for you." Mark could hear the gloom in Hector's voice.
"Just drop me your location, I'll head over right now." Hector sent over the address-it was a chill bar. By the time Mark showed up, Hector had already downed several beers, drinking alone. Seeing Hector all tangled up over Teresa, Mark shook his head, sounding half exasperated. "If I were you, I'd be even more brazen than Troy." Hector picked up his glass and knocked back his drink in one go. He slammed the glass down on the table, then gave himself a hard smack on the head. "But I just can't do it. I could never be as shameless as Troy." Mark didn't hold back.
"Then you deserve to never find happiness." Hector let out a bitter laugh. "Maybe you're right. People like me are just doomed to be alone forever." Seeing Hector just giving up on himself, Mark got annoyed. "Aren't there tons of girls after you? Any of them could be better than Teresa, right? Why are you so hung up on her?" Hector kept drinking, tears rolling down his cheeks. He said bitterly, "But Mark, she's the only one who feels right to me." Mark slammed his hand down on Hector's glass, frowning. "Listen, man, you gotta make your own luck.
Troy beat you to it because he's shameless and just won't quit. You already missed your shot once-are you really gonna let it slip away again?" Hector's eyes were bloodshot as he stared at Mark. He didn't say a word, but deep down, something finally clicked for him. Hector left the rest of his drink untouched. He stood up. "Thanks, Mark. Tomorrow, I'm going to pay the Sullivan family a visit myself." With that, Hector didn't look back as he strode out of the bar. Mark thought about calling after him, but changed his mind at the last second.
Mark knew Hector all too well-he was just too straight-laced, never the kind to compete or chase after things. But maybe, not fighting for things was exactly what Teresa liked about him. Teresa woke up to the sound of voices coming from downstairs, even though the morning light had just started to creep in. She grabbed her phone and checked the time-it was already 8:30. After throwing on some clothes, she went to the bathroom to wash up. As she stepped out of her bedroom, Teresa heard Hector's voice drifting up from downstairs. "Mr. Sullivan, Mrs.
Sullivan, Teresa, I actually came here today to ask for a favor." Howard frowned at Hector. "What is it?" Hector's heart raced, but after a brief hesitation, he spoke up directly. "I came today... because I want to propose to Teresa." Howard and Linda were both caught off guard. They looked at each other, completely unsure how to respond. Seeing the shock on their faces, Hector quickly explained, "Mr. Sullivan, Mrs. Sullivan, I know this is sudden, and I'm not trying to pressure you for an answer.
I know Teresa should be the one to decide, but I'm afraid if I don't say it now, I might never get another chance." With that, Hector reached for a bag and started laying out its contents one by one on the coffee table. "Mr. Sullivan, Mrs. Sullivan, this is my passport, my bank card, my house deed, my driver's license, my criminal record check, my single and childless certificate, and a bunch of my awards and certificates. This is everything I have.
I just want you to know-if you entrust Teresa to me, I'll give her my whole heart and take care of her with everything I've got." After he finished, Hector looked at Howard and Linda, his eyes full of hope. Even though he knew this was kind of awkward, Hector still did it anyway. Mark was right. If you want something, you have to make it happen yourself. If things didn't work out with Teresa herself, he'd just have to try his luck with her parents instead.
