---- Chapter 405 "T bought this for Mom." Valeria looked at Sebastian , then asked. "Does she still have a fever?" Sebastian replied , "It went down a little. She's doing better now." She felt guilty that Martha still had to endure so much stress, even at her age. At Martha's age, it wasn't easy to change her mindset that easily. In the bedroom upstairs, Martha was lying on a recliner when Avery came in and informed her that Valeria was here. Bracing her arm to prop herself, Martha then paused before lying back down, Wouldn't meeting Valeria be awkward?

Was Martha supposed to pretend that she didn't care when they met? There was no way she wouldn't take offense at the fact that her two daughters -in-law were biologically related. Yet, there wasn't much she could do, even if she admitted that it bothered her. She couldn't really expect Alexander and Sebastian to get divorced, not with how things have progressed. On top of that, Valeria was actually Jane, Sebastian's first love, from way back then. ---- They had kept something this big from her. Avery said, "Mrs. Grant Sr., Mrs. Grant brought a box of pastries for you when she arrived. Mr.

Sebastian has already opened it and eaten several pieces. He'll finish the whole lot if you don't go down soon." | "That won't do." Martha stood up and went downstairs with Avery's support. Sure enough, when they reached the living room, half the box of pastries was already gone. Valeria stood up. However, when she wanted to call out to Martha, the word "Mom" was stuck in her throat. She was afraid that Martha wouldn't accept her. The family dinner tonight wasn't simply about having a meal. It was actually the entire Grants gathering in one place.

Sebastian greeted, "Mom." Martha answered with a hum as she looked at the half-empty pastry box. She shot Avery a look, and Avery immediately packed up the remainder. Sebastian chuckled at the sight. "Mom, didn't you say you won't have these?" "Who said so?" Martha sat on the sofa, looking around until her gaze landed on Valeria. She coughed to clear her throat. Valeria bent over to pour Martha a cup of drink, after which ---- Martha sipped it to soothe her throat. Martha had a great impression of Valeria the first time she saw her.

She had a genuine fondness for Valeria, but what happened at the engagement party was just far too shocking. She just needed a few days to calm down. Just then, they heard the sound of an engine outside. Alexander and Wendy came in, followed closely by Mallory, Zayn, and Leo. Nicholas walked out and sat on the couch. Then, he said ina deep tone, "Everyone, sit down." The moment they gathered, the air in the living room grew heavy. Martha usually disliked Nicholas' way of speaking. Every word he said sounded like a command, usually rendering the younger generation silent.

However, that night, they definitely needed a family meeting before the dinner. Wendy seemed to be a lot thinner after three days, and so was Alexander. This incident had taken a great toll on them, especially when compounded by Gabriella's scandal. Nicholas had a bit of a stubble, and his eyes were dark, but he forced himself to remain calm. Mallory asked a staff member to take Leo away to play. However, Leo glanced at Valeria before suddenly running ---- over, pulling a piece of candy from his little backpack, and shoving it into her hand.

Before he could do so, Sebastian pinched the back of his collar with one finger, saying, "Give me one too." Leo opened his backpack. "I don't have any more. This one's for Val." Sebastian plucked the candy out of Valeria's palm. "Then, I'll just take this one." Panicked, Leo pulled out a piece of chocolate from his pocket. " This one's for you." Then, he handed the unwrapped candy back to Valeria. "You eat this one. It's tasty." Valeria stroked Leo's hair before a staff member led him upstairs. Sebastian unwrapped the chocolate and slipped it into his mouth.

The bittersweet , rich dark chocolate spread over his tongue. He then turned to Mallory, who was seated to his left. "Your son's playing favorites." She replied, "You should be glad you even got something."
